4 Claims. (Cl. 40-125) This invention relates in general to a display of the pressure adhesive type adapted to be applied under pressure and to adhere to various surfaces for informative display or advertising purposes.

An important object of the invention'is to pro vide an adhesive display of this kind having display or informative material on both sides and adapted to be applied to a glass door, window or other transparent surfaces so that directions, advertising or other material may be observed and read from both sides of the display.

A further object of the invention is to provide a pressure adhesive display which may be applied invarious ways to different surfaces, at the margin, transversely and internally of the edges thereof.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a display of this type adapted to receive and to hold various informative or directional Fig. 8 illustrates a display similar to Fig. 6 having an opening through the holder so that display or informational matter may be mounted in the front of the display holder and a portion of the back thereof may be visible through the opening at the rear of the holder and piecesv in a space provided therein and in contact with a glass or other transparency so that it may be observed from the opposite side thereof.

A still further object of th invention is to provide a display of this kind having an opening therethrough and a container for informational or display material adapted to be seated in the opening and visible from both sides of the display, and the display itself being adhesively adaptable to a transparent support so that material on both sides may be visible.

Other objects of the invention will appear in the specification and will be apparent from the accompanying drawings in which Fig. 1 is a face view of a pressure sensitive display in accordance with this invention;

Advertising and directional displays have heretofore been provided'with pressure adhesive attachment surfaces by which when attached by one side and adhering to the surface, the other surface is disposed outermost and is visiblefor advertising a display purpose. The present invention provides a pressure adhesive display having advertising or directional matter on both sides thereof which may be attached to a pane of glass or any other suitable transparent support so that advertising matteron both sides of the display will be unobstructed and clearly visible.

As a further addition, this display may provide means for supporting a. display ticket or card which may be attached to the inside of a glass such as a windshield and be visible not only from the outside, but if desired, a window aperture in the holder may be provided so that the ticket or card will be held in place in the front of the opening and also the back portion of it will be visible but not freely removable from the rear side of the holder.

Referring now-more particularly to the drawings, a display is shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 which comprises a back or rear sheet 10 having a pressure sensitive adhesive ll covering one surface and advertising or directional matter It appearing on the other surface.

Applied to the pressure sensitive surface II is a cover sheet I3 which may have informative or movable strip [5 having a cut or score line I6 which separates it from the sheet I3 so that together they cover the entire adhesive surface II ofthe sheet Ill. While the marginal strip is desirable for attaching the display all'about its edge, and for any decorative efiect that this may have, it is also proposed to provide straight tear strips I! as shown in Fig. 4 which extend across the ends of cover sheet l8 separating outer portions I9 from the central or main portion when the strips are removed. It is also apparent 'that other strips or portions 20 "disposed interiorly of the edges of the sheet I8 may be removed in the same way that the marginal or other strips are removed by peeling them from the adhes ve I I so that the adhesive surface thus exposed may adhere to a surface to which the display, is applied, and if the support surface is a transparent pane of glass 2|, the portions 29 will appear as decorative features together with the other exposed adhesive portions. 7

The outer sheet I3 and the removable strip are usually. made of Holland cloth, glassine paper, and similar materials which adhere closely to the pressure adhesive H, but may be peeled or removed therefrom. When these displays are applied to a glass 2|, the strip or strips and other removable portions are first peeled or removed from the remainder of the display leaving the adhesive surface exposed which is then applied by pressure and adheres to the surface of the glass or other material to which it is applied. When the marginal strip is to be removed as in Fig. 1, a cut 22 extending to the marginal edge is usually provided to which a removing direction is applied by means of an arrow or pointer 23.

This type of display is particularly desirable and applicable in presenting a license card, number or letter upon the inside of an automobile windshield, for example, or at theinside of a door or window in a place of business. In this location, the display is usuallyvisible from the outside, it is protected from unauthorized removal and from the weather, and it may also be utilized for display or decorative purposes and to indicate alsoto a person at the inside what the outside designation may be.

A display holder as shown in Figs. 5 and 6 3 comprises a back sheet or card 25 having pressure sensitive adhesive 26 covering one surface thereof and having any display or advertising material as shown in Fig. 2 upon the rear face thereof. A cover sheet 21 of Holland cloth, and the like, is applied to the adhesive side having a removable marginal strip 23 and also an interior removable portion 29.

