SHOE FASTENING DEVICES Filed July 6, 1959 INVENT OR. Z3 23 5542040 /-7. 5542/ United States Patent 3,009,221 SHOE FASTENlNG DEVICES Harold A. Firari, Rte. 2, Pardeeville, Wis. Filed July 6, 1959, Ser. No. 825,282 1 Claim. (Cl. 24-71) This invention relates to improvements in shoe fastening devices, and more particularly to a novel shoe fastener of the pivot type.
An object of the invention is to provide a device of the type which will be very simple and easy to open and close.
Another object of the invention is to combine an elastic portion with the fastening device to insure comfort to the wearer.
Another object of the invention is to procure a device which will have interchangeable ornamental top members.
Other and further objects of the invention will appear as the description proceeds, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIG. 1 is a view in perspective of a shoe fastening device embodying the invention in closed position.
FIG. 2. is a similar view of the device in closed position.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral refers to the device generally, designed to fasten a shoe 11 of the oxford or low shoe style.
An elastic element or band 12 is fastened as by sewing to the edge 13 of the side portion 14 of the shoe 1 1, and a U-shaped rod element 15 is engaged therein by its end portions 16 and 17. The transverse portion '18 of the U-shaped element 15 is journaled in a sleeve '19 integral with a rib 20 which supports an interchangeable ornamental cover plate 21, which latter has a rib, T- shaped in cross-section, 22 which enters the recess at 23 in the rib 20 with a driving fit. A plate 24 is attached Patented Nov. 21, 1961 "ice by suitable :means 25 to the shoe 11, and carries the bearings 26 provided with the pivot pin 27 which secures the rib 20 pivotally.
In use, the plate 21 is raised vertically to loosen the elastic band 12 thus enabling a wearer to insert his foot into the shoe 1d. The plate is then pressed downwardly until the sleeve 19 passes the dead center of the pin 27. In this position the pull of the elastic band 12 will secure the plate 21 against accidental displacement, and will retain the shoe in closed position without discomfort to the wearer.
It will be understood that the device is capable of many modifications in structure and design, without departing from the spirit of the invention, within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed and desired to be secured by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
A shoe fastening device comprising an elastic band for attachment to one side of the upper of a shoe, a plate for attachment to the opposite side of said upper, a pair of hearings on said plate, a pivot pin therein, a curved member pivoted thereon, a face plate carried on said curved member, a sleeve adjacent the free end of the curved member, and a U-shaped rod member having hooked ends and being fixed by its hooked ends in the elastic band with the cross member thereof journaled in said sleeve.
