Description

UNTTED STATES PATENT oEEroE.
LEWIS L. REYNOLDS, OF MANCHESTER, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
WIND OV7-SCREEN.
Specication of Letters Patent No. 27,473, dated March 13, 1860.
T o all 'whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEWIS L. REYNOLDS, of Manchester, in the county of Hillsboro, in the State of New Hampshire, have invented a new and Improved VindoW-Screen 5 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and eXact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, of which- Figure l is an elevation of a window with the screen applied thereto, and Fig. 2 a view of the rods which support the screen in place.
The nature of my invention consists in combining, and arranging with a window frame, rods C, O, in Such a manner, that they serve the purpose of holding a mosquito window screen in said window by the pressure of their ends against the sides of the `Window frame, and also allow the screen to be rolled up thereon, to suit the varying heights to which the window is desired to be raised.
Description: A represents an ordinary window frame with the screen B applied thereto. 'Ihe screen B (made of the ordinary material for that purpose) is provided with rods O at its top or bottom, or both, said rods being constructed with a sliding pin D in one of their ends, and a spiral spring E interposed between the head of Said pin and the end of rod C, for the purpose of pressing said pin outward and against the sides of the window frame, with sucient force to retain said rod and the screen in, at any point in the window frame desired. 'Io roll up or unroll the screen B, all that is required is to withdraw the top rod C from the window frame, A, and roll up, or unroll said screen to the extent that is required to correspond to the opening of the window.
I am aware that window screens have been so constructed that they may be rolled up, therefore I do not broadly claim such.
VVhat I claim is- The combination, and arrangement, of the frame A, with the rods O, O, the pin D, and the spring E, substantially as, and for the purpose set forth.
LEWIS L. REYNOLDS.
