' Figure 9 is a sectional detail of construction taken on the line 9-9 of Figure 3 and in the direction of the arrows.
Referring now in detail to the illustrated preferred embodiment of the present invention, like reference characters are used throughout to indicate similar elements thereof.
A box-like housing it! having a cover 12 hingedly secured thereto is provided as a recipient of various components forming the present invention. Conventional hinges M are utilized in holding the lid H to the said housing l0 and suitable securin means are utilized in securing the hinges in the usual operative manner. It is noted at this point that the preferred material of construction is metallic, however, it is within the purviewof the present invention to utilize other materials such as plastic and the like.
A base frame It is received in the bottom [8 of the said housing Ill and may be simply rested thereinor rigidly secured, if so desired. A frame nieznben' collapsible in nature and generally indicatedat 2 0 is used in association with the base frame [6. The'said collapsible apparatus 20 is composed of a plurality of substantially rectangular frame members 22 which are pivotally secured together substantially intermediate the shorter legs thereof. The said shorter legs 24 and 26 may be seen in Figure 5 wherein this hinged connection is disclosed. A brace member 28 extends aoross selected shorter legs, penetrating the inside legs of the frame which happens to be slightly smaller than the associated frame 22 and said cross member 28 terminates within the shorter legs of the said outer frame 22. A Washer 36 serving the purpose of a spacer may be interposed between the said shorter legs 24 and 26 respectively as shown in Figure 5. Then, the terminal portion of the said shorter legs are hingedly mounted in a selected manner as shown particularly well in Figure 4.
As seen in Figure 7, the corner segments of the frame 22 may have apertures in a selected base portion 38. Legs 24 are provided with reduced right angular extensions rotatively received in the apertures and set screw means 60 engageable with the said portion 38 and extensions. 'Ilhis specific structure will be set forth as the description proceeds.
A pair of clamp members 42 and 44 respectively are rigidly secured to the said base frame member 16 by some suitable means such as the rivet means 46 disclosed in Figure 9. A pair of hooks 48 is secured to each of the said clamp members for the purpose of receiving the lowermost longer side member 59 of a selected frame 22. It can be readily appreciated from an inspection of Figure 1 that the said collapsible frame apparatus 20" may be adjusted selectively in vertical positions by utility of selected hooks 48. Also, as is seen in Figure 3 the said frame apparatus 22 may be entirely received within the receptacle or [housing I0.
Reference is now made to Figure 4, wherein there is disclosed a joint utilized throughout certain portions of the collapsible apparatus 20. The terminal portions of a selected frame 22 are provided with reduced shanks 54 which are received in the bore of an adjacent longer leg 34. Thrust bearings 56 may be interposed between a suitable shoulder 58 on the said reduced portion and terminal portion of the said longer leg 34. Set screw means 60 is employed in suitable apertures preferably having countersunk cooperating apertures, for the purpose of providing friction between moving elements. As will be noted from an inspection of Figure 6 there is an annular groove 62 cooperating with the said suitable recess. This annular groove 62 is provided about the periphery of the said reduced portion 54 and received in the terminal portion of the said set screw means 69 therein.
A case 66 is provided on the base [8 of the said housing l and a detachable foraminous lid 68 is provided thereon. Heating means, preferably electrically operated heated elements are stretched across the said case 66 and are retained there by suitablebrackets 69.
Means for impelling air over said and through said heating means is provided. This last mentioned means is preferably electric motor means 73 having fan blades 14 driven thereby. It will be noted that any number of motor and blade assemblies may be employed in accordance with the dictates of sound engineering practice. A
conventional timing device, generally indicated at 16 is provided within said case 66 and is associated with the said motor means 13 through the utility of an electrical conduit 18. This timing means 16 is purely conventional and has associated therewith a usual switch 80.
. As is seen in Figure 1 a cover means 82 is employed over the said collapsible clothes retaining means for the purpose of restricting the air to predetermined, prescribed travel. In the collapsed position, as is seen in Figure 3, the said cover means is retained on the upper portion of the said collapsible clothes retaining apparatus 20, through the utility of the said clamp device, which is seen "in Figure 8. This clamping device 84 consists of a plurality of hooks and a bearing 4 member 86 integral therewith. This bearing member 86 has a slot 88 therein and a lug, received in the selected shorter legs 24 and 2B, which is slidably received in said slot. This lug 90 may be a simple pin having ribs at one end thereof and received in a suitable threaded aperture. Of course, the said clamp 84 may be r0- tated about the shorter legs 24 and 26, and the rotation is limited by contact of the said lug 90 against the extremities of the slot 88.
While there has been described and illustrated but a single preferred embodiment of the present invention, it is apparent to those skilled in the .art, that various changes including omissions,
additions and rearrangement of elements may be made herein without departing from the spirit of the invention. Accordingly, limitation is sought only in accordance with the scope of the following claims.
