Description

D. BEATMAN SUCTION AND FLUSHING MASSAGE DEVICE Filed April 27, 1949 INVENTOR. fgmma/lu This invention pertams to a new and improved therapeutic device for ai ding arid'-"- assisting ;'the
to relieve itself of-wast'e accumulations in the skin surfaces It 'i'sparticularly directed to an. improved device"for; promoting circulation of blood in the skin suri aices ofthe human body. :L'Ihere are many devices for promoting circulation i of blood "inth'e epidermis or the human body-r. Most oftheseare basedeither upon either meohanicalfior medicinal rmeans. This'inven- 131011115 primarily 'concerned' -with the mechanical types. Most of the mechanical types' are basedupon' the'princ'iple of vibrating a disc or some other type of shape that is held against the skin surface. Such rapidly vibrating disc or, device presses to and fro on-the s urfa'ce of the skin of the body and stimulates'the flow of blood within the skin ,In coprse of such action, oil, dirt, deposits of grease; blackheads, etc.,'t'-.ar"e loosened under the effect of th evibrati-.;;and in many cases pop 'out to thefsuriieiceiwhere they can be readily' removed1;without" lia'lrmand danger to the s'kin i-tselilj fl lojwwarmest vibrators of the contact typ'e'''=instead of acting as va device toremove such blemishes on the surface of" the skin have a tendency to grind 'these into the skin andjinstead of'helping the 'skfinft'o clear itseli,-impart Iadditionalburdens-to' it' and may be the cause of dangerous skin eiiects leading to skin cancer and other serious disorders.
Again some devices used for promoting circulation depend upon liquid such as water, al-
'cohols, etc. carrying therein generally in soa niivloltf g1 r Basis;
tons}, extensions and modiiications'f will be clearly apparent 'rectly' as a; limitation of the I fundamental eonto new and temperature.
a massaging device of therapeutic value which removes sweat and detritus found within the pores of the body.
A still further object or my invention is an improved massaging device which not only opens the pores but also flushes away the dirt and grime found thereon.
A further .and additional object of my invention is to provide a massaging device for promoting the circulation of blood in the surface of the body which is economical to produce and effective in its action.
These and other objects, adaptations, varia- "ceptsfunderlying my invention 'as claimedbr illustrated in the attachedorawi'ng' forming a p re I} r For-purposes of clarity, characters used in'tlie drawings to point out the elements underlying my' inVentionhre' the same "as lused heifeinbe- :iowft identify tr e s iq elements n} relation to :Figure 1 shows "my improved device in fus --F.igure '2' shows in detail 3 my in In-oveddevice in which on'e or "the"'massag-e ap 'ilicai'lors 'is shown in 'sectiomwhile a i =1 2 J c *Figure shows the 'face' of -the individual ap- IMA A My imp'roved massaging device consists or a hose l0 having on'one' end thereof a suitable icoupling iz which is capable of'f'being attached atova supply of Wat-er that can be regulated as n v I Faucets'ofthistype v1 are well known and 'are not apart of "myinvention. The 'other end of the "said hose 10 terminates in 'a' bifurcated hose divider" 1'4 "that forms preferably an integral part of the tubes 16 and I8 attached to spray head drums 20 and '22 respectively through nipples 24 and 26 respectively, the latter forming preferably an integral part of said spray head drums 20 and 22.
On the said spray head drums 20 and 22 are placed circular sheets 28 of the proper size to fit'over the drums 2i! and 22. The sheets 28 have therein a series of perforations 30 placed preferably equidistant from each other in a circle about the outer edge of a suction cup 32. The suction cup 32 and the circular plate or sheet 28 are retained or fastened together by means of a rivet 34 or any other suitable means by which the two can be joined fixedly. The entire assembly is held together by means of a threaded annular ring 36 which engages threads 38 on the spray head drums 20 and 22.
The suction cup 32 consists of an open semielliptical or hemispherical hollow shape made preferably of such plastic or elastic materialas rubber. This portion of my invention is placed against the body of the user and forced inwardly until all of the air within the space encompassed by the shape is practically ex cumulated wastes and grime in the skin but also aids in improving the circulation of the blood in and about the area under treatment by my improved massaging device.
In use, I adjust the temperature as well as flow of water from the faucet through. the hoselil into the spray heads 20 and 22. I grasp each of the spray heads in each hand and apply alter-- nately one spray head and thenthe otherspray head to the selected portions of the body. The
water emerges through the perforations .30 andv sprays on the skin. The suction cup 32 is then applied against the skin and forced downwardly until .a suction is created beneath the cup. The skin moistened with water helps-to provide a 'better seal for the rim ofthe suction cup 32. In the meantime while the suction is being applied wateris constantly flushingthe skin area about the suction cup. 32.. If relatively hot water is used the circulation of blood within the skin under the water is improved, the sweat pores open because of the therapeutic efiect of heat and as the suction is removed all of the waste materials and accumulations such as blackheads,
lacne and other irritations are either removed or --considerably alleviated so that theskin becomes clearer and assumes a tone of health and vigor.
By altematepressing of the spray heads 20 andfl with sufficient force against'the body, the
stream of water will be' forced through the per- :Iorationsill in the other spray head since the flow in the perforations "on the spray head in contact with the body. will be diminished or completely shut off depending on the amount of force .to. the spray head and on the part of the. body to which the spray headis applied.
Itisapparent that the materials usedin; my
massaging device can vary considerably :and can be made from metal, plastic, rubber, etc; I prefer to use rubber since it is admirably suited in its characteristics as the ideal material.
- Though the embodimentof my invention as comprising a hose, a means on one end of said hose to attach it to a source of supply of fluid, the
other end of said hose terminating in a bifurcated assembly of. at least two therapeutic heads, each of the said heads comprising a plate, a means to spray water through said plate, and a suction cup attached to central portion of the plate of the said means to spray water, the said suction cup protruding beyond the said plate whereby suction and fluid spray can be applied simultaneously to different adjacent areas of the body. i
2. In the product of claim 1, perforationsfor .fiuid exit inthe said spray plate that are disposed about the said suction cup. I
3. A therapeutic -massaging spray headcomprising a. means for'ingress-of water to. the spray head, a, spray head attached to said means for ingress of water, a flat plate .attachedtc said head, a, suction .cup on the saidplate protruding therefrom, and perforations in said plate for egress of water about the outside edge of said suction cup.
