4 Claims. (Cl. 240-13) My invention relates to candle lamps particularly for, though not necessarily limited to, use upon tables, mantles or thel like.

An object of the invention is to provide a candle lamp having a mechanical structure which in no way will affect the pleasing appearance of rsuch lamp.

Another object of theinvention is to provide a candle lamp having a construction which will meet the usual and conventional requirements of fire ordinances.

Another object of the invention is to provide a candle lamp which is simple in construction and economical in manufacture.

Yet another object of the invention is to provide a candle lamp with improved means for detachably connecting the shade to the base of the lamp.

Yet another object of the invention is to provide a candle lamp with improved means forV detachably connecting the candle receiving and supporting tube to the base of the lamp and within the shade thereof.

Other objects will appear hereinafter.

, The invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings .showingthe preferred form of construction, and in which:

The several objects of my invention are preferably accomplished by the preferred form of construction shown in the accompanying drawings. In such drawings, 10 indicates a base of hollow construction comprising a bottom Wall 11 and a side wall 12. An attaching bar 13 is arranged within the base 10 (Fig. 2). The base further includes a substantially flat horizontal top wall 14 preferably, though not necessarily, of a diameter less than that of the bottom wall 11. The base may be of any desired form or configuration. The top wall 14 provides a centrally located opening 15. Secured to the top wall 14 by spot Welding or the ilke is the bottom wall 16 of a cup 17. The cup 17 provides a centrally located opening 18 in substantial registration with the opening 15. The top edge 19 of the cup 17 is rolled to provide a supporting bead or the like. Projecting into the base is a socket 20, the bottom of which is connected by means of a bolt 21 to the bar 13. The open end of the socket provides a lateral annular flange 22 arl 2,117,306 Patented Sept. 6, 1955 ICC ranged between the bottom wall of the cup, 16, and the top wall 14 of the base 10, thus providing a simple and inexpensive arrangement for connecting the socket 20 in position upon the base.

A lamp shade is indicated at 24 and has an end portion projected'into thecup 17. The shade V24 provides an annular bead 25 which normally rests upon the bead 19 of the cup 17. In the end vportion of the ,shade- 24 which is projected vinto the `cup 17, there is provided a circumferential exterior groove 26. Y

Secured to the bottom wall 16of the cup 17 on the interior thereof, are lingers 27. This connection may be by means of spot welding or the like. 'Ihese fingers are radially disposed between the cup and are substantially L-shaped to provide vvertically extending portions 28.disposed between the side walls of the cup 17 and the end portions of the shade 24. These vertical portions of the fingers 27 are bowed as at 29, and the bowed portions yieldably engage in the groove 26 to yieldably connect the shade within the cup 17 and to prevent its accidental removal therefrom.

The end of the shade 24 has its edge bevelled as at 30 to facilitate passage of such edge portion over the bowed portions 29 of the fingers 27.

To complete the candle lamp,'there is provided a candle holding tube 31 of a conventional and standard construction and Within which a candle 32 is removably mounted with its wick portion 33 exposed through an opening formed in a removable cap 34. The lower end of the tube 31 has an Vopening 35. and arranged within such lower end portion is a projecting spring 36 normally compressedwhen Athe candle 32 is mounted in the tube. Attached to the bottom wal1g37 ofthe socket 20 by means of the nut and bolt 21 isa spring wire 38 bent to provide parallel end portions 39 over which the nut of the bolt 21 is positioned. From these end portions 3 9 the wire is bent upwardly to provide a crown 40 having oppositely disposedbody portionsr 41` which,` when projected through the opening 35, yieldably engageadjacent convolutions 42 of the projecting lspring 36.

In the form shown in Figs. 5 and 6, a spring wireis bent to provide oppositely disposed end portions 43 bowed for engagement with adjacent convolutions 42 ofV the spring 36. The medial portion of the wire length is formed to provide laterally projecting portions 44 over which the nut of the nut and bolt assembly 21 is positioned.

The foregoing construction results in a candle holder lamp in which the shade as well as the candle carrying tube are firmly yet removably mounted in place, thus preventing their kaccidental removal should the lamp be accidentally tipped over. The construction is simple and permits economical manufacture. Such construction also allows removal of both the shade and the candle receiving tube with the minimum amount of effort.

While I have illustrated and described thel preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:

1. A candle lamp comprising a hollow base plate having a relatively flat top surface provided with an opening, a shade receiving cup mounted on said surface and having an opening in registration with the opening of said top surface, a socket carried by the top surface within the opening thereof and in registration with the opening of said cup and depending into said base, a shade removably mounted in said cup, spring means for detachably connecting said shade in said cup, said shade provided with an annular bead for limiting insertion of said shade within said cup and for positioning said shade in a predetermined relation with respect to said spring means whereby said shade is detachably connected to said cup, a candle holder within said shade andcomprisinga tube, one end of which is projected into said socket, and having an opening in the end thereof, a candle engaging spring in said tube, and a spring member connected to the bottom wall of the socket and having body portions projecting into the open end of said tube for yieldable engagement with the adjacent convolutions of said candle engaging spring to detachably connect the tube to said socket.

A candle lamp comprising a hollow base plate having a relatively flat top surface provided with an opening, a shade receiving cup mounted on said surface and having an opening in registration with the opening of said top surface, a socket carried by the top surface Within the opening thereof and in registration with the opening of said cup and depending into said base, a shade removably mounted in said cup and having an annular groove formed in the end thereof projecting into said cup, spring fingers carried by said cup and having body portions yieldably engaging in said grooves for detachably connecting said shade to said cup, said shade provided with an annular bead in spaced relation to said grooves with said bead engageable with said cup to position said grooves within said cup in finger engaging position, a removable candle holder within said shade and comprising a tube, one end of which is projected into said socket and having an opening in the end thereof, a candle engaging spring in said tube, and a spring member connected to the bottom wall of the socket and having body portions projecting into the open end of said tube for yieldable engagement with the adjacent convolutions of said candle engaging spring to detachably connect the tube to said socket. 3. A candle lamp comprising a base having a top surface provided with a centrally located opening, a shade receiving cup mounted on and connected to said top surface and having an opening in registration with the opening of said Atop surface, a socket having at its open end an annular flange disposed between the bottom walls of said cup and the top surface in registration with said openings and projecting into said base, a removable candle holding tube having an open end portion projected into said socket and including a candle projecting spring arranged in the tube and a spring member iixedly mounted in said socket and having arm portions extending up- Wardly and projecting into the open end of said tube into the adjacent end of said projecting spring and body for yieldable engagement with adjacent oonvolutions of said projecting spring, for detachably securing said projecting spring relative to said tube and said tube relative to said socket. 4. A candle lamp comprising a base having "a top surface provided with a centrally located opening, a shade receiving cup mounted on and connected to said top surface and having an opening in registration with the opening of said top surface, a socket arranged in the base through said openings and carried by said top wall, a removable candle holding tube having an open end portion projected into said socket and including a candle projecting spring arranged in the tube and a spring member xedly mounted in said socket and having arm portions extending upwardly and projecting into the open end of said'tube intox-the adjacent end of said projecting spring and body for yieldable engagement with adjacent convolutions of said yprojecting spring, for detachably securing said projecting spring relative to said tube and said tube relative to said socket.
