Description
March 1 T. w. SNAITH I I COMBINATION DUPLEX COLLAPSIBLE CONTAINER AND DISPENSING MEANS Filed Sept. 25, 1950 INVENTOR. THOMAS W. SNA/TH RY A TTOHWE) Registered Feb. 19, 1952 COMBINATION DUPLEX COLLAPSIBLE CON- TAINER AND DISPENSING MEANS Thomas W. Snaith, San Francisco, Calif.
Application September 25, 1950, Serial No. 186,532
1 Claim.
This invention relates to an improved combination container and dispenser of the type used to hold a quantity of liquid or paste-like material.
The present invention embodies a collapsible combination container and dispenser which is adapted to hold a quantity of liquid or semiliquid material such as hair tonic, shaving lotion, tooth paste and the like. The collapsible container is adapted to be suspended at one end from a ring or other device and its opposite end is provided with a self-closing outlet valve which may be readily opened to allow the contents to be dispensed in such quantities as theuser may from time to time require. In accordance with my invention it is contemplated that several of such collapsible containers either of the single or duplex type be suspended from a single ring? thereby providing a kit for convenient use by military personnel and others which includes such commonly used neccessities as shavin soap, shaving lotion, tooth paste, cold cream, and the like.
The primary object of my invention is to provide an improved combination collapsible container and dispenser of the kind characterized, which is inexpensive to manufacture and convenient to carry and operate.
For the purposes of this application I have elected to show herein certain forms and details of a collapsible combination container and dispenser representative of my invention. It is to be understood, however, that the embodiments of my invention herein shown and described are for purposes of illustration only, and that therefore they are not to be regarded as exhaustive of the variations of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings:
Fig. 1 is a vertical longitudinal section taken centrally through a single type combination collapsible container and dispenser, embodying the principles of my invention;
Fig. 2 is a similar view of a duplex type combination collapsible container and dispenser; and
Fig. 3 is a side elevation on a reduced scale of the device shown in Fig. 1.
Referring first to Fig. 1, the numeral I designates an elongated collapsible container which is preferably made from rubber or other suitable flexible material. The upper end of the container l is formed with an eye portion 2 which provides means for its attachment to a ring 3 or other suitable supporting device, The lower end of the container is suitably secured to and closed by an externally threaded end member 4 which is provided with one or more outlet openings 5 through which the liquid or semi-liquid contents of the container ma proceed. Secured to the externally threaded end member 4 as by an internally threaded ring shaped element 6 is a flexible nipple I made of rubber or the like and which is provided with an outlet opening 8 at its extreme lower end. The upper open end of the nipple is arranged to receive the contents of the container discharged through the outlet openings 5 in the end member s. Secured to and depending from the end member 4 is an elongated rigid pin or valve me ber 9 which normally closes the outlet opening 8 in the nipple and thereby prevents the contents of the said nipple from escaping.
When it is desired that some of the material in the nipple 1 be dispensed a person may squeeze the nipple and at the same time pull it sideways or downwardly to disengage the outlet opening from the valve member 9. The material in the container I if a liquid will either flow downwardly to replenish the supply previously held in the nipple, or if such material is paste-like, the walls of the container may be pressed toward each other to forcibly expel some of the contents through the openings 5 and into the nipple.
In the embodiment of my invention shown in Fig. 2 an elongated collapsible container is extended over a ring Ill and doubled back upon itself to provide duplex containers l l. A suitable ring i2 is preferably extended around the container at points where it engages with the ring Ill. The lower ends of the duplex containers H are suitably secured to two upwardly disposed protuberances [3 formed on an externally threaded end member l4. Suitable independent openings !5 in the protuberances l3 and the end member l4 allow the material in the two portions of the container to flow or discharge into a nipple is which is secured by a threaded ring shaped element I1 to the end member. A rigid depending pin or valve member l8 secured to the end member [4 normally closes an outlet opening [9 in the nipple.
What I claim is:
In a combination container and dispenser, an elongated collapsible tube doubled back upon itself to provide two collapsible containers arranged in side-by-side relationship, the said containers having ad acent end portions provided with outlet openings, an end member havin spaced duplex protuberances, the open end portions of the duplex containers being secured to the protuberances and closed thereby, passageways extending through the protuberances and the end member and communicating with the outlet openings of the containers for the passage of material from the containers, a flexible nipple secured to the end member and having an open end arranged to receive the material discharged from the passageways in the end member, the said nipple having an outlet opening, and a rigid valve member secured to the end member and arranged to normally close the outlet opening in the nipple.
