' SNOW PLOW Filed Sept. 13, 1954 Y GUSTAV B. ABRAHAMS WWW ATTORNEY United States Patent SNOW PLOW Gustav B. Abrahams, Amity, Oreg.
Application September 13, 1954, Serial No. 455,397
1 Claim. (CI. 3753) This invention relates to snow plows, but more specifically to a structure of this kind that is constructed of two pieces of sheet metal, each of which is cut to predetermined dimensions, shaped to conform with the requirements of such a device and subsequently Welded together in order that it may properly function, when manually operated by means of a handle which is attached thereto.
The salient feature of the embodiment of this invention is the arrangement and design of the side wings which are rectangular with the center board, but are shorter than the shares to allow the accumulated snow to be released as it contacts said shares, thus rolling it upwardly into side banks to form a clear pathway in front of the center board.
One object of the disclosed embodiment is to facilitate the work of removing snow from any given area in a minimum of time with slight effort, and further,
To provide a structure of this kind that lifts the snow from the surface on which it is accumulated to the upper surface of the center board from whence it is forced upwardly above the right and left wings toward the plowshare where it is gradually rolled outwardly to form embankments to rear of said wings, and again,
To provide a snow plow that is simple in construction, inexpensive in production and easy to manipulate.
Other objects and advantages of the structure will be come apparent in the following specification and appended claim which taken in connection with the accompanying drawing forms part of this application: of which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the completed snow plow;
Figure 2 is a fragmentary longitudinal section of same, showing a side elevation of the handle and right wing, and
Figure 3 is partial plan view of same, looking from line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Now with more detailed reference to the drawing, the numeral 2 indicates the centerboard to which are integrally attached upwardly disposed arcuate wings 3 and 4, while plow shares 5 and 6 are also formed integral with the center board.
2,895,237. Fatented July 21, 1959 A shank 7 to receive one end of handle 8 is also formed on the single sheet of metal from which the center board is fabricated; said handle being attached to said shank by screw 9.
While the complete structure has been described as an ensemble, the embodiment is originally made in two pieces and welded together at median line M, while the rear end of the device is substantially arcuate in configuration as shown in Figure 1.
In order to operate the illustrated and described embodiment of this invention, the operator pushes the snow plow forward by means of handle 8, thus lifting the snow onto center board 2 and forcing it toward the rear until a sufiicient quantity is gathered up intermediate wings 3 and 4 to force it vertically past the lower edges of plow shares 5 and 6 where it tends to curl downwardly and pass outwardly to the right and left sides of the snow plow through spaces S formed intermediate the wings and plow shares forming banks as the snow exhausts through said spaces.
While this invention has been described in detail and with specific illustrations, it is understood that other modifications in construction and arrangements of parts may be devised without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. The present embodiment is illustrative but not restrictive, since the scope and purview of the invention is indicated by the appended claims rather than by the foregoing description.
Having thus fully illustrated and described an embodiment of the invention and a method of producing the same, in a manner that may enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to construct and use the same, what is claimed and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is:
An article of manufacture in the manually operable snow plow class, comprising a flat center board having longitudinally extending lateral edges and a pair of arcuate outwardly and rearwardly diverging rear edges, a pair of vertically disposed wings integral with the forward portions of said lateral edges, an upstanding plow share integrally formed with the central portion of said center board intermediate said lateral edges with said plow share including a pair of rearwardly and outwardly diverging members secured to said arcuate rear edges, and an integral shank extending between and connecting the forward portions of said plow shaft members to form a handle receiving socket.
