SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 278,192, dated May 22,1883;

Application filed January 3, 1883. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it-known that I, THOMAS L. STANWOOD, ot'Brunswick,in the county ofGumberland and State of Maine, have invented a new and Improved Box-Opener, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention consists in an improved tool especially intended for use in opening or removing covers from boxes.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying .drawings,forming partof this specification,in

which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.

Figure 1 is a side view, and Fig. 2 an end view, of my improved tool.

The tool consists of two handles, A A, piv oted together at a in the form of a pair of tongs, the outer ends or jaw portions, B B, beingcnrved inward toward each other and made of wedge form or shape at the ends b b. The ends are also formed with nicks 0, so allow of the wedges passing at each side of a nail.

To open a box with this tool, the handles are farther. This may be done around the entire top of the box, and the cover thus readily removed.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

Abox-opening tool whose cross-pivoted handles are provided with curved meeting ends drawn to a wedge shape and V-slotted across their edges, substantially as shown. and described.
