Application November 27, 1945, Serial No. 631,071
1 Claim.
quently there is a tremendous waste of material as well as of attractive designs. It is the purpose of this invention to utilize the full value of the artistic design on greeting cards by providing a 7 framed picture in combination with a greeting card.
It is a further purpose and object of this invention to provide a greeting folder having a framed picture removably mounted therein.
It is an additional object of this invention to provide a protected framed picture mounted in a greeting folder such as for example, a birthday or Christmas greeting card or the like. a
Further objects of this invention as well as the construction and features thereof will in part be obvious and will in part become apparent from the following disclosure.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claim in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawings forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a greeting card constructed in accordance with this invention.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the greeting card in Fig. 1, shown in an opened position.
Fig. 3 is a rear perspective view of the greeting card shown in Fig. l.
Fig. 4 is a cross section of the article shown in Fig. 1, taken along the line 4-4.
Fig. 5 is a front perspective view of one form ally be added to the folder, along with other decorations, trims,'designs, and the like. Similarly a greeting, message, poem, or other reading matter may be placed on the folder in a conventional manner. The opening 24 in the front cover 2| of the folder may be of any desired size or shape, and may optionally even be omitted, but in the generally used form of the invention, it is contemplated that the opening will be substantially over the picture 23, so that the picture may be viewed through the front cover. In this way, the cover acts additionally as a decorative frame for the picture.
The picture 23 as shown in the figures has a glass or other transparent sheet 2! protectively covering it. The corners of the picture and the glass are bound together by means of corner tabs 26. On the rear surface of the back member 22 (see Fig. 3) is, for example, a printed instruction sheet stating that the member may be out along indicated lines whereby a beautiful picture can be obtained, ready for placing on a desk, hanging on a wall, or the like; and accordingly a dotted outline or perforated outline 28 will be provided on the rear member along which the picture is to be cut out. Likewise, the back of the member 22 may be provided with a hook or similar hanging member 29 by which the picture may be hung on a wall, after it has been cut out.
As shown in Fig. 4, an intermediate picture backing, such as, for example, a thin cardboard 30 or the like is placed between the picture 23 and the back member 22, and is secured to the back member by a layer of glue 3| or other adhesive.
In Figs. 5 and 6 are shown front and back views of the picture after it has been removed from the folder. The picture thus shown has a frame in the form of corner tabs 26, and on the back of the assembly is a hook or hanger 29 by which the picture may be hung. The outline of the perforated lines 28 is shown in Fig. 6 which illustrates the rear of the picture assembly.
It is to be understood that instead of perforations 28, score lines or any guide lines may be provided and some of these lines may be cut through to facilitate the removal of the picture and the frame from the greeting card folder.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent, is:
A greeting folder having a front cover and a back member, a generally rectangular picture mounted on the back member within the folder, a matching glass or the like secured over the face of the picture, a frame, the picture, glass and frame beingremoigable as a self .-containe d integral unit, and an opening in the front cover substantially co-extensive with the area of the picture whereby the picture may be viewed through the front cover, said frame comprising corner tabs securing together the corners of the picture and the glass. 7
