1 Claim. (Cl. 12S- 479) This invention relates to brassieres, and more particularly to a brassiere particularly constructed to receive padded forms to be worn by women who have had one, or both breasts removed surgically.

Several types of surgical brassieres are available on the market but, all fail to present a comfortable wear and natural looking padded brassiere.

The two main disadvantages with present day surgical brassiere is that in one instant the padded cups are not removable which makes the brassiere diiicult to wash. The second disadvantage is that due to the particular construction of a padded brassiere insucient elastic is used, and the garment becomes uncomfortable.

The construction of the garment herein disclosed eliminates both of the above objections, and provides a brassiere which is comfortable and gives a natural appearance to the breast.

Broadly, the invention comprises a brassiere of conventional appearance provided with elastic inserts between the breast cups on each side of said cups, and at the extremity of one of the back bands.

The primary object of the invention is therefore a surgical hrassiere provided with one or two padded cups readily removable for washing purposes and elastic nserts to provide the necessary expansion of the garment when breathing.

With these and other objects in view that may appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel construction of the garment as hereinafter more specically set forth, claimed and shown in the accompanying drawing forming part of this application and in which:

-Figure 1 is `a rear, or an inner elevational view of a brassiere constructed in 4accordance with the present invention;

Figure 2 is a front view of a surgical brassiere provided With a cup pocket for the left breast;

Figure 3 is ya view similar to Figure 2 for the right breast, and

Figure 4 shows a brassiere provided with two cups and -is adapted to be worn by women who have had both breasts removed.

Referring more in detail to the drawing in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, it will be seen the invention comprises a surgical brassiere with breasts shields 5 and 6 respectively disposed equi-distance from the center of the garment, and a V-shaped elastic insert 7 disposed between said shields. At each outer extremity of said shields an elastic insert 8 and 9 is sewn in position to which is secured ya band of fabric 10 and 11 which constitutes the back band. Near the free extremity of the band 11 is positioned a further elastic insert 12 and `a conventional fastening means 13 for which no claim is made. Each shoulder strap 14 and 15 is also provided with elastic portions to facilitate the expansion of the garment when `the wearer is breathing.

Each breast shield 5 and 6 is provided with a pocket 16 closed by a lightening fastener 17 within which is disposed a pad to simulate a breast. When it is necessary to wash the garment the breast pad is removed from the pocket.

As shown in Figure 4 of the accompanying drawing, the garment is designed for a person having had both breasts removed but, garments as illustrated in Figures 2 and 3 are for persons having only one breast removed.

It is believed that the construction and advantages have been fully set forth and that further detailed description is not required.

While the preferred embodiment has been disclosed it `is to he understood that minor modifications may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention.

The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows.

I claim:

A surgical brassiere comprising a band of cloth having breast pockets formed therein, separable fasteners closing said pockets, pads removably fitted in said pockets, an inverted V-shaped elastic gore in the lower edge of said band and midway between the breast pockets, elastic strips at each end of said band, straps extending from said elastic strips to form back straps, one of said straps having an elastic portion at its free end, fastening means for securing the free ends of said straps together, and shoulder straps extending from the upper edge of said band, each of said shoulder straps having an elastic insert.
