Be it known that we, JUNIUs SOHENCK and BENJAMIN L. STow of Brooklyn, Kings ing is a specification.
Our invention is an improvement upon seamless multiply woven hose for fire, hydraulic, and other purposes, of the kind shown and described in Reissued Letters Patent No. 7,442, dated December 19, 1876; and it corn sists in the novel construction or combination of parts hereinafter fully set forth and claimed, whereby we enhance the capacity of this hose to resist tendency to elongation under heavy pressure, such as it is necessarily subjected to when used as fire hydraulic hose in connection with steam fire-engines.
The nature of our improvement, and the manner in which the same is or may be carried into effect, will be readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a cross-Section of our improved hose, only one-half of the tube being represented. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section on line 2 2,- Fig. 1.
In the actual web or fabric the strands are of course packed closely together. In the drawings, however, they are represented on enlarged scale, and as widely separated from one another, in order that the structure of the multiply fabric may be more plainly seen and understood. The seamless multiply tubularfabric which forms the body of the hose is in this instance a three-ply fabric, the warps and wefts of the two outer plies of which, as well as the tying-strands, are manipulated in the manner illustrated and described in Reissued Letters Patent No. 7,442. The warp strands of the outermost ply are lettered a, and the weft-strands b. The warpstrands of the intermediate or second ply are lettered c, and the weft-strands d. The tying strands,
which pass through the web from face to face, are lettered e. The inner or third ply of the web differs from the corresponding ply of the (No model.)
fabric hose described in said Reissued Letters Patent No. 7,442, in that the warp-strands 5o (lettered f) of this ply, instead of being interlocked or interwound with their weft, (lettered 9,) as in the other plies,are so manipulated as to lie straight and without material bend or corrugation between the second ply and the inner weft-threads, g, which latter are heldin position by the tying-strands e, the two being interwound or interwoven with one another in the manner described in said Reissued Letters Patent. The warp-strands f are preferably put under considerable tension during the weaving operation, so as to insure their being laid straight and without bend.
