3 Claims. (Cl. 45-57) This invention relates to television lamps, and more particularly to a combination television lamp and program book holder.
A main object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved combination television lamp and program book holder which is simple in construction, which is attractive in appearance, and which serves as a means for illuminating a television program book or similar article, and which also serves as a television lamp designed to furnish the comfortable amount of light necessary and desirable for the enjoyment of television viewing without eye strain.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved combination television lamp and program book holder which is inexpensive to manufacture, which is sturdy in construction, and which is easily adjustable so that the base member thereof on which the program book or similar article rests may be elevated to a desired viewing angle.
Further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description and claims, and from the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure l is a perspective view of an illuminating holder for a television program book, or the like, constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a transverse vertical cross sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a vertical cross sectional view taken on the line 33 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is an enlarged cross sectional detail view taken on the line 44 of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawings, 11 generally designates a combination television lamp and illuminating holder for a television program book or the like, the device 11 comprising a plate-like base member 12 which is generally rectangular in shape and which is provided with the depending side flanges 13, 13. The flanges 13 are extended forwardly, as shown at 14, and receive therebetween an adjustable supporting assembly comprising a pair of legs 15, 15 rigidly secured to the opposite ends of a rod member 16, respectively clamping screws 17 being threadedly engaged in the opposite ends of the rod member 16 and being formed with clamping shoulders 18, as shown in Figure 4. The screws 17 extend through the forwardly extended portions 14 of the side flanges and through the upper portions of the legs 15 into the end portions of the rod 16, and when tightened, lock the legs 15 in angularly adjusted positions with respect to the base member 12, whereby the base member is supported in a desired rearwardly and upwardly inclined position.
As shown in Figures 1 and 2, the legs 15 are of rightangular cross sectional shape and are provided at their lower ends with the resilient deformable feet 19, of rubber, or the like, adapted to engage an underlying surface, such as the top of a television'cabinet, without marring said surface.
The base member 12 is formed at its forward edge with 2 a depending flange element 25, for stiffening the forward portion of the base member, said flange 20 depending between the top portions of the legs 15, 15, as is clearly shown in Figures 1 and 2. The top portions of the rear flanges 21 of legs 15 terminate a substantial distance from the top ends of legs 15, as shown at 22, allowing the legs 15 to be folded beneath the base member 12, if so desired.
The base member 12 is formed at its forward edge with the upstanding flange 23 which serves as a rest for a television program book, or similar article, shown in dotted view at 24, supported on the base member 12.
Designated at 25 is a rod member of any suitable rigid material, said rod member being of circular cross sectional shape and being notched at its ends, as shown at 26, to receive the lower forward end portions of the flanges 13, said lower forward portions of said flanges being suitably secured, in any suitable manner, as by the use of a suitable cement, in the notches 26.
Engaged around the rod member 25 inwardly adjacent the respective flanges 13, 13 are respective bands 27, 27 of resilient deformable material, serving as supporting feet to engage the underlying surface, such as the top of a television cabinet, without marring said underlying surface.
Designated at 28 is an upstanding concave reflector provided at its ends with the respective side wall 29 and 30 and receiving the forward portion of the base member 12 between the lower portions of said end walls 29, 30. The lower portions of the end walls 29 and 30 are rigidly secured to the flanges 13, 13, as by the fastening screws 31, 31, at each side wall, whereby the reflector 28 is rigidly fastened to the forward end of the base member 12 in an upstanding position, as shown in Figure 2. The top end of the reflector 28 is formed with the arcuately curved concave portion 34 which faces the base member 12. Mounted on the top portion of the wall 30 substantially coaxially with the arcuately curved portion 34 is a lamp socket 35 in which is mounted an elongated tubular lamp 36. Also mounted on the wall 30 is a control switch 37, the socket 35 being connected through said switch 37 to a line cord 38 provided with a suitable plug, not shown, for connecting said line cord to a domestic electrical power receptacle.
Designated at 39 is a generally rectangular lens of similar shape to the base member 12 and substantially coextensive in area therewith, the lens being secured between a pair of angle bars 40, 40 located adjacent to the side flanges 13, 13 of base member 12 and being substantially coextensive therewith. The forward ends of the angle bars 40, 40 are formed with extensions 41 which are located inwardly adjacent to and are pivotally connected to the respective reflector end walls 29 and 30, as by pivot screws 42. At their rear ends the angle bars 40 are provided with depending spacer studs 43 which engage the rear corner portions of the base member 12 and which support the lens 39 in spaced parallel relationship to the base member 12, providing clearance between the lens and the base member to receive :a program book 24, or similar article.
The inside surface of the reflector 28 is preferably highly polished so that the light from lamp 36 will be reflected onto the program book 24, or similar article, through the lens 39, and whereby the program book 24 or similar article, will be properly illuminated so as to be easily read by a person standing in\ front of the device. The device is preferably supported on the top of a television cabinet, or on any other suitable supporting object, and the inclination of the base member 12 is adjusted by adjusting the position of the rear supporting legs 15, 15, as above described, to suit the requirements of the user. To insert a program book 24, or similar article in the device, the lens 39 is simply lifted, whereby the article may be placed on the base member 12, after which the lens 39 is lowered so that the studs 43, 43 engage the base member 12, holding the book 24 or similar article flat against the base member 12, as well as providing a substantial amount of magnification for facilitating the reading of the program book or similar article. The reflector 28 serves as a baflle member, shielding the television viewers from the direct light of the lamp 36, but allowing the program book 24 or similar article, to be easily read, when desired, by any person standing in front of t e device- 7 While a specific embodiment of an improved illuminating holder for a television program book or the like and television larnp has been disclosed in the foregoing description, it will be understood that various modifications within the spirit oi the invention may occur to. those skilled in the art. 1. A combination illuminating holder for a television program book or the like and television lamp comprising a plate-like base member, depending support means at the rear margin of said base member to support said base member in a rearwardly and upwardly inclined position, an upstanding concave reflector secured to the torward margin of said base member, said reflector rising a substantial distance above said base member and opening toward said base member, means for mounting a lamp bulb in the upper portion of said reflector, and a lens hingedly connected to the lower portions of said reflector and being formed and arranged to overlie said base member and to be disposed over a program book or similar article supported on said base member.
2. A combination illuminating holder for a television program book or the like and television lamp, comprising a plate-like base member, depending support means at the rear margin of said base member to support said base member in a rearwardly and upwardly inclined position, an upstanding reflector secured to the forward margin of said base member, said reflector rising a substantial distance above said base member, said reflector having an arcuately curved concave trough at its top opening toward said base member, means for mounting a lamp bulb in said trough, a lens hingedly connected to the lower portion of said reflector and being formed and arranged to overlie said base member and to be disposed over a program book or similar article supported on said base member, and depending spacer means on the marginal portion of said lens engageable with said base member to define clearance between the lens and said base member to receive a program book.
3. A combination illuminating holder for a television program book or the like and television lamp comprising a plate-like base member, depending support means pivoted to the rear margin of said base member to at times support said base member in a rearwardly and upwardly inclined position, means clampingly securing said support means in depending position, an upstanding reflector secured to the forward margin of said base member, said reflector rising a substantial distance above said base member and having an arcuately curved concave trough portion at its top end opening toward said base member, means for mounting a tubular lamp. bulb in said trough portion in a position above and parallel to said forward margin of the base member, a generally rectangular lens hingedly connected, to the lower portion of said reflector and being formed and arranged to overlie said base member and to be disposed over a program book supported on said base member, and depending spacer lugsfon the rear corner portions of said lens engageable with said base member to define clearance between the lens and said base member to receive a program book or similar article.
