1 Claim. (Cl. 128-208) This invention relates to mouth inhalers and provides more particularly an inhaler simulative of a cigarette holder and cigarette which may contain any of various inhalent or aromatic substances, and which in addition to providing beneficial elfects which customarily are attributable to use of conventional inhalers, may serve as a means of overcoming or curbing the cigarette-smoking habit.

It is among the objects of the invention to provide a mouth inhaler comprising a generally hollow simulated cigarette which may be placed and held in the mouth in the same manner that a cigarette is held, and be drawn upon as a substitute for a cigarette when the user feels an urge to smoke, the said simulated cigarette containing a substance which provides remedial and/or pleasant effects when air is drawn through the inhaler.

Another object of the invention is to provide a mouth inhaler wherein a mouth piece holds a generally hollow simulated cigarette which contains an inhalent or other aromatic substance for providing remedial and/ or pleasant effects when air is drawn through the inhaler into the mouth of the user.

Yet another object of the invention is to provide a mouth inhaler wherein a mouth piece is adapted to hold any of a plurality of generally hollow simulated cigarettes each of which may contain a different inhalent or aromatic substance for selective combining with the mouthpiece, said inhaler to be held in the mouth and drawn upon as a substitute for a cigarette when the user feels an urge to smoke.

It is, moreover, my purpose and object generally to improve the structure and effectiveness of mouth inhalers and especially inhalers designed to serve as substitutes for cigarettes in overcoming or curbing the cigarette-smoking habit.

Fig. 3 is a medial cross-sectional view of a modified form of mouth inhaler embodying features of the invention.

Referring to Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing, a mouth piece 10, of any suitable material, has the general form of a conventional cigarette holder and may be as long or as short as desired. A draw hole 12 extends axially through the mouth piece and opens into a chamber 14 at one end of the piece. A simulated cigarette 16, which may be white or colored has one end portion mounted in the chambered end of mouthpiece and the main body of the simulated cigarette projects in the manner that a regular cigarette projects from a holder. However, the simulated cigarette is a rigid tube of any suitable material with its outer end preferably closed excepting that a relatively small hole 18 extends through it.

Within the hollow of the tubular simulated cigarette 16 is a quantity of a substance 20 having remedial and/ or aromatic properties which are given 01f into air being 2,721,551 Patented Oct. 25, 1955 drawn through the simulated cigarette and mouth piece into the mouth of the user of the inhaler.

In the embodiment of Figs. 1 and 2, the substance is contained within a small-diameter tube 22 of glass, or the like, whose inner end portion is reduced and tapered at 24 for engaging in a complementary tapering portion of the draw hole 12 in the mouth piece 10. Tape 26, or the like, may be provided exteriorly of the tapering portion of the glass tube 22 for efiecting a frictional holding of the tube 22 in the mouthpiece 10 when the tube is thrust or pressed into the draw hole 12. Preferably, the glass tube 22 will have length for extending a substantial distance within the hollow of the simulated cigarette 16 when the latter is mounted on the mouth piece 10. It should be understood, however, that the inhalent substance 20 may be otherwise held within the simulated cigarette or within the chambered portion of the mouthpiece, and that the substance 20 may be paste or solid, or may be a liquid on a fibrous or other carrier material such as cotton, for example. Camphor or menthol or any other well known inhalent may be employed for the substance 20, or any of various aromatic substances may be employed. Actually, the variety of the substance 20 may be changed from time to time to attain any of a variety of effects.

It is not essential that a mouthpiece be employed inasmuch as an end of a simulated cigarette 16, as represented in Fig. 3, may be inserted in the mouth and be directly drawn upon in accordance with the teachings of the invention. In this Fig. 3 embodiment, the outer end portion 16a of the simulated cigarette may be removable for insertion of the substance 20 which, in Fig. 3, is represented as a wad of cotton or the like saturated with the inhalent or aromatic substance. The mouth end of the simulated cigarette 16 may be closed excepting for a small hole 17, and a relatively resilient exterior band 19, or a cork tip, may be provided if desired.

It will be apparent from the foregoing description that the mouth inhaler of the invention may be used with well known remedial effects which result from use of conventional inhalers. However, the disclosed inhaler has a particular utility as a substitute for a cigarette when one has the urge to smoke. Hence, the invention constitutes a practical and effective implement as an aid in overcoming or curbing the cigarette-smoking habits.

The drawings represent operative embodiments of the invention which are illustrative rather than restrictive and various changes and modifications may be made within the scope of the appended claim. It is intended that the patent shall cover, by suitable expression in the appended claim, whatever features of patentable novelty exist in the invention disclosed.

I claim as my invention:

A mouth inhaler comprising a mouth piece, simulative of a cigarette holder, having an axial passage extending through it from end to end, one end portion of said passage being enlarged to provide a cylindrical end chamber having generally smooth interior wall surfaces, another portion of said passage adjacent to and opening through the bottom wall of said end chamber having gradually increasing diameter in direction toward said end chamber thereby to provide a tapering passage portion whose larger diameter end opens into said end chamber, a relatively small diameter tube of transparent rigid material having an end portion tapered and thrust axially into said tapering portion of said passage and maintained therein, removably, by friction, a larger diameter tube of opaque material having substantially uniform exterior diameter from end to end thereof, said larger diameter tube having an end portion thereof thrust axially into said end chamber of said mouth piece and maintained therein removably, by friction, in surrounding spaced relation to said relatively small diameter tube,
