Description

Nov. 12, 1963 E. DUBE 3,110,467
HOOK FOR FACIAL TISSUE BOX AND THE LIKE Filed June 15, 1961 IN VE N TOR Emile 0085 By QM P PATENT AGENT United States Patent ce 3,110,467 HQQK FQR FACIAL TISSUE BOX AND THE LIKE Emile Dube, 6965 Latontaine St, Montreal, Quebec, (Ianada Filed June 15, 1961, Ser. No. 117,329 4 Qiaims. (Cl. 248-311) This present invention relates to a hook more particularly designed for suspending from a wall a box of facial tissue paper, of waxed paper and the like dispensing boxes made of cardboard, thick paper and the like.
Facial tissue paper is often transferred .to a metal dispensing container which is fixed to a wall in order to provide easily accessible means for the tissue paper. These metal dispensers are relatively expensive and are rather diflicult to fill with the tissue paper.
The general object of the present invention is therefore to obviate the above noted disadvantages by providing means for fixing to a wall the cardboard box itself containing the tissue paper and to maintain the same in secure position and such as to make tissue paper readily accessible.
An important object of the present invention is therefore to provide a special hook from which the box con taining the tissue paper can be readily hung, and which will maintain the box in a proper horizontal position and securely in place so as to resist the forces exerted when the tissue paper is pulled from the box.
Another important object of the present invention is the provision of a hook of the character, which is so designed that the box can be very quickly and easily hooked, thereon even when the box has no special provision for receiving the hook.
Another important object of the present invention is the provision of a hook of the character which is of simple and inexpensive construction.
The foregoing and other important objects of the present invention will become clearer during the following description and by referring to the annexed drawings, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a cross section of a box of facial tissue paper suspended from a wall by means of the book of the present invention shown in cross section taken along line 1-1 of FIGURE 3;
FIGURE 2 is a perspective view of the hook;
FIGURE 3 is a front elevation of the hook; and
FIGURE 4 is a back elevation of the hook inserted into the back of a box.
Referring now, more particularly to the drawings in which like reference characters indicate like elements throughout, the hook of the present invention is generally indicated at H and consists of a sheet metal element which has been die cut and stamped to provide a generally lozenge shape body 1 having two spaced parallel slits 4 disposed on both sides of a diagonal of the lozenge and parallel thereto, said slits running from the converging side edges 10 of the body inwardly to the other diagonal. Thus there are defined a triangular base portion 2, an upstanding central tongue 3 between the slits and, on each side of the tongue 3, prongs 5 of right triangular shape.
Prongs 5 are offset from the plane of tongue 3 and base portion 2, being connected to part 2 by bent parts 6 which 3 ,110,467 Patented Nov. 12, 1963 are aligned and extend on a diagonal of the lozenge body 1. The prongs 5 have pointed tips 7 which are preferably curved outwardly, as shown.
The upper end of central tongue 3 and the lower end of base portion 2 of the hook are provided with holes 8 and 9 respectively on the vertical diagonal for receiving nails N, for fixing the hook to a wall W. The hook is nailed in upright position with the tips 7 of prongs 5 pointing upwardly, and such that the prongs 5 will project outwardly from base 2 as shown in FIGURE 1.
The back wall of a box B containing tissue paper P is pressed onto the curved tips 7 such that these tips make perforations which are widened along lines of cut B as shown in FIGURE 4 by a continued downward pressure on the box due to the cutting action of the inclined side edges 10 of the prongs 5.
When the box is in a properly hooked position, the prongs 5 are inserted within the box and the lower ends of the lines of cut B made by the prongs rest on the bent portions 6 of the hook. As there are two spaced relatively wide portions 6 on both sides of the central tongue 3, it will be clear that the box is in firmly seated position and that it is prevented from tilting sideways.
Although two hooks in accordance with the present invention may be used. for suspending the box, only one hook engaging the central part of the box will generally be sufficient for firmly holding the box in position. In this position the usual dispensing slot S of the box B is disposed horizontally and tissue paper P can be pulled through slot S.
If desired the tips '7 can be made fiat with the remaining portion of the prongs 5, however curving the same outwardly facilitates the perforation of the box at B.
The box B can have a straight slit already made therein such that the cardboard of the box does not have to be torn for suspending the box on the hook, thereby further facilitating suspension of the box by the user. FIGURE 1 shows the hook inserted into an already made slit.
While a preferred embodiment in accordance with the present invention has been illustrated and described, it is understood that various modifications may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A hook for suspending from a wall a box of facial tissue paper and the like, comprising an element made of rigid sheet material having a fiat base portion and an integral triangular upper portion defining two converging side edges, said upper portion having two spaced parallel slits running from said respective side edges to said base portion to thereby define between these two slits a tongue extending from and in the plane of said base portion, and, on each side of said tongue, a right triangular prong having a pointed tip which is defined by the junction of the respective side edge with the edge defined by the respective slit, the bases of said prongs being integrally joined to said base portion by bent parts along lines in mutual alignment on both sides of said tongue and at right angles to said slits, said prongs being slightly offset from but parallel to the plane of said base portion, and said bent parts forming seats for receiving slit edges of the box.
2. A hook as claimed in claim 1, wherein the tip of each prong is outwardly curved. V
3. A hook for suspending from a wall a box of facial tissue paper and the like comprising a sheet metal element having a lozenge shape and two spaced parallel slits running parallel to and on each side of a diagonal of said lozenge shaped element from the respective converging side edges of said lozenge shaped element to the other 5 diagonal of said element, said slits defining a tongue therebetween and two right triangular pointed prongs on each side of said tongue, said prongs being slightly oifset with respect to said tongue but in a plane parallel thereto.
4. A hook claimed as claim 3, wherein the tips of said 10 prongs are outwardly curved.
