Description

July 13, 1965 H. BELL SKI TOW TICKET HOLDER Filed June 28, 1963 E "lllm ui IN VEN TOR 406:". Amrp qs United States Patent 3,193,842 SKI TUW TICKET HQLDER Harold Bell, Gloucester, Mass, assiguor to Cape Ann Manufacturing (30., Gloucester, Mass a corporation of Massachusetts Filed June 28, 1963, Ser. No. 291,312 4 Claims. (Cl. 2-94) The present invention generally relates to garment structures and more particularly an outer jacket or coat such as those worn by skiers which incorporates a facility therein for expeditiously holding and displaying tickets enabling the holder thereof to use a ski lift.
While the present invention is explicitly constructed for use by skiers, it is pointed out that this structure may be incorporated into various type garments where it is desirable to hold and display a ticket in a readily accessible manner without the holder of the ticket being required to search for a ticket when it is required to be displayed. The present invention is especially helpful when the person having the ticket is wearing gloves, mittens or the like since the ticket is held in a readily accessible position and in a position in which the ticket may be readily displayed.
Inasmuch as the secure holding and display of a ski tow ticket has long been a problem with skiers, various individuals have resorted to makeshift solutions such as pinning the ticket to the exterior of the garment, buttoning the ticket to a button, providing special transparent pockets or stapling the ticket to the garment in some manner. While such makeshift solutions provide a partial solution to the problem, the present invention provides a solution which not only readily holds the ticket in place within a pocket but also enables the ticket to be easily extracted from the pocket and displayed with no danger whatsoever of the ticket becoming lost or detached and blown away.
Essentially, it is an object of the present invention to provide a ski tow ticket holder and display arrangement including generally a pocket incorporated into the upper arm portion of a jacket or the like with the pocket being provided with a slide-type or Zipper closure although other types of closures could be employed. A fabric tab is securely sewn into the pocket and at the free end of the tab, there is provided a spring clip which is cam actuated and positive to which the skiers tow ticket is attached. When it is not necessary for the ticket to be shown for admittance to the tow or lift, the entire tab and clip with the ticket attached thereto may be enclosed in the pocket for protection again snow, rain and other damage.
Another important object of the present invention is to provide a ski lift or tow ticket holder and display device which is extremely simple in construction, easy to incorporate into garments, adaptable for various uses, easy to manipulate and relatively inexpensive to manufacture.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of the present invention incorporated into a jacket;
FIGURE 2 is a partial perspective view with portions thereof broken away illustrating the pocket structure when in closed condition;
FIGURE 3 is a transverse, sectional view, on an enlarged scale, taken substantially upon a plane passing along section line 33 of FIGURE 2;
FIGURE 4 is a vertical sectional view taken substantially upon a plane passing along section line 44, on an enlarged scale, illustrating the structure of the pocket incorporated into the jacket; and
FIGURE 5 is a fragmental perspective view of thecam operated spring clip at the end of the tab for securing the ticket thereto.
Referring now specifically to the drawings, the numeral 10 generally designates the ski lift or tow ticket holder and display unit of the present invention which is incorporated into a conventional outer jacket or coat 14 having the usual sleeve 16. At the upper outer surface of the sleeve 16, there is provided the ticket holder and display unit of the present invention in the form of a relatively small pocket 18 incorporated into the upper outer sleeve 16 and provided with an entrance slit 20 closed by a slide-type fastener assembly such as a zipper having a slider 22 for interlockingly engaging and detaching the interlocking elements 24 for forming a closure for the pocket. The interlocking elements 24 are mounted on the usual longitudinal tapes 26 which are secured to the edges of the inner and outer walls 28 and 30 of the pocket structure 18. The edges of the panels 28 and 3t) remote from the tapes 26 are inturned and stitched by a peripheral row of stitching 32. To provide a finished appearance to the entrance slit 20, the material 34 from which the sleeve 16 is constructed is reversely folded as at 36 and rows of stitching -38 serve to secure the reversely folded portion 36 in place and also serves to secure the tapes 26 to the panels 28 and 30 and also secure the panels 28 and 30 as well as the tapes 26 to the sleeve material 34 thus leaving the pocket independent of the sleeve liner 40.
Incorporated into the pocket 18 is a flexible strap 42 of fabric material in the form of a loop which has a clip assembly 44 at one end thereof and the other end thereof is secured to the sleeve material 34 and to the tapes 26 and to the layers of the pocket 28 and 30 by double stitching 46 or the like whereby the flexible strap 42 is secured with the clip assembly and the outer end of the strap 42 being capable of projecting outwardly through the slit 20 forming the entrance into the pocket 18.
The clip assembly 44 includes a first jaw 48 and a second jaw 50 with each jaw having inturned ends with the jaw 48 having inturned teeth 52 while the jaw 50 has an inturned end 54 having a smooth terminal edge adapted to frictionally grip a ticket 56 such as those used by skiers to gain admittance to a ski tow or lift. The jaw 48 is provided with a loop 57 receiving the strap 42 and the jaw 50 is provided with a similar loop 58 receiving the strap 42. Also, the jaw 48 is provided with a pair of lugs 60 which extend upwardly through notches 62 formed in the jaw 50 and a pivotal handle 64 is mounted between the terminal ends of the lugs 60 and the inner end of the handle 64 is provided with an inturned cam forming end 66 by virtue of which the jaw 50 may be urged towards the jaw 48 when the handle 54 is moved towards the jaw 50 so that it is coextensive therewith as illustrated in FIGURES 1 and 2. When this occurs, the cam 66 forces the jaw 50 towards the jaw 48 thus springbiasing the teeth 52 and the gripping edge 54 towards each other thereby securely gripping and clamping the ticket 56 between the jaws 48 and 50 so that it will not become dislodged and lost due to wind or other conditions and also enabling the ticket to be readily removed when desired and also enabling the ticket to be easily removed from the pocket 18 by merely manipulating the closure slider 22 in an obvious manner and pulling the ticket out of the pocket which is capable of being done even with gloves or mittens on the skiers hands. Also, the ticket may be readily reinserted back into the pocket 18 when desired thereby providing a convenient storage area for the ticket to enable it to be readily accessible indlaiilso to protect it from damage due to snow, water and t e i e.
'7 The foregoing is considered'as illustrative only of the principles of the inventi'om' Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in theart, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly all suitabletmodifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the inven-i tion as claimed. 1 X
