Description
3, 1963 w. I. LITTMAN 3,100,494
COMBINATION MONEY CLIP AND CHANGE HOLDER Filed Oct. 5, 1961 IN VEN TOR.
Mzz/AM Z [mum/v 3,1tl0,494 COMBINATION MONEY CLIP AND CHANGE HOLDER William Israel Littman, MD 14, New Windsor, N ewburgh, N.Y. Filed Oct. 3, 1961, Ser. No. 142,568 1 Claim. c1. 133-6) This invention relates to a combination money clip and change holder and has as its primary object the provision of a device which will in a single article provide means for holding folding money and simultaneously provide a means for holding a limited amount of change for ready accessibility. v
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character which may be manufactured from a single unitary blank of spring steel with a minimum of effort and difliculty.
Afurther object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character having resilient means for retaining coins in a position from which they may be readily extracted for immediate use.
Still another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character which is sturdy and durable in construction, reliable and eflicient in operation, and relatively simple and inexpensive to manufacture.
Other objects will in part be obvious and in part be pointed out as the description of the invention proceeds and shown in the accompanying drawings wherein:
FIGURE 1 is a top plan view of one form of combination money clip and change holder constructed in accordance with the instant invention.
FIGURE 2 is a sectional view taken substantially along the line 22 of FIG. 1 as viewed in the direction indicated by the arrows.
FIGURE 3 is a sectional view taken substantially along the line 3-3 of FIG. 1 as viewed in the direction indicated by the arrows.
FIGURE 4 is a sectional view taken substantially along the line 44 of FIG. 1 as viewed in the direction indicated by the arrows; and
FIGURE 5 is a plan view of the blank from which the article is constructed prior to folding the same.
Similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views of the drawing.
Having reference now to the drawings in detail, the device of the instant invention, generally indicated at comprises a central or base plate 11 from one end of which extends a tongue 12. As best shown in FIG. 2, tongue 12 is provided with a lower fold line 13, which serves, in a manner to be more fully described hereinafter, as a stop for coins, and which also spaces the tongue 12 outwardly from the plate 11 in such manner as to provide a resilient spring money clip. The outer extremity of tongue 12 is flared as at 14 to facilitate the insertion of folded money between the tongue '12 and the plate 11.
Extending laterally from plate -11 are a pair of substantially identical tongue members 15, each of which is bifurcated to form a pair of legs 16, having a space 17 therebetween, the arrangement being such that when the tongues :15 are folded along a double fold line 18, they extend over the plate 11 to form holders for change. The
tips of the legs 16 are upwardly turned as at 20, to facilitate the insertion of coins under the tongues, the coins United States Patent 0 3,100,494 Patented Aug. 13, 1963 thus being held securely in position by the resiliency of the members 16 and readily accessible to finger manipulation in the space 17.
One end 21 of blank 11 is folded along the fold line 22 to provide an end closure to preclude the slippage of coins out of the sides of the device, such slippage at the other end being provided by the reverted portion 1% of tongue 12.
An end portion 23 of blank 11 adjacent the outer side of tongue 12 is also reverted along thefold line 24 to provide a complete closure for that end of the device which is not closed by the reverted portion 13 previously described. Coins are maintained in separate relation beneath the two members 15 by a tongue 25 which is struck from the center of the blank 11, and which extends upwardly in vertical relation between the two adjacent legs 16 to the members 15, thus forming a divider.
From the foregoing the use and operation of the device should now be readily understandable. After the blank of FIG. 5 has been folded as previously described, into the shape of the device of FIG. 1, folded bills may be inserted between the tongue 12 and the base plate .11, while coins of suitable denomination may be forced beneath the indentations 21 at the ends of legs 16, and be held in position by the normal resiliency of the legs or fingers '16. When it is desired to remove a coin it is simply necessary to exert pressure of the thumb or finger on the portion of the coin exposed to the space 17, and slip it outwardly under the indented or resilient portions 21 to have the same immediately available for use.
them the foregoing it will now be seen that there is herein provided an improved combination money clip and change holder which accomplishes all the objects of this invention, and others, including many advantages of great practical utility.
As many embodiments may be made of this inventive concept, and as many modifications may be made in the embodiment hereinbefore shown and described, it is to be understood that all matter herein is to be interpreted merely as illustrative, and not in a limiting sense.
I claim:
A combination money clip and change holder complised of a single blank of resilient material comprising a base, a spring tongue extending from one end of said base and reverted to overlie said base to form a money clip and a pair of extensions disposed at right angles to said tongue and folded over the opposite side of said clip, said extensions being bifurcated to provide spring holders for coins with the space between the bifurcations permitting removal of the coin by finger pressure, and a plate struck from said base and positioned between said extensions forming a divider, the attached end of said tongue being offset to underlie the end opening of one of said extensions, a flange formed on the end of said base overlying and closing the end opening of the other of said extensions, and spring indentations formed at the end of said bifurcations to prevent accidental removal of coins from the open side of said extension.
