United States Patent O ASH RECEPTACLE Arthur J. Carter, Mamaroneck, N.Y.
Application July 24, 1957, Serial No. 673,907
1 Claim. (Cl. 224-28) The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in ash receptacles particularly for cigarette and cigar smokers, and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, ian article of this character which is adapted to be comfortably worn on the inner side of either wrist in position for convenient use at all times.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a wrist supported ash receptacle of the aforementioned char- `acter which will be comparatively simple in construction, durable, compact, of lightweight, attractive in appearance and which may be manufactured at low cost.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view, showing an ash receptacle embodying the present invention in position on a wrist with the hinged cover open;
Figure 2 is an enlarged view in vertical section through the device; and
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional View through the receptacle or container, taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the present invention which has been illustrated comprises a substantially pentagonal container or receptacle of suitable metal which is designated generally by reference character 4. The container 4, which may be of any desired dimensions, comprises a hinged closure or top 5 for an open upper end of the container. A suitable latch 6 releasably secures the cover 5 in closed position on the container 4.
Rigidly secured longitudinally by rivets 7 on the back 8 of the container 4 is a substantially C-shaped clip or clamp 9 of suitable resilient metal and from which the open end and closure extend transversely of the clip.
2,903,172 Patented Sept. 8, 1959 ICC The clip 9 is for removably mounting the device on the wrist of the user, as indicated at 10. The clip 9 is provided with a covering 11 of leather or other suitable material for preventing or reducing the transmission of heat to the Wrist from the container 4.
It is thought that the use of the invention will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. Briey, the resilient clip 9 is sprung on the users wrist 10 from the front thereof. The construction and arrangement is such that the container 4 is mounted on the front side of the wrist adjacent the palm side of the hand with the top of lsaid container always uppermost for easy access to the clos-ure 5. With the other hand the user opens the hinged closure 5, deposits the ashes in the container 4 and yagain closes said closure. Of course, the container 4 may be colored or ornamented as desired, Other types of fasteners may be substituted for the clip 9.
The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
An ash receptacle comprising a C-clip of resilient metal for attachment on a wrist and having a flat back portion, an ash container having an ash receiving upper end and provided with a closure and also having a flat back confronting the back portion of the clip, fasteners extending through the back of the container and the back portion of the clip and securing said clip and container together, and an insulation covering of soft material on said clip enclosing the same internally and externally and extending externally of the clip between the back portion of the clip and the back of the container and also extending internally of the clip over said fasteners to prevent heat from hot ashes in the container from passing through the back portion of the clip to a wrist.
