Description

Oct. 10, 1967 K. D. CRUSIUS 3,346,732
MULTI-COLORED DR Filed May 16, 1966 INVENTOR. K a T I Die ZeT C rus/bs United States Patent 3,346,732 MULTI-COLORED DRUM LIGHTING SYSTEM Karl Dieter Crusius, Monterey, Calif. (1206 Funston Ave., Pacific Grove, Calif. 93950) Filed May 16, 1966, Ser. No. 550,223 5 Claims. (Cl. 240-3.1)
This invention relates to illuminative devices for musical instruments, and more particularly a multi-colored lighting system for drums.
It is, therefore, the main purpose of this invention to provide a multi-colored lighting system for drums for emphasizing the affinity between the musical tones and the illuminative effect.
Another object of this invention is to provide a multicolored lighting system for drums adapted to produce color combinations during the tonal performance.
Another object of this invention is to provide a multicolored lighting system for drums which is positioned within the drum body and being arranged for convenient and easy removal from the drum body.
Still another object of this invention is to provide a multi-colored lighting system for drums which is inexpensive to install, uses household-type electric current and is of rugged construction and provides maximum illuminative effect to its user.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, wherein a satisfactory embodiment of the invention is shown. However, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the details disclosed but includes all such variations and modifications as fall within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.
The sole drawing shows the installation of said lighting system within a drum.
According to this invention, a multi-colored lighting system is suitably positioned within a circular drum 11 which is supported on a plurality of legs 12 having cup-like rubber covers thereon for preventing drum 11 from sliding. A generally circular, adjustable supporting ring 14 is provided with an incision or cut-out 14' for suitably expanding and reducing the diameter of the supporting ring 14. A ring-nut and screw arrangement 15 is provided at the overlapping cutout portions 14 for adjustably securing ring 14 Within the circular drum 11. A plurality of outwardly extending projections 16 are secured to the outside portion of said ring. Each projection 16 is provided with a rubber shoe 17 for abutting each projection 16 against the inner wall of drum 11. Rubber shoes 17 also keep ring 14 from sliding within the drum 11. A plurality of equally spaced, substantially rectangular sockets 18 are secured to the inner portion of the supporting ring 14 by means of screws 20'.
It will also be noted that each socket 18 is adapted to hold a plurality of bulbs 19, preferably each bulb being of a different color. Electric wire 21 is adapted to secure and provide electric current to said bulbs within the socket 18. The end portion of wire 21 terminates within a household-type plug 22 which is adapted to provide the conventional power source for illuminating said bulbs 19. It should be noted that during the performance that is, when a plurality of external impacts are applied to the drum 11, a differently colored bulb 19 will start blinking so that different combinations of colorful lights may be visible, such as, rainbow effects, etc.
While a plurality of colorful bulbs are shown within the drum 11, if desired, a single bulb or a reduced number of bulbs may be employed in accordance with the scope and spirit of this invention.
What I now claim is:
1. A multi-colored lighting system for drums comprising, in combination, a circular drum body and expandable and collapsable supporting ring within said drum, a plurality of equally spaced, radially disposed projections extending from said supporting ring, a rubber shoe on the end portion of said each projection, said rubber shoes abutting the interior wall of said drum body for preventing said ring from rotating Within said body, a plurality of substantially rectangular sockets extending inwardly from within said ring, a plurality of bulbs having different colors within each socket and electric wire having a plug for providing electric current to said bulbs for illuminating said drum.
2. The combination according to claim 1, wherein, at least a pair of legs are extending from the exterior of said drum body for spacing said body from the ground, and the end portion of said leg being provided with a rubber cover for preventing said drum body from sliding.
3. The combination according to claim 1, wherein, the end portions of said ring are provided with overlapping members thereby providing interchanging means for said ring to be used with the drum bodies of diiferent diameter.
4. The combination according to claim 3, wherein a ring nut and screw arrangement is provided for securing said end portions of said ring to each other.
5. The combination according to claim 1 wherein said sockets are firmly affixed within said ring by means of a plurality of removable screws.
