IRONING TABLE. No. 332,404. r Patented Dec. 15, 1885.
Zi/z'fhesg UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FELIX A. LEROH, OF MOUNT CARMEL, PENNSYLVANIA.
IRONlNG-TABLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 332,404, dated December 15, 1885.
Application filed July 3, 1884. Serial No.136,745.
.To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FELIX A. LERCH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mount Carmel, in the county of Northumberland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsiu Ironing- Boards; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accoinpanying drawings, and to the letters and ligures of reference marked thereon, whieh form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in ironing-boards or tables, and has for its object a speedy and convenient adjustment of the same; and to this end the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and specifically pointed out in the claim.
In the annexed drawings, Figurel is a plan view of my device. Fig. 2 is a side elevation, and Fig. 3 is a section on line ac x of Fig. 2.
A represents a rectangular frame provided with legs or feet B B B B, which support the table. This frame at each end has journaled therein Crossbars O O, which support at their lower ends adjustable diagonal braces D D D D, The inner braces, D D, are provided with slots (1 (I, through which passes a crossbar, E, the ends thereof being made fast in the braces D D at a point a little above the center of said braces, the other ends of the braces D D being secured by hinge-joint eonnectionsin a cross bar or cleat, e, on the under side of the table, near the larger end thereof. The free ends of the braces D D are provided with a metallic plate, F, rigidly secured thereto, and the ends of this plate are perforated, so that it can be secured to said braces D D by screws or nails, and theupper side,at a point where the free ends of the braces terminate, is bent upwardly, so as to enable it to engage with two rack-bars,
(No model.)
G G, placed parallel with each other and rigidly secured by screws or other suitable means to the under side of an ironing-table, H, the said ironing-table having also secured upon its under side, near the small end,a cleat or bar, h, which fits within the angle of the plate F when the ironing-table H and frame A are folded together for transportation or are not in use. The cleat it, upon the under side of the table-top H,is provided for the purpose of enabling the plate F to abut against it when the table is folded closely together.
Secured to the diagonal braces D D by screws or in any well-known manner, and extending from the point where the braces D D D D cross each other to the lower ends of the braces D D,are two auxiliary or additional braces, I I, crossing each other in the form of the letter X, which serve to give increased strength to the braces D D D D aforesaid.
\Vhen it is necessary to use the ironingtable, the operator can adjust the same very expeditiously to suit her height and prevent unnecessary labor by fitting the plate secured to the free ends of the inner braces within the rack-bars at any convenient point desired, and by this means a person can vary the height to suit themselves.
My device is simple in its construction, durable, and easily operated, and can be readily packed and unpacked for transportation, occupying when packed but little space or room.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In an ironing-table, the combination, with the table-top H, provided upon its under side with the rack-bars G, of the slotted braces D, legs or braces D, crossbar E, plate F, crossbars 0, and frame A, all constructed and arranged as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FELIX A. LERCH.
