(Cl. 221-46) This invention relates to improvements in a dispensing package holder and is concerned more particularly with a holder for a dispensing package of interfolded sheet material having a dispensing opening or slot in one wall thereof through which the sheets are successively withdrawn. In the embodiment illustrated, the dispensing package holder is adapted to be mounted beneath the dash or instrument panel of an automobile.

In the representative embodiment illustrated, the holder includes a substantially rectangular package container in the form of a rectangular box-like structure open at one end to receive a dispensing package. The open end normally is closed by latched closure member or cover which preferably includes a clip or other means to retain an auxiliary bundle of dispensable tissues of a size smaller than those contained in the dispensing package. The box-like structure is suspended beneath a mounting plate that is readily secured to the instrument panel or other surface and is movable relative to said mounting plate into a normally concealed position and into a position to permit access to be had to the interfolded sheet material in the dispensing package contained therein. Such movement is afforded by means of a novel slidablepivotable connection between the plate and box-like structure and tilting movement of the container is limited by a suspension link structure interconnecting the parts, and which functions to support the box-like structure in dispensing position.

An object of the present invention is to provide a novelly constructed dispensing package holder.

Another object is to provide a novel slidable-pivotal connection between the mounting plate and the box-like structure.

Another object is to provide a novel link connection between the mounting plate and box-like structure.

Another object is to provide a dispensing package container with novel means to receive and hold an auxiliary package of dispensable tissue sheets.

Another object is to provide a mounting for a dispensing package container that permits easy, quick and positive positioning of the container in dispensing and non-dispensing positions and to lock said container in the latter position.

Another object is to provide a dispensing package holder which is not expensive or difficult to manufacture, is positive in operation and extremely useful.

The structure by means of which the above noted and other advantages of the invention are attained will be described in the following specification, taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, showing a preferred illustrative embodiment of the invention, in which:

'atent 0 Referring to the accompanying drawings, the dispensing holder comprises a package container 11 which is pivotally and slidably mounted on a mounting plate 12 that is adapted to be secured to any horizontal surface such as, for example, the underside of the instrument panel 13 of an automobile. Mounting plate 12 comprises a substantially square body 14 of sheet material having four spaced apartapertures 15 eachto receive a mounting screw 16 for securing the plate to the underside of a surface 17 which may be part of instrument panel 13. The opposed side margins of body 14'are turned downwardly perpendicular thereto to define side flange 18 each of which is substantially rectangular in shape and each of which may be formed with a marginal stiffening rib 19. Preferably, the forward edge of the body part 14 is formed with 21 depending flange 21 for a purpose to be explained presently.

The package container 11 is fabricated from sheet metal stock into a rectangular box-like structure that includes top and bottom walls 22, 23 respectively, connecting side walls 24 and a back end wall 25. The container 11 is of sufficient size to receive a carton or package 26 (-FIG. 5) of disposable tissues 27 inserted through its open front end 28. The top wall of the package has an elongated slot 29 therein which aligns with an elongated slot 31 in the container top wall 22 so that sheets of disposable tissue can be withdrawn when the container is in dispensing position. When the package container 11 is in the non-dispensing position best shown in FIG. 1, the dispensing slot 31 is concealed by plate 12 and when said container is in the dispensing position shown in FIG. 2, the slot is fully exposed to permit withdrawal of a sheet.

The open front end 28 of the package container normally is closed by an ornamental cover 32 formed substantially cup-shaped and provided at each side With a depending car 33, which ears are pivotally secured, as by rivets 34, to cars 35 struck out of the container bottom wall 23. The opposed free edge of the cover carries a hasp 36 adapted to co-act with a shouldered notch 37 on the front edge of the container top wall 22 for securing the cover in closed position. Preferably, the cover has a spring clip 38 secured to its inside face for retaining a packet of small or purse size cleaning tissues 39 which are rendered available for selective removal and use by swinging cover 32 into an open position irrespective of the position of the container in its mounting.

The package container 11 is mounted between plate flanges 18, as shown, for pivotal and slidable movement. To this end, each flange 18 has an inwardly extending stud 41 that engages in and is adapted to travel along an arcuate track preferably in the form of a slot 42 in each container side wall 24. As shown, tracks 42 are arranged with their terminal ends adjacent to the bottom edge of the container side walls and bow upwardly intermediate their ends. This permits the container to be pulled forwardly and downwardly from the non-dispensing position shown in FIG. 1 into the inclined dispensing position shown in FIG. 2.

