1 The invention relates to improvements in sanitary slippers as described in the present specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings which form a part of the same. v

The invention consists essentially of the novel features of construction as pointed out broadly and specifically in the claims for novelty following a description containing an explanation in detail of an acceptable form of the invention.

The objects of the invention are to furnish sanitary slippers which may be easily set up ready for use from a fiat blank; to make a slipper from paper or the like, thus renderin the same exceptionally inexpensive so as to permit the user to discard the slippers after they have been used a few times; to promote anitary conditions in the home or institutions by providing inexpensive sanitary slippers which may be used in bathrooms, steam baths, and for going to and from indoor swimming pools and the like; to furnish folding slippers which may be easily carried when travelling and yet which will be simple to set up ready for use; to facilitate forming paper slippers and the like from a single blank of material in which the same is provided with suitably interlocking means for holding the slipper in a set up position; and generally to provide sanitary slippers which will be inexpensive, easy to put on and comfortable to wear.

Referrin to the drawings, the blank as indicated by the numeral III is cut from a single sheet of material and comprises a bottom wall or sole portion II having wing or flap portions I2, I3, and i4 extending outward therefrom and being integral therewith. The wing or flap portion I2 extends outward from the one side of the foot portion of the bottom wall I I. A retaining flap I5 extends outward from the front portion of the wing or flap portion I2 and is adapted to be folded inward towards the latter. This wing or flap portion I2 has slots I6 and Il cut in same. These slots I6 and H are actually made by cutting arcuate slits in the material and then bending the portion extending inward from'thearcuate slit slightly downward so as to facilitate I This wing I2 extends outward from the bottom wall I I and is arcuately shaped along the edge there of, being wider in the central portion of same. A locking lug I8 is formed in the wing I3 I towards the outer portion thereof by cutting a U-shaped slit in the material and then bending the portion inside this U slightly upward while the blank is still in a flat position. This looking lug I8 is integral with the wing I3 and extends inward towards the bottom wall or sole portion II. This wing I3 extends outward from the bottom wall I I and is arcuately shaped along the edge thereof, being wider in the central portion of same, and is provided with a small hole ISA located adjacent the locking lug I8, between the lug and the top edge of the wing.

An elongated flap or wing portion I4 extends outward from the bottom wall or sole portion I I and is located directly to the rear of the wing portion I3. A locking lug I9 is located in the outer portion of this wing or flap portion I4 and extends inward towards the bottom wall II in a similar manner to that of the locking lug I8. A small hole I9A is provided in the flap I4 adjacent the locking lug I9, corresponding in position to the hole ISA in the wing I3. This wing I I extends outward in an arcuate manner at the extreme ends of same and the side portions curve inwardly.

The bottom wall II has a locking 1118 23 located in the heel portion thereof. This locking lug is similar to the locking lugs I8 and I9 in the wings and it extends forward and is slightly raised at the free end of same.

The insole 2I shown in Figure 2 is cut from a flat piece of material and provided with a slot 222 in the heel portion thereof. This slot 22 is cut and shaped in a similar manner to that ofv the slots I6 and I! in the wing I2.

In folding the sanitary slipper ready for use, the insole 2I is placed over the bottom wall II and the locking lug 23 engages with the slot 22 thus securing the inner sole to the bottom wall 7 at the rear thereof. The wing I2 is folded upward and the retaining flap I5 on the front portion thereof folds under the front end of the innersole. A paper fastener 24, or any other suitable locking member, engages through the hole [8A in the wing l3 with the head of same on the inside of the wing. The prongs of the fastener are spread to retain it to the Wing, while the slipper is in its open or unfolded state. 5

After wing l2 has been folded to the inner sole the wing i3 is folded over the wing 12 and the looking lug I8 engages in the: slot 15, thus securing the: two :wings together. The elongated wing I4 is folded over the wing 13, the prongs 10 of the fastener 24 first being closed together, the fastener engages through the hole 19A and theprongs of same being openedeorlspread ,toibe; held to the wing l4, locking the wing M to the wing I3, the locking lug I9 engaging in the slot ll in the wing l2.
