1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in fasteners, and more particularly to a fastener adapted for fastening two or more piecesof material or cloth together.
An object of the invention is to provide an improved fastener which will be used more particularly for fastening infants diapers in position.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved fastener which will be especially useful for securing to infants diapers for holding the same in position, and being so constructed that an infant will be unable to unfasten the same or to be injured in any manner thereby.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved form of fastener which will eliminate pointed garment piercing elements, to the end that injury to the infant willbe eliminated at the source.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved form of fastener which may e us d for securing infants diapers in position, and will be so constructed that it may be readily applied by an adult, but may not be removed by the infant, thereby preventing the possibility of the infant removing the fastener and swallowing the same.
Other objects will appear as the description proceeds.
In the accompanying drawings which form a part of this application,
Figure 1 is a front view of an infant shown Wearing a diaper secured in place by the improved fastener;
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view taken through the improved fastener showing two layers of material securely fastened therein;
Figure 3 is a plan view of the improved fastener showing the pivoted plate raised;
Figure 4 is a plan view of the improved fastener showing the hinged plate in secured position;
Figure 5 is a plan view of a button adapted to be used with the improved fastener, and
Figure 6 is a side elevation of the button adapted to be used with the fastener.
Like characters of reference are used throughout the following specification and the accompanying drawings to designate corresponding parts.
In carrying out the invention, there is provided an improved fastener having a cap or head portion I, the same being formed with a raised central portion 2, to form the interiorly disposed recess 3. The lower surface of the fastener is widened to provide the round bearing surface 4 which overlies the upper layer of material 5 when an upper layer of material 5 and the lower layer of material 16 are being secured by said fastener.
The hinge recess 6 is formed at one side of the centrally disposed recess 3 and supports the oval hinge pin 1, which in turn supports the oval hinge socket 8, which supports the circular securing plate 9, the same being formed with an inwardly directed slot [0. A pair of inwardly directed locking fingers II and I2 are formed integrally with the cap or head portion of the fastener l at its base, and are arranged in spaced relation so that the outer edges of the circular securing plate may be swung upwardly to engage said locking fingers and to be moved inwardly beyond the same so that the said looking or securing plate 9 will be held in locked position with respect to the cap or head portion I of the fastener.
The button which is intended to be used with the improved fastener comprises a base portion [3, having an upwardly extendin elongated shank l 4, on the outer end of which the elongated head 15 is mounted.
From the foregoing description, it will be apparent that the mode of operation of the improved fastener will be as follows: The two layers of material 5 and 16 of the diaper or other garment will be positioned as required, and the head 15 of the button will be pushed upwardly to engage the material so that the same willoverlie the button head l5, after which the fastener with the circular securing plate open will be brought adjacent the button and the shank portion M of the button will be slid into the slot H! in the circular securing plate 9 until it reaches the inner end thereof with the material securely clamped over the said head I5. In this position, the circular securing plate 9 will be rotated on its hinge pin 1 to permit the head of the button to enter the center recess 3 in the cap or head portion I of the fastener. The circular securing plate 9 is forced upwardly or inwardly until the outer edges thereof engage the locking fingers H and I2 and pass beyond the same, whereupon the fastener will beheld securely so that it will be impossible for an infant to pull the same loose, the tightness of the fastener being of such an extent that it will require the strength of an adult to separate the circular securing plate 9 from the cap or head portion I when it is desired to remove the fastener.
It will therefore be seen that there has been devised and provided a highly efficient form of fastener which may be used for many purposes, but which has been designed especially for securing infants diapers in position so that the,
infant will not be able to remove the fastener, thus preventing the infant from injuring itself by engaging a sharpened point or by swallowing the button or fastener.
While the preferred embodiment of the mstant invention has been illustrated and described, it will be understood that it is not intended to limit the scope of the invention thereto, as many minor changes in detail of construction may be resorted to Without departure from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
A fastener consisting of an annularly recessed cap, locking fingers extending inwardly from the rim of said cap and overlying the; recessed. in;-
