1 Claim.
This invention relates to book covers, and more particularly to a combined book cover and carrying case.
A main object of the invention is to provide an improved book cover structure for a book, such as an insurance collection book, wherein the book cover structure is provided with auxiliary compartments for carrying additional items, such as application forms, receipt books, receipt forms, and the like.
A further object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved carrying case structure for a book, such as an insurance collection book. Further objects and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description and claim, and from the accompanyin'gdrawings, wherein:
Figure l is a side edge view of an improved book-carrying case and cover in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2 is a top view of the book-carrying case structure of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a perspective View of a modified book-carrying case in accordance with this invention showing an insurance collection book positioned in carrying position within the case.
Referring to the drawings, I designates the body portion of the carrying case, said body portion being of leather or other suitable flexible material. Body portion l comprises a broad strip of material folded to U shape, as shown in Figure 1, with inwardly folded leg portions 2, 2. The inwardly folded leg portions are stitched to the main body portion along the side edges of the case, and are transversely stitched adjacent the top of the respective sides of the U-shaped body member to provide pockets for receiving the respective covers of a book, such as an insurance collection book, with the back of the book supported,by the bottom loop of said U-shaped body member. The top portions of the sides of the body member are formed with openings 3, 3, which are appropriately stitched at their edge portions to form carrying handles.
A plurality of substantial outer pockets are provided on the external surfaces of the sides of the U-shaped body member, said pockets comprising sections of material l and stitched in place, section '5 being stitched to the side of body member I to form a first large pocket, and section 4 being stitched to section 5 to form a second slightly smaller pocket, as shown in Figure 2.
In the embodiment of Figures 1 and 2, cover flaps 6 and provided for the auxiliary side pockets, each cover flap being transversely stitched at its upper edge to a side portion of body I and being provided with a snap fastener element 1 for securing the flap in overlying relationship to the open ends of the side pockets.
In the embodiment of Figure 3, the side pocket sections are provided with individual snap fastener elements 8 and 9 which cooperate with mating snap fastener elements mounted on the surfaces underlying the respective snap fastener elements 8 and 9, to individually close off the respective side pockets.
The side pockets may be employed as receptacles for receipt books, receipt forms, policy change forms, and the like, whereas the inner pockets may be designed to receive the covers of a standard insurance collection book in the manner shown in Figure 3.
Instead of snap fasteners, zippers may be employed as the closure means for the side pockets. Also, a flap, such as shown in Figures 1 and 2, may be provided to overlie the pocket openings in the structure of Figure 3.
While certain specific embodiments of a bookcarrying case have been disclosed in the foregoing description, it will be understood that various modifications within the spirit of the invention may occur to those skilled in the art. Therefore, it is intended that no limitations be placed on the invention other than as defined by the scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
A portfolio for an insurance collection book comprising a strip of flexible material folded to form an elongated U-shaped body, said strip comprising flap portions folded inwardly against the inner surfaces of the sides of said body and stitched alongtheir side edges and transversely at their top portions to said sides to form receiving pockets for the covers of said collection book, said sides being provided with aligned openings adjacent their top ends to form carrying handles for the portfolio, a plurality of sections of material being secured to the external surfaces of the sides by stitching, said stitching extending along the side edges of the sections and transversely of the sections at their lower portions to form pockets, and closur flaps secured at their top edges to the external surfaces of the respective sides and overlying the open ends of the external pockets on said sides and each terminating in downwardly converging bottom edges adapted for insertion in the openings to gain access to the external pockets.
