2 Claims.

The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in hair brushes, and more particularly to a means for cleaning the bristles of the brush.

An important object of the present invention is to provide a hair brush including a brush head in which the bristles ofthe brush are embedded together with a cleaning plate having openings for sliding inwardly and outwardl alon the bristles to clean the bristles together with means for locking the cleaning plate against the underside of the brush head.

A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, which is neat and attractive in appearance, efficient and reliable in use, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.

Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

Referring now to the drawings in detail and first with respect to the form of the invention illustrated in Figures 1 to 4 inclusive, the numeral 5 designates a brush head preferably constructed of plastic or other suitable material and of a type generally known as military brushes.

The back or upper surface of the brush head is formed with a longitudinally extending groove 6, the bottom of the groove adjacent the ends thereof having openings 1 extending through the brush head and the bottom of the roove inwardly of the openings 1 also having openings or recesses 8 therein, the edges of the opening 8 being inclined inwardly and upwardly as shown more clearly in Figures 2 and 3 of the drawings.

A pair of lugs l2 extend upwardly from-the cleaning plate ll adjacent the ends thereof for insertion in the openings 1 of the brush head and to the upper ends of the lugs l2 are pivotally attached hooks l3 which are likewise slidably received in the openings 1. The beak portion I4 of the hook is inclined at an acute angle with respect to the shank portion I5 thereof and shaped to enter the openings or recesses 8 of the brush 8 in a manner to lock the cleaning plate I I against the bottom of the brush head 5.

The rear portion of the beaks [4 of the hooks provide inclined finger engaging surfaces It; by means of which the hooks may be easily gripped and moved into a raised position as shown by the dotted lines in Figure 2 of the drawings, after which the hooks may be depressed to slide the cleaning plate downwardly over the bristles 9 to thus clean the bristles.

In the form of the invention illustrated in Figures 5 to '7 inclusive, the brush head is shown at I! having the bristles 18 extending downwardly thereof and having a longitudinally extending groove I9 in its upper surface. The cleaning plate is shown at 20 for sliding over the bristles as heretofore explained and the locking hooks are indicated at 2| which function in the same manner as heretofore explained with respect to the form of the invention illustrated in Figures 1 to 4 inclusive. The cleaning plate 20 is provided with a handle 22 which projects from one edge thereof, the handle being used for holding the brush during its use.

In Figures 8 and 9, a circular brushhead 23 is shown having a plurality of slots 24 extending radially from the center thereof and in which the locking hooks 25 are received for the cleaning plate 26, the locking hooks and cleaning plate functioning in the same manner as heretofore explained. The cleaning plate 26 is also provided with a radially extending handle 21.

In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the construction, operation and advantages of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in the art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.

It is to be understood, however, that even though there are herein shown and described three embodiments of the invention the same are susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. A hair brush including a head having bristles extending from one side thereof, an apertured cleaning plate slidable on said bristles into and from engagement with said head, hooks on said plate slidable endwise through said head to guide sliding movement of said plate and having beaks for engaging said head on the side opposite said bristles to limit sliding movement of said plate from engagement with said head, said hooks being pivoted to said plate with pivots thereof spaced from the plate for swinging down against said head into parallel overlying relation thereto to hold said plate engaged with said head, said head having apertures therein at an angle to the plane of said head for receiving and frictionally locking said beaks therein to hold said hooks in downswung position. 7

A hair brush including a head having bristles extending from one side thereof, an apertured cleaning plate slidable on said bristles into and from engagement with said head, hooks on said plate slidable endwise through said head to guide 4 sliding movement of said plate and having beaks for engaging said head on the side opposite said bristles to limit sliding movement of said plate from engagement with said head, said hooks being pivoted to said plate with the pivots thereof spaced from the plate for swinging down against said head into parallel overlying relation thereto to hold said plate engaged with said head, said plate having lateral lugs on which said hooks are pivoted, and said head having apertures therein in which said hooks are slidably guided and for receiving said lugs to space said pivots above said head to provide for downward swinging of said hooks.
