This invention relates to a growing doll.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a doll construction formed of separable parts which can be expanded and simple mechanism for slowly expanding the same whereby to simulate a growing effect of the doll over an eX- tended period of time.

Other objects of the present invention are to provide a growing doll which is of simple construction, inexpensive to manufacture, of minimum parts, easy to set, and efficient in operation.

For a better understanding of the invention, reference is made to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a front elevational View of the doll embodying the features of the present invention with the separable parts retracted,

Fig. 2 is a rear elevational View of the doll with the parts extended to substantially full growth and with portions broken away to show the operable parts thereof,

Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the clock motor,

Fig. 4 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on line 4--4 of Fig. 2,

Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 5 5 of Fig. 2,

Referring now to the figures, I0 represents a set of legs forming one part and II represents the upper part or other part of the body on which there is a head I2 and arms I3. The upper part I I has a large recess I4 into which the upper portion of the leg set I0 may be retracted. The parts I Il and I may be formed of rubber or other doll material.

In the leg set I0 are spaced holes I5 into the bottom of which there is extended and fixed respectively rods I6. In the body part I| are long holes II corresponding respectively to the holes I5. Intermediate the length of each hole I7 is a shoulder I8 against which a washer I9 on the rod I6 is forced by a spring 2| surrounding the rod I6 and tending to support' the parts I0 and II. The washer I9 is held in place on the rod I6 by a pin 22. The washer I9 lies in the hole |'I and against the shoulder I8 and lifts the part I I when acted upon by the spring 2 I.

When the parts are forced together so that the doll will be of short length as shown in Figure 1, the springs 2| will be :compressed and the rods I6 will extend to the upper ends of the openings I1.

To retain the parts together and to permit their slow separation or their growing eiect. there is provided a clock motor 24 having a drum 25 with a string 26 which is connectedto an eye 21 xed in a recess 28 in the upper end of the leg set I0. This clock motor is wound by a turn knob 3| and as the motor operates portions of the string 26 will be let out and the parts will be separated slowly by the springs 2|. The clock spring can be set by a turn knob 29.

The clock motor is tted into a recess 33 in the back of the part II and is secured there within by screws 34 entering holes 35 in the respective corners of the clock and threaded into the body part II.

While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as dened by the appended claims.

I claim:

1. A growing doll comprising separable body parts, one of said parts having a large recess into which the other part may be extended, openings in the parts, guide rods extending between and through the corresponding openings of the respective parts, springs acting upon the rods to separate the parts, a clock motor device secured to one part and connected to the other part to gradually permit the extension of the body parts by the springs whereby to simulate a growing elect of the doll.

2. A growing doll comprising separable body parts, one of said parts having a large recess into which the other'part may be extended, openings in the parts, guide rods extending between and through the corresponding openings of the respective parts, springs acting upon the rods to separate the parts, a clock motor device secured to one part and connected to the other part to gradually permit the extension of the body parts by the springs whereby to simulate a growing effect of the doll, the openings in one of the parts having a shoulder, a washer extending about the respective rods and engageable with the shoulders of the respective openings, means for retaining the washers on the rods and the springs reacting against the washers.

A growing doll comprising separable body parts, one of said parts having a large recess into which the other part may be extended, openings in the parts, guide rods extending between and through the corresponding openings of the respective parts, springs acting upon the rods to separate the parts, a clock motor device secured to one part and connected to the other part to gradually permit the extension of the body parts by the springs whereby to simulate a growing eifect of the doll, said timing device comprising a string, a clock motor, a drum on the clock motor and said string extending over the drum, an eye connected to the other part and the string connected to the eye.
