Description

June 15, 1965 J. TRUESON CHRISTMAS OUTSIDE LIGHT HOLDER Filed May 18, 1962 INVENTOR. Jfijf ff FEWEJWW United States Patent 3,189,310 CHRESTMAS OUTSHDE LEGHT HQLDER Joseph Truescn, 1846 Haring St, Brooklyn 29, FLY. Filed May 18, 1962, er. No. 195,893 1 Claim. (Ci. ass-s14 My invention is directed toward lamp holders adapted to receive strings of Christmas lamps or lights and the like when said strings are held outside a building.
It is an object of my invention to provide a new and improved lamp holder of the character indicated.
Another object of my invention is to provide a new and improved lamp holder of the character indicated which can be easily installed and removed with only the use of a screw driver.
Still another object of my invention is to provide a new and improved lamp holder which can be easily manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of my invention will become apparent when this specification is studied together with the accompanying drawings wherein:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of the lamp holder embodying my invention;
FIGURE 2 is a medial longitudinal cross section through the lamp holder of FIGURE 1;
FIGURE 3 is a front view of my lamp holder; and
FIGURE 4 is a fragmentary view of a house showing application of my invention thereto.
Referring now to FIGURES 1-4, the outside molding positioned below the roof 12 of a house 14 carries a string of outside Christmas lights, this string comprising a plurality of sockets 16 interconnected by electrical cables 18, a lamp bulb 20 being screwed in each socket 16. Each socket is removably positioned within a socket supporting member 22. This member is a hollow plastic cylinder open at one end 24 and sealed oif at the other end to provide a base 26. A hole 28 in base 26 carries a screw 30 which when screwed into molding 1th supports member 22 in place. The cylindrical wall 32 of member 22 carries two oppositely disposed horizontal slots 34 in which rest the cables 18. Referring to FIG. 2 it will be seen that the cylindrical wall 32 varies in thickness from the base 26 to its outer end, being of a lesser thickness adjacent the base 26, such that the inner wall surface of the cylindrical wall 32 is conical or tapers towards the outer open end 24 of the holder. The inside diameter of the cylindrical wall 32 at the open end 24 is dimensioned to receive the cylindrical lamp bulb socket 16 in a friction-tight fit so as to securely retain the same within the hoider. Due to the slots and this variation in wall thickness, the opposed portions of the cylindrical Wall 32 will give slightly to accommodate the socket 16 and thus provide the desired friction-tight gripping action.
The string of lamps can be easily removed from and reinserted in members 22 as desired. Hence members 22 can remain permanently screwed in place.
While I have described my invention with particular attention to the drawings, my protection is to be limited only by the terms of the claim which follows.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
For use with an electric light-bulb socket having wires extending from each side thereof; a one-piece plastic holder having a substantially thick cylindrical wall, a base integral with said wall and forming a closure at one terminal end thereof, the other end of said wall being open, said cylindrical wall having its inside wall surface tapering outwardly from said base to said open end, whereby said inside wall suriace of said cylindrical wall at its base end will be of a diameter greater than the diameter thereof at said open end and said cylindrical wall will correspondingly be of a less thickness at its base end than at its open end, a pair of like diametrically opposed rectilinear slots of uniform Width formed in said cylindrical wall extending longitudinally thereof from said open end to a pointadjacent said base, such that upon insertion of said socket into said holder, the outer end portions of said cylindrical wall will firmly grip said socket in a friction-tight fit by virtue of said cylinder wall thickness and with each slot receiving an associated wire, and fastener receiving opening provided centrally in said ase.
