UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT A. BACON, OF NEYV YORK, N. Y.
DIE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 244,520, dated July 19, 1881.
Application filed June 17, 188].
To all whom it may concern Be it knownthat I, ROBERT A. BACON, a. citizen of Canada, residing temporarily in the city and county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dice; and I do hereby declare the following to he a full clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which itappertains to make and use the same, reference being bad 'to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to the manufacture of dice; and it consists in printing, painting, engraving, embossi n g, orotherwise marking upon the faces of each die pictorial representations appropriate to the games to be played; and it further consists in combining with such designs the ordinary spots usually formed on dice, whereby such dice may be used either in the ordinary manner or for playing the special game for which the designs are appropriate.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a die having such designs on its faces. Fig. 2 is a reverse View of the same die.
In this instance the designs on the die are such as are to be used in playing the wellknown game of poker, consisting of the ace, king, queen, kna-ve, ten and nine spots.
In addition to the designs appropriate for (No model.)
poker, I print, engrave, stamp, or otherwise mark upon the faces of the die spots ranging from one to six, corresponding to those usu ally made on dice, whereby the said die may be used in the usual manner in playing other games of chance.
To distinguish the ordinary spots from the poker-spots I usually make them larger or of a different color, and the central spots in the nine and ten may be formed in the center of the larger spots forming the ace and deuce of the ordinary dice.
By this arrangement the dice may be readily and conveniently used in playing poker, and also be as readily employed for playing such other games for which dice are ordinarily used.
\Vhat I claim as new is- 1. Dice provided with pictorial representations appropriate to the game being played, substantially as described.
2. A die having on its faces pictorial devices representing the faces of the cards used in playing poker, substantially as described.
3. The combination, on a die, of the usual spots on each face with pictorial representa tion of the cards used in playing another game, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ROBERT A. BACON.
