This invention relates to means for mounting a nail file upon a suitable member, such as a scrub brush, whereby the unit becomes personalized for individual usage and sterilization, particularlyfwhere the invention is employed by surgeons and-the like in hospitals; A primary ob-1 ject' oi' tl'einventionY in addition to the advantages aboveenumeratedresides in the fact that the nail file ancl'clean"erY is mounted upon a holder to make the file available for immediate usage without having to hang it on a string or the. like atthe' sid'e of a lavatory as has heretofore been the widespread practice. Moreover, a further important object of the invention is to provide an extremely simplified structure which will tend to induce the usage of the article rather than an avoidance thereof. Further objects and ad- Vantages, including the simplicity of the structure will be understood by those versed in the art in the following description of the invention as illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a top plan View of a structure embodying the invention;

Referring iirst to that form of the invention as illustrated in Fi-gs. 1-3 inclusive, a hand scrubbing brush I0 is illustrated as the mounting base. The upper side of this base is provided with a recess I I having a longitudinal edge I2 from which transversely extends an edge I3. A link I4 is pivotally connected to the base Ill by any suitable means, such as the screw I5, in such manner that the link I4 may swing from a position along the edge I2 through substantially 90 degrees of travel to the dash line position as indicated in Fig, l where an edge of the link I4 comes into contact with the vertical edge I3 as the outward limiting stop.

To the outer end of the link I4 is pivotally connected the nail le and cleaner I6 by any suitable means, such as by the rivets I'i. The mounting of the inner end of the link I4 about the screw l5, and also the mounting of the nail le I6 through the 'rivet I1"to"tl'1e'lirikA I4; are

made in such manner that `there is vfrictional resistance to -Inovement of those two 'elements one in respect to the other Aand of the-linkin respect to thevbase lill. Theassembly thus described'l may be 'sterilizedv as such in any of the conventional ways. vWhen the brush is to be used, it may be gripped by the operators hand without the nail le or cleaner in any way interfering so that the bristles I8 may be applied and utilized, all in the customary manner. During the cleaning operation, the operator may swing the nail le out to the dash line position, for example, as indicated in Fig. 1, whereby the outer extending portion of the link I4 and the heel of the nail cleaner I6 may be gripped in the operators hand to have the point end of the cleaner project therefrom for convenience in the cleaning operation, the base Ill coming up snugly against the under portion of the operators hand and against the small finger which serves as a stop and also as a counterbalance, in eiiect, to make the cleaning operation through use of the cleaner I6 more effective.

Where the type of brush I9 as shown in Figs. 4 6 may be employed, to have the usual bristles 2U in addition to the nail cleaning brush 2| within a channel 22 longitudinally of the upper side of the brush I9, the nail cleaner I6 and its mounting link I4 may be applied to the side of the brush I9 by providing a recess 23 on a side face of the brush I9 to have the link I4 mounted therein by a screw 24 toward the inner end of that recess so that the link I4 may swing into and out of the recess as indicated in Fig, 6. In this case, a recess 25 of a shallower depth than the recess 23 is preferably provided to extend along the side of the brush I9 from the recess 23 so that the youter pointed end of the cleaner I6 may rest therein and thereacross as indicated by the dash lines in Fig. 6 when the cleaner is in the inoperative position so that the brush I9 may be gripped in the usual manner without interference of the cleaner along its side.

While I have herein shown and described my invention in the best form as now known to me, obviously it is possible to employ modications without departing from the spirit of the invention, and I therefor do not desire to be limited tool hinged to the other end of said link where- Y by the tool may be swung clear of said base, and returned across said recess with sai-d link in the recess.

2. The combination of a mounting'base having a recess therein opening from one face and dened by a longitudinal shoulder and a transverse shoulder extending therefrom; a link longer than said transverse shoulder and having one endpivoted to said base within said recess adjacent the juncture of` said shoulders; and a nail tool hinged to said link whereby the tool may be swung clear of vsaid base, and returned across said recess with said link in the; recess; said shoulders serving as limiting stops for travel of said link, and said tool being hinged to that end of said link removed from its pivot.

3. The combination of a mounting base having a recess therein opening from one fare and defined by a longitudinal shoulder and a transverse shoulder extending therefrom to said face;

a link pivoted by one end to said base within said recess adjacent the juncture of said shoulders, said link being greater in length than the length of said transverse shoulder whereby the other end of the link may be swung from along said longitudinal shoulder to extend along said transverse shoulder and beyond said face; a nail tool hinged to said other end of said link whereby swinging of said link may carry said tool clear of said base face; and said base having a second recess in said face of less depth than that of the rst recess, said second recess continuing from the rst recess longitudinally of said longitudinal shoulder, whereby said link may be rocked into said rst recess and have said tool extend therealong from the kouter link end and thereover into said second recess.
