ABRAHAM F. COSTA ATTORNEY United States Patent 3,270,742 BANDAGE HOLDER Abraham F. Costa, 1139 Roy Ave., San Jose, Calif. Filed Nov. 17, 1964, Ser. No. 411,936 3 Claims. (Cl. 128-171) This invention relates to a removable device for holding bandages on wounded limbs or other body members.

An object of this invention is to provide an improved device for holding a bandage on a wound, said device being readily removable so that the bandage may be replaced.

Another object of this invention is to provide an improved removable bandage holder which may be sterilized and used repeatedly simply by replacing the bandage therein.

Still another object of this invention is to provide a bandage holder with resilient clip-like members at each end for encircling the wounded limb and holding the bandage, which is positioned under the body member of the device, against the wound.

Still another object of this invention is to provide an improved bandage holder which employs a body member for receiving and holding the bandage and which is provided with flexible means in the form of straps that may be tied around the body or wounded limb to hold the body member and bandage in place.

Other and further objects of this invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art to which it relates from the following specification, claims and drawing in which, briefly:

FIG. 1 is a perspective view of an embodiment of this bandage holder;

FIG. 2 is a sectional view taken along the line 2-2 of FIG. 1;

FIG. 3 is a sectional view taken along the line 3-3 of FIG. 1; and

FIG. 4 is a view showing a modified form of bandage holder.

Referring to the drawing in detail, reference numeral designates the body portion of this bandage holder which may be made of thin sheet metal, plastic material or any other relatively rigid and durable material which will retain its shape and resist breakage. The end portions of the body 10 are provided with resilient clip-

12, 13, 14 and 15 which are adapted to embrace a persons arm or leg so as to support the bandage and holder thereon.

The main part of the body 10 is provided with a plurality of rows of holes 11 to provide for ventilation to the bandage material 16 that is positioned against this portion of the bandage holder. The bandage holder is provided with

17 and 18 which are formed by bending portions of the side of the body inward so that side portions of the bandage 16 may be slipped thereunder and the bandage held in position against the inner surface of the body 10.

An end flange 19 which is formed by punching out part of the body in the area 20 is formed by inwardly turning this portion of the material so that the bandage 16 may be slipped thereunder. This part of the bandage "ice holder is positioned lowermost so that this flange gives support to the lower end of the bandage.

17, 18 and '19 serve to compress side and end areas of the bandage material and the inner area of the bandage material is, of course, allowed to puff out to form a padding against the wound on the wearers limb. Padding may also be provided to the clip or supported

12, 13, 14 and 15 in the form of sleeves which may be placed thereover and which provide soft material against the wearers skin.

In FIG. 4 there is shown a bandage holder having a body 21 which is of relatively flat and thin material. The bandage 26 is placed thereon and held by end and side flanges the same as the bandage 16 is held on body 10 as shown in FIGS. 1, 2 and 3. The

While I have shown and described a preferred form of the invention, it will be apparent that the invention is capable of variation and modification from the form shown so that the scope thereof should 'be limited only by the scope of the claims appended hereto.

What I claim is:

1. In a bandage holder of the class described, the combination of a body member, said body member having inwardly turned side flanges, a bandage positioned against said body member having the side portions thereof compressed and inserted under said flanges, said body member having a plurality of perforations therethrough facing the side of said bandage that is against said body member to provide ventilation to said bandage and supporting means attached to the end portions of said member for holding said body member and said bandage against the wounded limb of the wearer.

A bandage holder as set forth in claim 1, further characterized in that said bandage holder supporting means comprises resilient clip-like members attached to the end portions of said body member, said resilient cliplike members being adapted to partially encircle the wearers limb to hold the bandage holder and bandage in place thereon.

A bandage holder as set forth in claim 1, further characterized in that said body member is provided with a plurality of slots in the end portions thereof, and said supporting means comprises a pair of straps, one of said straps being adapted to be fitted through the slots at one end portion of said body member and the other of said straps adapted to be threaded through the slots at the other end portion of said body members.

Claims

1. IN A BANDAGE HOLDER OF THE CLASS DESCRIBED, THE COMBINATION OF A BODY MEMBER, SAID BODY MEMBER HAVING INWARDLY TURNED SIDE FLANGES, A BANDAGE POSITIONED AGAINST SAID BODY MEMBER HAVING THE SIDE PORTIONS THEREOF COMPRESSED AND INSERTED UNDER SAID FLANGES, SAID BODY MEMBER HAVING A PLURALITY OF PERFORATIONS THERETHROUGH FACING THE SIDE OF SAID BANDAGE THAT IS AGAINST SAID BODY MEMBER TO PROVIDE VENTILATION TO SAID BANDAGE AND SUPPORTING MEANS ATTACHED TO THE END PORTIONS OF SAID MEMBER FOR HOLDING SAID BODY MEMBER AND SAID BANDAGE AGAINST THE WOUNDED LIMB OF THE WATER.
