Read, QueensYillage;*N. -Y." f Application January 19, 1946,} Serial 151 364 314- 'This invention relates to improvements in wrist bands or straps used to secure wrist watches on the wrist of a wearer.
An object of the invention is to provide an im proved safety wrist watch strap which will be so constructed that in the-event of the loss or disengagement of a spring pin used to secure the watch to the strap, the continuity of the strap around the wrist will not be broken.
Another object of the invention is to provide an-improved two piece safety wrist watch strap formed with spring pin loops at one end of each piece, and with a buckle and a tongue at the opposite ends of the pieces, together with a slotted safety link adapted to be connected to the said pieces behind said loops.
A further object of the invention is to provide a safety wrist watch strap which will be highly eificient and self-adjustable in use and quite inexpensive to manufacture and produce.
Other objects will appear as the description proceeds.
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this application,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the safety wrist watch strap showing a wrist watch secured thereto with one spring pin removed from the end of the wrist watch;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of a metal or plastic safety link used in connection with the improved safety wrist watch strap;
Figure 3 is a perspective view of a cloth or leather safety link having supporting loops at its opposite ends, and adapted to be used in connection with the improved safety wrist watch strap,
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the improved safety wrist watch strap showing spring pins positioned in the loops at the ends of the straps.
Like characters of reference are used throughout the following specification and the accompanying drawings to designate corresponding parts.
In carrying out the invention, there is provided a safety wrist watch strap including a wrist encircling band formed of two pieces I and 2, having loops 3 and 4 formed at one end of each piece, and with a buckle 5 and a tongue 6 at the opposite ends of said pieces.
It will be seen from the inspection of the drawings that the tongue end of one of the pieces is provided with a plurality of openings 1 which are adapted to receive the prong or tongue 8 of the buckle 5, to adjust the strap or band to the wrist. A slightly modified form ,of link 52 is illustratedin Figure 3 of the drawings, and comprises a leather or cloth element provided with loops is at its opposite ends in which are secured the rings M, which will be threaded over the pieces I and 2 of the straps to lie behind and immediately adjacent the looped ends 3 and 4.
In Figure 4, a modified showing of the safety wrist watch strap is shown, and includes the cooperating pieces of strap [5 and it, which have the loops H and I 8 formed at an end of each piece, and are provided with the buckle l9, and a tongue 20 at their other extremities.
As part of the safety strap the loops l1 and I8 are adapted to receive the spring pins 2| and 22, and a relatively short section of strap 23 is attached at 24 to the inner surface of the piece of strap l6, and is provided at its free end with a loop 25 which supports the ring 26, said ring being adapted to be threaded on the strap section IE to he immediately behind and adjacent to the loop H. A slight modification of the showing illustrated in Figure 4 could readily be made, in that he loop 25 and ring 26 could be disposed over the end of the strap section l6, and the strap 23 sewed to the strap section IS, a mere reversal of the parts of 23 as shown in the drawings.
It will be understood that the spring pins customarily located between the ears 2'! formed at the opposite ends of the wrist watch 28 will be inserted through the loops I! and I8 at the ends of the strap pieces, and then connected between the said ears to hold the wrist watch in position on the wrist band or strap. It is often the case that a spring pin becomes loose and disengaged from the ears of a wrist watch, and in wrist straps or bands now on the market if this happens, the watch and wrist band are usually lost, since the continuity of the band has ben broken and the wrist watch is free to drop off the wrist. However, in the instant invention, this loss will not happen, as when the links In and I2 are used, behind the loops on the ends of the pieces I and 2, should a spring pin become disengaged, the continuity of the strap or band would not be broken. Likewise if the band were made in accordance with the. tongue 6 pieces i and 2 to be positioned immediately behind and adjacent a the showing in Figure 4, and a spring pin were lost or disengaged, the wrist watch would merely be supported by the spring pin at the opposite end of the watch, and the continuity of the band would not be broken since the piece 23 forms a continuous circle with the pieces I6 and I5 through its ring 26 in engagement with loop 11.
From the foregoing description it will be apparent that there has been provided a highly efficient formlof safety. strap or link-for wristn Lil watches, which mu be fool-proof, 'andself-adjustable and will be so formed that regardless of the loss or disengagement of a spring pin, they st f band will not be free to drop from the w awearer.
