(Cl. 296-3) This invention relates to cartridge receptacles, and more particularly to a cartridge case adapted to hold a pair of clip devices, each clip device holding a plurality of cartridges in the proper spaced positions for inserting same into the chambers of the cylinder of a revolver.
A main object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved carrying case for cartridge clips, the carrying case being relatively simple in construction, being compact in size, and being readily accessible whenever the clips contained therein are to be employed for reloading a revolver.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved carrying receptacle for a plurality of cartridge clip devices employed for inserting cartridges into the chambers of the cylinder of a revolver, the carrying receptacle being relatively inexpensive to fabricate, being durable in construction, being provided with means for properly supporting the cartridges so as to prevent them from becoming loosened from their associated clips, and providing complete protection of the cartridges against loss or mechanical damage.
Further obiects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description and claims, and from the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Referring to the drawings, 1ft generally designates a complete assembly comprising a receptacle and a pair of cartridge clips according to the present invention. The receptacle is generally designated at 12 and comprises a rectangular container made of leather or other suitable material, said container being provided with the top cover flap 13 having a depending fastening portion 14 provided with a female snap fastener element 115 which is lockingly engageable with a male snap fastener element in secured on the front wall 17 of the generally rectangular container 12. Secured to the rear wall 18 of the container 12. is a supporting loop it? of leather or other suitable flexible material which is vertically slotted, as shown at 2%, 2th for engagement with the users belt.
Slidably mounted in the generally rectangular container i2 is a generally U-shaped supporting member 21 formed with the depending vertical walls 22 and 23 and with the horizontal top wall 24, the supporting member 21 being of substantially rigid construction so that the bottom edges of the front and rear walls 22 and 23 will engage the bottom wall 25 of the main container 12 to support the U-shaped member 21 in the position thereof illustrated in FIGURES 4 and 5. Thus, as shown in FIGURES 4 and 5, the top Wall 24 is positioned horizontally in the upper portion of the receptacle 21.
The top wall 24 of the supporting member 21 is formed with a pair of generally rectangular apertures 26, 26 for a purpose presently to be described.
The apertures 26, 26 are adapted to supportingly receive the depending portions of each of two groups of three depending cartridges 27 carried by respective loading devices 28. Each loading device 23 comprises a rigid body having a horizontal top wall 29 and a depending concave flange portion 36 the top wall being generally triangular in configuration and said flange portion following the contour of the edge of said top wall, except that the flange is open at the straight side edge 31 of the top wall as shown in FIGURE 7.
The concave flange portion 30 is formed with three arcuate recesses facing the open side of the clip body, as shown in FIGURE 7, the recesses being contoured to generally correspond with the arcuately curved contours of the inside portions of three cartridges 27 so that the cartridges will be received in the generally arcuate recesses and will underlie the top wall 29, being receivable just within the vertical plane of the side edge 31. The concave flange portion 39 is internally formed with a pair of spaced grooves 32, the grooves being vertically spaced, and the upper groove being adapted to receive the rim portions 33 of the cartridges. Secured in the lower groove 32 in the respective arcuate recesses are generally U-shaped horizontal cartridge-supporting spring clips 34, the spring clips opening toward the open side of the clip body and being secured at their bight portions in the arcuately curved portions or" the flange So, as shown in FEGURE 7. Thus, the flange 36 is formed with respective vertical slots 35 located in the walls of the arcuate recesses substantially in registry with the lowermost groove 32 so that the slots open into said lowermost groove, and so that the U-shaped spring clips 34 are partially received in said lowermost groove. The slots are formed with vertical grooves 36 in their side edges and the spring clips 34 are formed with outwardly projecting loops 37 which are receivable in the slots, the sides of the loops 37 being formed with outwardly projecting corrugations 3% which are lockingly receivable in the vertical grooves 36, as shown in FiGURE 7. Since the spring clips 3% are of substantial vertical height, corresponding to the vertical height of the slots 35, the spring clips are thus lockingly retained and are rigidly held against rotation relative to the vertical slots 35. The vertical corrugations 33, 38 loclzingly engage in the vertical grooves 36, 36 to firmly and securely hold the spring clips in the positions thereof illustrated in FIG- URE 7. Thus, the cartridges 27 are releasably engageable in the spring clip and are held therein with the rim portions 33 of the cartridges engaging in the upper groove 32. The depending portions of the cartridges 27 define a generally triangular configuration, and the generally triangular apertures 26 in the top wall 24; of the supporting member 21 are conformably shaped so as to snugly receive the three cartridges carried by each loading device 28.
The top wall 29 of the main body of each loading device is provided with a finger tab 4 of suitable flexible material, such as flexible plastic material, or the like, which is secured at its inner margin to the top wall 29 and which has a flexible free end portion overlying the intermediate portion of the opposite margin of the top annex/s1 3 wall 29, namely, overlying the intermediate cartridge of the group of three cartridges supported by the device, as shown in FIGURE 3. The free portion of the finger tab is easily grasped, when desired, so that the tab provides a gripping means for supporting the loading device and for inserting the cartridges 2'7 in the cartridge chambers of the cylinder of a revolver. Thus, the two loading devices 23 carried in the receptacle 12 are sufllcient to reload a conventional six-chamber revolver cylinder.
