PILOT LIGHT Filed Jan. 21, 1947 mveflfor" Jess W Paper" Patented Aug. 16, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE PILOT LIGHT Jess W. Raper, Oak Park, N. C. Application January 21, 1947, Serial No. 723,402
2 Claims.
This invention relates to a novel and improved pilot light of which the following is a specification.
The primary object of this invention resides in the provision of a new and improved electrical pilot light which is adapted to be readily placed in any available outlet to visually signify whether or not the circuit is alive.
Still another object is the provision of a pilot light which is adapted to illustrate a small glowing cross of a colored light adding a spiritual valve to the lamp when it is used.
Still a further object of this invention is the provision of a device of the character described which will also guide a person in a darkened room to an available wall outlet socket.
Still a further object of this invention is the provision of such a spiritual pilot light as described which is of simple, durable and inexpensive design which is effective, useful and long lasting in use.
Still further improvements and advantages of this invention will readily appear to those skilled in the art when the following description is read in the light of the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of the lamp.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the lamp.
Fig. 3 is a back view of the lamp housing.
Fig. 4 is a vertical cross section taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a back view'of the lamp tube and wiring thereof.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the cross and backing therefor.
Referring now to the accompanying drawings which illustrate the preferred embodiment of the invention and in which like numerals indicate similar parts throughout the drawings A designates a rectangular hollow housing having a removable back I therein and a raised protruding curved border 2 thereabout.
The front of the housing comprises an inset flanged plate 3 having a plurality of vertically spaced horizontal ribs or corrugations 4 transverse the outer face thereof. These ribs 4 are cut off for a spaced distance vertically in the center.
thereof and outwardly at opposite points at a given height to form an aperture 5 therein in the shape of a cross.
A transparent cross 6 of plastic or the like having an enlarged flanged base I thereabout is adapted to be inserted outwardly through the cross slot in an extended position therethrough and secured therein by a glued or cemented abutment of the outward face of the flange I with the inner surface of the housing front bordering the cross slot.
A neon glow tube 8 of approximately .25watts and v. is vertically disposed in said housing directly disposed behind said transparent plastic cross and its pair of circuit leads 9 and I 0 are carried outwardly toward the sides of the housing where they are secured through a horizontal insulating arm I l at each end thereof to be secured at the second side of said arm each to one of a pair of male connector prongs l2 which are securely locked in said housing back I by stepped teeth l3 therein which lock said prongs in an extended penetrating position outward therefrom.
When the back I is secured to the housing by a pair of inset screws I5 the housing then forms a compact plug-in spiritual pilot light which is adapted to be plugged into any female outlet in a home or the like to indicate whether or not the building circuit is alive or not as well as to form such a pilot light of a spiritual constant reminder value.
It may readily be seen that such a portable pilot light may be constructed of any desirable and satisfactory materials and embody any desired coloring and colored light effect Within the scope of the inventive concept.
Thus having described and expained this invention and with full belief that modifications in size, materials and general characteristics would not constitute a departure from the spirit of this invention what I desire to claim in Letters Patent 1. A spiritual pilot light of the character described comprising, an enclosed hollow rectangular housing, a plurality of vertically spaced horizontal ribs transverse the front face of said housing, a cross shaped slotted aperture in said ribbed face, a flanged transparent cross secured in said aperture, a neon glow tube carried within said housing adjacent said transparent cross, insulated electrical leads from said tube, a removable back on said housing, and a pair of spaced male REFERENCES CITED The following references are of record in the file of this' natent'r Number UNITED STATES PATENTS Name Date Barclay Nov. 28, 1933 Asch Apr. 7, 1936 Abramson June 15, 1937 Kantack Apr. 9, 1940 Schleif Aug. 3, 1943