Toutilize this display as a holder, the interior portion 29 is first removed and a ticket, stamp or othersheet of a size smaller than the remaining sheet 21 is applied thereto with a character or designation 3i in the outer face. The marginal edge 28 is then removed and the holder is'then applied to a glass 32 or any other suitable support. The marginal edges where the adhesive 26 is exposed are then pressed tightly against the glass 32. and the ticket or other display 3!] is then held in protected position against the glass visible from the outer side thereof. At the same time, it will be apparent that the rear face of the sheet or holder 25 may also be visible from the inside. V

As shown in Figs. 8 and 9, this holder structure may be modified by providing a window opening 33 in the back or cover sheet 25 so that when the cover portion 29 is removed, it will uncover a marginal adhesive edge 34 at the inside of the sheet 21 and to this adhesive marginal edge 34, the stamp or other sheet 38 may be applied. The back of this stamp or sheet will be visible through the opening 33 when this holder is applied to a window as shown in Fig. 9.

These displays therefore constitute double or duplex advertising, instructive or directional signs, they are easily and almost instantly applied to any surface either at the inside or outside of a transparent support and require no additional holding means for securing them in place. 4 ticles or merchandise. A holder of the type shown in Figs. 8 and 9 may have a projection through the window 33 such as a strip of paper or cloth to provide an additional support; or the window opening 33 may be smaller allowing only a projection or stem as of a headed bolt to project therefrom to which other articles may be secured.

While a pressure adhesive is referred to, since this is the type usually covered by a removable portion of the display, a glue or other adhesive coating requiring a moistener or a solvent of some kind to make it adhesive, may also be used. An adhesive coatingof this kind might not require a cover or a removable margin portion. Furthermore, instead of the marginal portion being removable, adhesive may be applied in spots around the display and pressed against an article such as a Window to which the display is attached. These spots might be around the margin or within the interior of the adhesive face of the display.

' While preferred forms of the invention have been thus described in some detail, they should be regarded by way of example and illustration rather than as a limitation since it is apparent that various other constructions, combinations and arrangements maybe used in producing a display constructed and supported as thus described, without departingfrom the spirit and scope of the invention; H

. I claim:

l, A new article of manufacture, comprising a display sign adapted to be pasted upon a transparent support, a sign comprising a holder sheet having display matter on one sideand adhesive coating completely covering the other side, a cover sheet for the adhesive coating having removable portions to uncover the adhesive by which the sign is attached to the transparent support, the outer surface of the cover sheet ha ving display material thereon and the uncoveredportions of the adhesive forming a display pattern visible through the transparent support when the sheets are applied and attached thereto, and the display matter on the sheets being visible through the transparent support and from the outer side of the holder sheet.

2. A new article of manufacture, comprising a double layer display sign adapted to'be pasted upon a transparent support comprising a sheet with display material on one side and pressure sensitive adhesive entirely covering the other side, a cover sheet attached to and protecting the entire adhesive side of the holder sheet and having display material on the outer side opposite the display material on the holder sheet to provide advertising material on opposite sides of the display, the cover sheet'having a removable marginal portion which covers and protects the adhesive until it is removed and forms a pattern portion for the display on that side which is visible through the transparent supports 3. A new article of manufacture; a display sign adapted to be pasted 'upon'a transparent support and visiblefrom both sides'thereof, the sign comprising a holder sheet having display material on one side and adhesive entirely covering the other side, a cover sheetfor protecting the entire adhesive surface of the holder sheet having a removable portion to uncover a portion of the adhesive, a display sheet insertable in place of the removable portion and attached by the adhesive having a display on its outer surface v1s1ble through the transparent support opposite sheet having other removable portions adapted to be peeled from and uncovering the adhesive for attaching the sign to the transparent support.

4. A new article of manufacture, comprising a duplex display sign adapted to be pasted upon a transparent support and comprising a holder sheet having display material on one face and an adhesive entirely covering the other face, a

cover sheet applied to protect the entire adhesive 10 coating having removable portions to uncover portions of the adhesive, the holder having an opening through one of said portions uncovered by removing a portion of the cover sheet leaving a margin on the adhesive side when the cover portion thereof is removed, a display sheet attached to the adhesive margin of the opening and having display matter on both sides visible through said opening of the holder sheet and from the opposite side through the transparent support, and other portions of the cover sheet being removable to attach the sign to the transparent support and comprising a display portion visible through the transparent support.
