(CI. 3650) This invention relates to an overshoe or boot and more partciularly to a unique closure which pulls the top opening of the boot together to form a snug fit around the leg of the wearer and yet because of the elastic nature of the closure allows legs movement without the closing ball slipping out of position.

it is a feature of this invention that because of the elasticity of the closure the boot heel is held tight against the heel of the wearer while walking which avoids flopping of the heel and a general uncomfortable feeling when used.

These and other objects, features and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the annexed specification in which:

FIGURE 1 is a side view of a boot embodying the present invention with parts broken away for clarity of illustration;

FIGURE 2 is a section taken along the line 2-2 of FIGURE 1;

FIGURE 3 is an enlarged fragmentary section through a top edge of the boot showing the attachment of the trim, the grommet and one end of the closure; and

FlGURE 4 is an enlarged perspective elevation of the ball or button used with the closure of this invention.

Referring now more particularly to the invention, there is shown a boot overshoe indicated generally by the numeral and having a trim 11 attached thereto as by stitching 12. The boot is open at the top 13 and presents two

side walls

14 and 15. Side wall 14 is pierced and a grommet 16 is afiixed therein as indicated and side wall is likewise pierced and has a grommet 17 aflixed therein as indicated. An elastic button 18 is provided having an opening 19 therein as particularly shown in FIGURE 4. An elastic cord 20 is provided having its ends passing through the grommets 16 and 17 and secured thereto by forming knots 21 and 22 in the ends of the cord to prevent the same from being drawn through the grommets. The cord 2!) is passed through the opening 19 of the button 18 and a knot 23 is tied in the cord to prevent the same from being withdrawn through the opening 19 in the button 18. The cord 20 has a snug fit in the opening 19 and due to the elasticity thereof will tend to remain fixed in any position. In use the wearer will insert his foot through the opening 13 of the boot and then draw on the cord 2% pulling the button 18 downward which serves to close the boot pulling the

14 and 15 together to form a snug fit around the ankle of the wearer.

As stated hereinabove the elastic nature of the cord 20 allows complete freedom of leg movement without the button 18 slipping out of position. It also permits the pulling together of the

14 and 15 to form a snug fit all around the leg and also tends to pull the entire boot together so as to cause the heel to fit snugly to prevent flopping.

While there has been described what is at present considered a preferred embodiment of the present invention, it will be appreciated by those skilled in the art that various changes and modifications can be made therein Without departing from the essence of the invention and it is intended to cover herein all such changes and modifications as come within the true spirit and scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. A boot comprising: a shoe having an open throat and two opposed sides: a grommet in each of said sides; an elastic draw string having its ends extending through said grommets and affixed therein; a bead having an opening therein, said draw string being folded upon itself and passing through said opening; said head being slidable on said draw string to pull said slides together to close said boot on the foot of a wearer.

2. A boot comprising: a shoe having an open throat and two opposed sides: a grommet ineach of said sides; an elastic draw string having its ends extending through said grommets and afiixed therein; a bead having an opening therein, said draw string being folded upon itself and passing through said opening; said bead being slidable on said draw string to pull said slides together to close said boot on the foot of a wearer and means to prevent said head from coming off of said draw string.

A boot comprising: a shoe having an open throat and two opposed sides: a grommet in each of said sides; an elastic draw string having its ends extending through said grommets and aflixed therein; a bead having an opening therein, said draw string being folded upon itself and passing through said opening; said bead being slidable on said draw string to pull said slides together to close said boot on the foot of a wearer, the folded strands of said draw string being knotted together adjacent the free end thereof to prevent said bead from coming off of said draw string.

A boot comprising: a shoe having an open throat and two opposed sides: a grommet in each of said sides; an elastic draw string having its ends extending through said grommets and affixed therein; a resilient bead having an opening therein, said draw string being folded upon itself and passing through said opening; said bead being slidable on said draw string to pull said slides together to close said boot on the foot of a wearer.

5. A boot comprising: a shoe having an open throat and two opposed sides; and elastic draw string having its ends fixed respectively to one or the other of said sides; a resilient bead having an opening therein, said draw string being folded upon itself and passing through said opening; said head being slidable on said draw string to pull said slides together to close said boot on the foot of a wearer.

Claims

1. A BOOT COMPRISING: A SHOE HAVING AN OPEN THROAT AND TWO OPPOSED SIDES: A GROMMET IN EACH OF SAID SIDES; AN ELASTIC DRAW STRING HAVING ITS ENDS EXTENDING THROUGH SAID GROMMETS AND AFFIXED THEREIN; A BEAD HAVING AN OPENING THEREIN, SAID DRAW STRING BEING FOLDED UPON ITSELF AND PASSING THROUGH SAID OPENING; SAID BEAD BEING SLIDABLE ON SAID DRAW STRING TO PULL SAID SLIDES TOGETHER TO CLOSE SAID BOOT ON THE FOOT OF A WEARER.
