This invention relates to bandages suitable for finger ends and other purposes and is herein disclosed in some detail as embodied in a flat bandage having a normally non-adhesive surface but adapted to have an adhesive surface exposed by According to the present invention, the foregoing and other disadvantages and objections are overcome and a bandage is provided which may be used, for many purposes but which, in addition, is well adapted to form a hermetically sealed finger cot even when applied by unskilled hands.

To attain these and other ends, the bandage is shown as provided with a body adapted to be wrapped around a finger and as also including a tab or extension which extends from the center of one side of the body so that the tab may be folded lengthwise across the top of a finger and carried back along the finger. The sides of the body may be folded across the tab as it lies on the finger, and adhesive surfaces of the sides may then bind the whole into a cot.

In order to enable this folding to produce a water-tight cot and a secure seal, the bandage is shown as notched at the point where the extension springsfrom the-body of the bandage.

Other and further objects of the invention will be obvious upon an understanding of the illustrative embodiment about to be described or will be indicated in the appended claim and various advantages not referred to herein will occur to one skilled in the art upon employment of the invention in practice.

A preferred embodiment of the invention has been chosen for purposes of illustration and description and is shown in the accompanying drawings forming a part of the specification, wherein rea m. Where only one face is coated with adhesive, an adhesive such as is used in ordinary adhesive tape bandage is satisfactory.

'In the form shown, the body I0 includes a main portion I I which may be nearly square or rectangular and an extension l2 projecting from the center of one side I3 of the portion I l, and being broad enough-to cover the breadth of a typical human finger and long enough to cover most or all of the typical first joint of a finger.

To make a convenient and attractive bandage on a finger, the side I! slopes somewhat inwardly from the base I of the extension I! to the end corner I! of that portion II On each side of the extension l2.

The bandage is normally provided with a permanent facing of gauze l6 covering the adhesive on the face of the extension I! and covering the portion ll adjacent the extension l2 and the central area of the portion l I for the width of the extension I! and almost, but not completely,

reaching the further side ll of the portion ii.

In addition, the bandage is normally shipped for use.

In the form shown, the protective layer consists of stripable gauze in the shape of a layer i8 covering the left-hand exposed area IQ of adhesive of the portion II and also covering most of the lower exposed area 20 of adhesive.

In Fig. l, the lower corner of the gauze l8is turned up, and the layer i8 is shown as extending to the end of the extension i2, thus providing the non-adhering part over the extension I! as a handle for pulling on the gauze I8.

The right-hand exposed area 2| of adhesive and the rest 01' the lower exposed area 20 is shown as covered by a separate strippable layer 22 of gauze which extends beyond the center of the Fig. 1 shows one form of bandage laid out fiat bandage and up over the extension I2, providing as usually shipped, but with parts of a protective gauze pulled back;
