United States Patent 3,268,914 WATERPRUUF GARMENT Esther Barber, 19 Killean Park, Colonic, N.Y. Filed Aug. 26, 1963, Ser. No. 304,439 2 Claims. (Cl. 2227) This invention relates to a waterproof garment for use as a protective outer garment in inclement weather such as wintertime.

In the wintertime a child in playing outside often disregards the snow and slush. He often returns home cold and chilled with his snowsuit, undergarments, stockings and shoes soaked and his susceptibleness to catching cold increased.

The problem in the art to which this invention appertains, therefore, is the need for a one-piece, light-weight, waterproof, plastic outer garment for emplacement over the shoes and snowsuit of a child to keep the child warm and dry in the winter especially.

The object of the invention is to provide a one-piece, light-weight, waterproof, plastic outer garment for emplacement over the shoes and snowsuit of a child to keep the child warm and dry in the wintertime.

This object and other objects of the invention should be discerned and appreciated from the detailed specification taken in conjunction with the drawings, wherein like reference numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views, in which FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a portion of the waterproof garment shown emplaced over the shoes and snowsuit legging of the child;

FIG. 2 is a front view of the waterproof garment;

FIG. 3 is a fragmentary rear view of the waterproof garment;

FIG. 4 is a fragmentary section view taken along the line 4-4 of FIG. 2;

FIG. 5 is a fragmentary sectional view taken along the line 5-5 of FIG. 3.

Reference numeral 1 generally refers to the invention shown in FIG. 2 of the drawings comprising a one-piece outer garment made of suitable durable, but pliable plastic that is adapted to be welded together upon application of heat.

The outer garment of plastic material comprises a waist portion 3, right leg portion 5, left leg portion 7, right foot portion 9 and left foot portion 11.

To impart durability and strength to the waist portion 3, the waist band 13 is formed by folding over the material forming same to comprise an outside portion 15 and an inside portion 17 and securing these outside and inside portions together by suitable application of heat to weld same together.

Adjustability is imparted to the waist portion 3 by providing conventional eyelet and snap sets 19 at the right and left lateral portions of the waist band 13.

As shown in FIG. 3 and FIG. 4, durability and strength Patented August 30, 1966 is imparted to the rear right leg portion 5, rear left leg portion 7, middle portion 21 and crotch portion 23 by joining the material together to form seams 25 and securing the joined material together by suitable application of heat.

As shown in FIG. 3, further strength is imparted to the crotch portion 23 by securing thereto by suitable application of heat an inset 27.

The outer garment of plastic material should be of sufiicient weight to be durable, but light enough not to be too bulky in use.

In use of the outer garment, the child emplaces his feet in the respective foot portions and draws the leg portions upwardly over his legs and secures the outer garment at his waist by utilization of the eyelet and snap sets in the waist band to afford a snug fit. The childs overshoes 29 are next emplaced over the foot portions of the outer garment.

By use of the outer garment the childs feet, shoes, stockings, undergarments and snowsuit will remain dry in the wintertime and the body heat produced by the child in his lower extremities will keep the child warm.

Having thusly described my invention, I claim:

1. A one-piece bifurcated nether garment of plastic material having closed-ended leg portions for emplacement between the shoes and overshoes and over the snow suit of a child to keep the child warm and dry while outdoors in inclement weather, said garment being adapted to enclose the lower extremities and the feet of the wearer, said one-piece garment having a waistband portion, said waistband portion being folded upon itself, said folded portion being heat-welded to the garment for strengthening the upper edge of said garment, and an insert heatwelded to the crotch portion of said garment to provide further strength and spread to said crotch portion.

2. The one-piece bifurcated nether garment. as defined in claim 1 wherein said waistband portion includes cooperative fastening means for securing the garment around the waist of the wearer.

Claims

1. A ONE-PIECE BIFURCATED NETHER GARMENT OF PLASTIC MATERIAL HAVING CLOSED-ENDED LEG PORTIONS FOR EMPLACEMENT BETWEEN THE SHOES AND OVERSHOES AND OVER THE SNOW SUIT OF A CHILD TO KEEP THE CHILD WARM AND DRY WHILE OUTDOORS IN INCREMENT WEATHER, SAID GARMENT BEING ADAPTED TO ENCLOSE THE LOWER EXTREMITIES AND THE FEET OF THE WEARER, SAID ONE-PIECE GARMENT HAVING A WAISTBAND PORTION, SAID WAISTBAND PORTION BEING FOLDED UPON ITSELF, SAID FOLDED PORTION BEING HEAT-WELDED TO THE GARMENT FOR STRENGTHENING THE UPPER EDGE OF SAID GARMENT, AND AN INSERT HEATWELDED TO THE CROTCH PORTION OF SAID GARMENT TO PROVIDE FURTHER STRENGTH AND SPREAD TO SAID CROTCH PORTION.