As shown in FIGURE 4, the member 28, illustrated in dotted view, is supported on the top wall 24 of the supporting member 21 with the cartridges depending through the openings 26 into the space below said top wall 24, the flap 13 of the receptacle, when closed, closely engaging the top portions of the loading devices 28 to securely hold them on the member 21. When it is desired to reload a revolver, the flap 13 is unfastened, exposing the loading devices 28, each loading device being then removed by means of its finger tab 46, which is held by the user so as to align the three cartridges 27 of the device with three chambers of the cylinder of the revolver to be reloaded so that the cartridges may then be inserted into the chambers. As will be readily apparent, by successively utilizing the two loading devices 28 the six chambers of the revolver can be quickly and easily reloaded. When the cartridges are inserted into the chambers, the cartridges are disengaged from the loading device by merely moving same horizontally, namely, in a direction perpendicular to the axes of the cartridges by means of the finger tab 40, to allow the cartridges to be disengaged from the U-shaped spring clips 34, whereby the loading device 23 is disengaged completely from the cartridges, leaving the cartridges in positions wherein they may be thereafter fully inserted into the revolver cylinder chambers.
New cartridges may easily be inserted in the loading devices 28 by engaging them in the spring clips 34 with the rim portions of the cartridges received in the upper groove 32, whereby the loading devices may be replenished and may be replaced in the receptacle 12 for future use.
While a specific embodiment of an improved revolver loading device and receptacle therefor have been disclosed in the foregoing description, it will be understood that various modifications within the spirit of the invention may occur to those skilled in the art. Therefore, it is intended that no limitations be placed on the invention except as defined by the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
l. A revolver loading device comprising a rigid body having a horizontal top wall and a depend-ing concave flange portion open at one side edge of said top wall, said flange portion being formed with a plurality of vertical arcuate recesses shaped to accommodate upper portions of respective cartridges, the flange portion being formed with vertical slots adjacent the respective recesses, re spective U-shaped cartridge-supporting spring clip disposed horizontally in said recesses and opening toward said side edge of the top wall, and corrugated locking loops formed on the bight portions of the spring clips and lockingly engaged in said vertical slots.
2. A revolver loading device comprising a rigid body having a horizontal top wall and a depending concave flange portion open at one side edge of said top wall, said flange portion being formed with a plurality of vertical arcuate recesses shaped to accommodate the upper portions of respective cartridges, the flange portion being formed with vertical slots adjacent the respective recesses, respective U-shaped cartridge-supporting spring clips disposed horizontally in said recesses and opening toward said side edge of the top wall, said slots having vertical grooves in their side edges, and vertically corrugated locking loops formed on the bight portions of the spring clips and extending through said vertical slots, the vertical cor- 4. rugations in the locking loops being lockingly engaged in said vertical slots.
3. A revolver loading device comprising a rigid body having a horizontal top wall and a depending concave flange portion open at one side edge of said top wall, said flange portion being formed with a plurality of vertical arcuate recesses shaped to accommodate the upper portions of respective cartridges, the flange portion being formed with vertical slots adjacent the respective recesses, respective U-shaped cartridge-supporting spring clips disposed horizontally in said recesses and opening toward said side edge of the top wall, said slots having vertical grooves in their side edges, and outwardly projecting locking loops formed on the bight portions of the spring clips and extending through the vertical slots, each locking loop having outwardly projecting vertical corrugations on its opposite side portions lockingly engaged in the vertical grooves in the side edges of the associated slot.
4. in combination, a receptacle having a flexible top cover flap and a rear supporting loop adapted to be engaged on a belt, a substantially rigid generally U-shaped supporting member slidably disposed in the receptacle, said U-shaped member having a horizontal top wall and depending front and rear walls engaging the bottom of the receptacle, said top wall being formed with a plurality of spaced generally triangular openings, and respective cartridge clips each comprising a generally triangular main body having means to support three cartridges in depending positions in a generally triangular configuration, said cartridge clips interfitting with the triangular openings with the main bodies thereof supportingly engaged on said top wall and the cartridges extending through the open- 5. In combination, a receptacle having a flexible top cover flap and a rear supporting loop adapted to be engaged on a belt, a substantially rigid generally U-shaped supporting member slidably disposed in the receptacle, said U-shaped member having a horizontal top wall and depending front and rear walls engaging the bottom of the receptacle, said top wall being formed with a plurality of spaced generally triangular openings, and respective cartridge clips, each comprising a generally triangular main body, three cartridges releasably secured to said main body in depending positions in a generally triangular configuration, said cartridge clips interfi-tting with the triangular openings with the main bodies supportingly engaged on said top wall and the cartridges extending through the openings.
6. In combination, a receptacle having a flexible top cover flap and a rear supporting loop adapted to be engaged on a belt, a substantially rigid generally U-sh-aped supporting member slidably disposed in the receptacle, said U-shaped member having a horizontal top wall and depending front and rear walls engaging the bottom of the receptacle, said top wall being formed with a plurality of spaced generally triangular openings, and respective cartridge clips, each comprising a main body having a generally triangular horizontal top wall and a depending concave flange opening at one side edge of said main body and provided with three generally U-shaped horizontal spring clips opening toward said side edge, respective cartridges releasably secured in said spring clips and held thereby with their lower portions depending from the main bodies parallel to each other and in a generally triangular configuration, said cartridge clips interfitting with the triangular openings with the main bodies supportingly engaged on said top wall and the depending portions of the cartridges extending through the openings.
