Description

g- 1966 A. J. M COLGAN DISPENSING CONTAINER FOR ALIGNED ARTICLES Filed April 2, 1965 IN VEN TOR. Ad. M9 COL GA/V United States Patent 3,265,241 DHSPENSING CONTAHNER FOR ALIGNED ARTICLES Arnold .I. McColgan, Pointe Claire, Quebec, Canada, as-
signor to W. Ralston & (30., (Canada) Ltd., Montreal,
Quebec, Canada, a corporation of Canada Filed Apr. 2, 1965, Ser. No. 445,135 2 Claims. (Cl. 221-47) This invention relates to a dispensing container for flexible articles such as bags, tissues and the like.
In the dispensing art it has heretofore not been possible to produce a dispensing container permitting quick and rapid removal of the aligned articles in successive feeding relationship, which has been foolproof, simple and inexpensive to manufacture. The container of the instant invention is simple to operate, simple to construct and foolproof in operation as contrasted with the prior art containers.
The above constitutes a brief description of the instant invention and the objects and advantages thereof. Further objects of this invention will become apparent from a reading of this specification.
The invention will be further described by reference to the accompanying drawings which are made a part of this specification.
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a dispensing container made in accordance with this invention showing the manner in which an aligned article may be removed therefrom.
FIGURE 2 is a fragmentary detail perspective view of the support portion within the body of the container of this invention.
FIGURE 3 is a plan view of the container of this invention with a portion thereof broken away to show the internal construction.
FIGURE 4 is a sectional view taken along lines 4-4 of FIG. 3.
The invention will now be further described by reference to the specific form thereof as shown in the accompanying drawing which represents the best mode known to the inventor of taking advantage of this invention.
The dispenser 11 of this invention comprises a body portion 12 having a hollow interior 13. A support portion 14 having a substantially inverted V-shaped central element 15 and a pair of angularly disposed and outwardly extending substantially flat end portions 16 which are disposed within hollow portion 13 of container 12. Portions 16 are secured to the interior face of the bottom portions 17 of body 12. The angular relationship between portions 16 and central element 15 permits portions 16 to be firmly secured to body 12. A plurality of bags 18 (preferably flexible plastic bags) are disposed in draped aligned relationship of V-shapecl portion 15. Despite the angular relationship between element 15 and portions 16 bags 18 still drape smoothly. A plurality of pivotally movable complementary cover elements 19 and 20 are secured to top portion 21 of body 12. A
pair of cut out portions 22 and 23 are disposed laterally adjacent the end portions of covers 19 and 20.
With the foregoing specific description the operation of this invention may now be explained.
The container 11 of this invention is filled with bags Patented August 9, 1966 ice 18 and covers 19 and 20 maintained in the closed position shown in FIG. 3. For greater security an overlying sealing member (not shown) may be disposed about covers 19 and 20.
When the container is directed to be utilized as a dispensing container, covers 19 and 20 are separated from one another at their junction portion 24 and are opened as shown in FIG. 1. The topmost bag 18 (identified as 25 in FIG. 1) is then grasped by the hand 26 by the operator and removed from the container. This removal is expedited by the additional cut out portions 22 and 23 permitting the bag to be smoothly and easily removed from the container.
After the first bag is removed, the process can be repeated with succeeding bags until the container is empty.
The preferred material for the container of this invention is cardboard, but plastic materials of various types may also be used.
The foregoing sets forth the manner in which the objects of this invention are achieved.
What is claimed is:
1. A dispensing container for flexible bags comprising a hollow body having a top and bottom portion thereupon, a support member within said body having a substantially inverted V-shaped portion and a pair of angularly disposed and outwardly extending substantially flat end portions, each of said end portions parallel with and secured to the bottom portion of said body, said V-shaped portion adapted to support a plurality of said flexible bags in aligned draped overlying relationship, and a pair of complementary pivotally movable openable covers upon the top portion of said body overlying and spaced from said V-shaped portion.
2. A dispensing container for flexible plastic bags comprising a hollow body having a top and a bottom portion thereupon, a support member within said body having a substantially inverted central V-shaped portion and a pair of outwardly extending substantially fiat end portions, each of said end portions secured to the bottom portion of said body, said V-shaped portion adapted to support a plurality of said flexible bags in aligned draped overlying relationship, a pair of complementary pivotally movable openable covers upon the top portion of said body overlying and spaced from said V-shaped por, tion, said top portion of said body also provided with a cut-out portion laterally adjacent the end portion of said covers.
