1 Claim.
This invention relates to a table base or support, especially designed for use in forming a part of eating tables.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a table support which is so constructed and arranged that the lower or supporting ends of the legs of the support, will be disposed in spaced relation with the floor surface under the table, so that the cleaning of the floor under and adjacent to the table base or support, may be accomplished with facility.
Another object of the invention is to provide a table support which is securely held in place, and cannot be moved by persons being seated at the table, to cause food or liquids to be spilled on the table.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts, hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claims, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
Referring to the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating a table mounted on a support, constructed in accordance with the invention, the support being secured to the bases of the seats used with the table.
Figure 2 is a plan view of one of the supports of the base.
Figure 3 is a side elevational view of a slightly modified form of support.
Figure 4 is a front elevational view thereof.
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken on line 55 of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the table support or base, comprises a pair of members, each of which comprises a rod bent to provide an offset portion 5 and a securing end 6. When the support is secured to the under surface of a seat as shown by Figure 1, the ofiset portion 5 rests directly under the seat.
The rod is now extended inwardly at an oblique angle with respect to the offset portion 5, providing the supporting leg I.
The upper end of the supporting leg I is extended forwardly at 8, and then at right angles providing an inwardly extended end 9. This inwardly extended end 9 is hollow to accommodate the connecting tube l0 which is fitted therein, the connecting tube [0 and end 9 being formed with openings to accommodate the securing screw II.
The opposite section or side of the base or support, is formed to provide the securing end 9 that extends in a direction opposite to the securing end 9 of the cooperating section, the cooperating ends 9 of the sections housing the connecting tube I'U which is secured within the ends 9 by means of the screws ll.
Connecting the supporting legs 'I at points adjacent to the lower ends thereof, is a connecting rod l2 that has its ends extended through openings in the supporting leg sections, the threaded ends thereof extending beyond the outer surfaces of the supporting leg sections, where they are supplied with cap nuts l8.
The ends 9 of the leg sections provide a support for the table top l3, which is secured to the ends 9, by means of the bolts l4, there being provided leveling bolts l5 carried by the ends 9 for leveling the table top before securing the top.
In the form of the invention as shown by Figures 3 and 4 of the drawings, the structure of the support or table base is identical with the support or base as shown by Figure 1 of the drawings, except that in this form of the invention, the offset portions 5 are eliminated, the supporting legs 1 being formed as extensions of the securing ends I I of the sections.
These securing ends H are formed with openings so that suitable screws or bolts may be extended therethrough and positioned in the supporting surface, securing the table support or base in position.
In this form of the invention, the reference character I8 indicates the table top, which is secured to the forwardly extended table-attaching arms l4, by means of the screws l9. Leveling screws 29 extend upwardly from the forwardly extended table-attaching arms l4, and afford means whereby the table top may be leveled.
It may be desirable in some instances, to secure the securing ends ll' of the support to the floor surface, in which case, the securing screws 2| are provided.
When the sections are supported or connected with the seats used with the table, it is preferable to use the form of the invention as shown by Figure 1 of the drawings, since the offset portions 5 thereof compensate for the depth of the seat. In this form of the invention, securing screws 22 extend through the securing ends of the sections to gmnect directly with the front edge of the sea each supporting leg being then extended laterally with respect to its supporting section, the hollow ends of the sections being in line with each other;
and a tube fitted within the hollow ends and being secured thereto holding the sections together, the upper ends of the sections being secured to a table, the lower horizontal parallelsupporting ends of the sections being extended under seats and secured thereto.