The weight of the container and its contents is supported by a pair of links 43 connected at their upper or forward ends one to each plate flange 18, as by rivets 44 and at their other ends one to each side wall 24 as by rivets 45. This link suspension serves to limit forward tilting of the container into a position affording ready access to the tissues. When the package container is in non-dispensing position, spring clips 46 projecting upwardly from the container bottom, and one on each side, yieldingly engage with plate flanges 18 to retain the package container in its horizontal non-dispensing position with its top wall 22 in abutment with mounting plate flange 21.

Although I have described a preferred embodiment of my invention in considerable detail, it Will be understood that the description thereof is intended to be illustrative, rather' than restrictive, as many details of the structure shown may be modified or changed without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention. Accordingly, I do not desire to be restricted to the exact construction described.

I claim:

1. A dispenser of the class described comprising a mounting member having a top wall and depending side flanges, a box-like container having a top wall, a back wall and depending side walls mounted beneath the top wall of said mounting member and between the side flanges thereof, a package having a top wall and containing a supply of tissues mounted in said container, said container and package having registering slots in their top walls through which tissues can be successively withdrawn, an arcuate track in each side wall of the container, said tracks extending generally in a longitudinal direction forwardly from a point closely adjacent the back wall of the container, trunnions adjacent the rear end of each flange engaged normally with the forward ends of the tracks so as to permit the container to slide forwardly relative to the mounting member, links one connecting each side wall of the container with the related depending flange forwardly of the tracks to permit the container to be tilted downwardly relative to the mounting member while being moved forwardly to permit access to the dispensing slots, and spring clips on said container engageable with the flanges to retain the container in its normal position.

A dispenser of the class described comprising a mounting member having a top wall adapted to be mounted to the under side of the dash of an automobile and having parallel depending side flanges, a box-like container having a top wall, a back wall and depending side walls mounted beneath said top wall and between the side flanges, a package having a top wall and containing a supply of tissues mounted in said container, said container and package having registering slots in their top walls through which tissues can be successively withdrawn, aligned trunnions on the inside faces and adjacent the rear ends of said side flanges, an arcuate track in each side wall of said container and with which said trunnions are engaged, said tracks extending generally in a longitudinal direction forwardly from a point closely adjacent to the container back Wall so as to permit the container to slide forwardly relative to said mounting member, and links one connecting each side wall of the container with the related depending flange forwardly of the tracks to permit the container to be tilted downwardly relative to the mounting member while being moved forwardly to permit access to the dispensing slots.

Claims (1)

1. A DISPENSER OF THE CLASS DESCRIBED COMPRISING A MOUNTING MEMBER HAVING A TOP WALL AND DEPENDING SIDE FLANGES, A BOX-LIKE CONTAINER HAVING A TOP WALL, A BACK WALL AND DEPENDING SIDE WALLS MOUNTED BENEATH THE TOP WALL OF SAID MOUNTING MEMBER AND BETWEEN THE SIDE FLANGES THEREOF, A PACKAGE HAVING A TOP WALL AND CONTAINING A SUPPLY OF TISSUES MOUNTED IN SAID CONTAINER, SAID CONTAINER AND PACKAGE HAVING REGISTERING SLOTS IN THEIR TOP WALLS THROUGH WHICH TISSUES CAN BE SUCCESSIVELY WITHDRAWN, AN ARCUATE TRACK IN EACH SIDE WALL OF THE CONTAINER, SAID TRACKS EXTENDING GENERALLY IN A LONGITUDINAL DIRECTION FORWARDLY FROM A POINT CLOSELY ADJACENT THE BACK WALL OF THE CONTAINER, TRUNNIONS ADJACENT THE REAR END OF EACH FLANGE ENGAGED NORMALLY WITH THE FORWARD ENDS OF THE TRACKS SO AS TO PERMIT THE CONTAINER TO SLIDE FORWARDLY RELATIVE TO THE MOUNTING MEMBER, LINKS ONE CONNECTING EACH SIDE WALL OF THE CONTAINER WITH THE RELATED DEPENDING FLANGE FORWARDLY OF THE TRACKS TO PERMIT THE CONTAINER TO BE TILTED DOWNWARDLY RELATIVE TO THE MOUNTING MEMBER WHILE BEING MOVED FORWARDLY TO PERMIT ACCESS TO THE DISPENSING SLOTS, AND SPRING CLIPS ON SAID CONTAINER ENGAGEABLE WITH THE FLANGES TO RETAIN THE CONTAINER IN ITS NORMAL POSITION.
