SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 297,445, dated April 22, 1884:.

I ing is a specification.
My invention provides means for locking, sealing, and labeling boxes, bags, mail-bags, produce and express packages, the doors of cars and other vehicles, and other analogous applications, the doors and windows of buildings and apartments such as can be secured by means of a hasp and staple arrangement in the manner that hasps and staples are commonly applied and used, and is designed especially to prevent the surreptitious interference with the article in their charge by employs and others who may be entrusted with the care of thesame.
The construction and arrangement of the parts of my invention are such that when once applied to its proper use and locked it cannot then be unlocked without evidence of the same being recorded on one of the parts of the invention, as will be more fully described hereinafter. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a general view of my invention, as seen in vertical projection. Fig. 2 is the same with the front half of the lock-casting removed. Fig. 3 is a View of the vertical transverse cross-section, looking in the direction a a, Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is the same section as shown in Fig. 2, wherein the staple S isrepresented in a position at right angles to the vertical plane. Fig. 5 is a view of the vertical transverse section made by passing a plane through 00 at, Fig. 1.

Having now described my invention, I will proceed to explain how it works.
We will suppose the seal-lock to be open, as shown in Fig. 4. A seal-plate of the proper dimensions is placed in the channels a n and locks the staple in position.
