UNTTED STATES PATENT Tries.
FRANK A. KNOX, OF WOODLAND, CALIFORNIA.
KEY-TAG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 297,270, dated April 22, 1884.
Application filed August 27, fees. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK A. KNOX, of Woodland, county of Yolo, and State of California, have invented an Improvement in Key- Tags 5 and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to anew and useful keytag for use-in hotels, boarding and lodging houses, and in other public places-such as bath-houses, &c..-where the keys are constantly used by the general public.
My invention consists in adouble tag so combined and arranged that one side shall carry one advertising-card and the other side the other card, and when fitted together shall present said cards on the obverse and reverse sides. It consists, also, in the means for securing the two parts together, all of which I shall hereinafter fully describe.
The object of my invention is to provide a key-tag suitable for containingcards or other.
ornamental or plain, having an .open center.
On one side of this plate its edges are turned over to form flanged guides to on the two side edges and the bottom, though not at the top, which is left plain for the purpose of inserting a card, 13. This card fits down within the guides a, and its inscription, of whatever character, is exhibited through the open center of the plate upon the obverse side of the tag. (See Fig. 2.) Thehead of this plate is provided with a hole, I), and another, 0, above it, in which is fitted the link 0, which connects (See Fig. 1.)
E is another plate, of dimensions suitable to fit within the guides of the plate A. Its upper edge is turned over to form guides e on each side of the center, which projects to form flexibletongue F. (SeeFig. 5.) Asecond card,G, is placed upon the outer face of plate E, fitting its upper edge under its guides e. The plate E,
with its card G, is fitted down into the guides at of plate A until the tongue F is in such relation to the hole I) as to be bent back and through said hole, whereby said plate E is secured in place. (See Figs. 1 and 2.) The second card shows its inscription on the reverse side of the tag, and is held in place by the guides a of the tion, though when the tag is used for hotel or boarding-house keys, I would prefer placing the card of the establishmentupon one side and that of some business-house orperson or persons desiring such advertisement upon the other side.
The connection between the key and the tag may be made in such manner by the link that one side'of the tag may have atendency to turn face outward when the key is in any certain position,as when in the lock and the door fastened on the inside, in which case I would put the business-card on that face of the tag which would be outward, in order that the roomer might have it in full View.
I am aware that key-tags are well known, and that baggage-tags and tags of other descriptions adapted to receive cards have been used. I do not claim such, broadly; but
What I do claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a tag, the plate A, havingan open center and guides at on its side edges, adapted to receive a card, the inscription of which may be exhibited through its open center on its outer side, in combination with the plate E,adapted to fit within the guides a of plate A, and to hold a second card between itself and said guides, whose inscription is exhibited on the opposite side of the tag, substantially as herein described.
2. In a tag, the plate A, having an open center and guides a on its side edges, adapted to receive a card, in combination with the plate E, having the top guides, c, said plate being adapted to fit within the guides a of plate A, ing fitted within the guides a, and adapted to and to receive a card on its outer side, under its receive a card on its outer side, nnderits guides guides c, and hold it between itself and said e,and holdit between itself and said guides,sub-
guides, substantially as herein described. stantially as herein described.
5 3. In attag, the plate A, having an open cen- 1 In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my I 5 ter and guides at on its side edges, adapted to hand. 7, receive a card, in combination with the plate FRANK A. KNOX.
