ABSTRACT F THE DISCLOSURE For use by policemen, members of the National Guard, peace-keeping law enforcing individuals when attempting to quell mobsters, rioters and unruly groups of people, and more particularly for use by members of the Armed Forces; a heavy duty shoe or alternatively a combat boot and wherein the bottom of the boot is equipped with rigid weapon means. The means is characterized by forward and rearward toothed striking blades which are adapted to increase the wearers offensive capability and defensive skill and to prepare him for coniiict and battling with an aggressive enemy.

This invention relates to a weapon which is expressly designed and adapted to effectually and reliably increase the attack capability and life defending skill of a user thereof and which, in so doing, serves to prepare him for defensive action when called upon to vcombat an aggressive enemy on the field of battle.

Although the weapon herein revealed is capable of protective and menacing use by policemen, members of the National Guard and peace-keeping law enforcing individuals when undertaking to quell mobsters, rioters and unruly, often violent groups of people; it is primarily intended for use by members of the armed forces (soldiers, marines, and the like) when engaged in guerrilla Warfare and when called upon to cope with the dangers inherent in hand-to-hand combat with a hostile enemy. Also, and by way of introduction, the weapon herein disclosed has to do with auxiliary life defending means, that is, equipment which is intended to supplement the varied defense equipment which is currently being used by GI servicemen. Stated otherwise, the weapon which will be hereinafter more fully disclosed has to do with simple and practical means which is a part of the uniform, so to speak, and is accordingly ever ready and present to be brought into play if and when needed.

To the ends desired, one or both combat boots are modified, that is, the sole and heel portions of the boots bottom are provided with rigid forwardly and rearwardly projecting enemy striking blades. These blades are provided with spur-like cutting and pain inflicting teeth. The wearer is trained to use not only his arms and hands but his legs and feet and, thus prepared, his chances to defend and protect himself are greatly increased. It follows that the objective of the present invention is to enhance the users capability for waging war with competent aggressiveness and to eliectively strive to save his life or, as is often necessary, the life of a nearby comrade. Once the enemy realizes that he is up against an aggressive well trained fully equipped GI he is not only subdued but is ready to surrender to save his own life.

Brieiiy, the invention comprises at least one combat boot whose bottom is equipped (detachably or permanently) with weapon means which is designed and adapted to increase the wearers offensive capability and defensive skill and to accordingly prepare him for conflict when, for example, battling with and combating an aggressive enemy.

More specifically, the invention is preferably in the form of a prefabricated ready-to-use attachment. This attachment comprises an adapter plate capable of being superimposed upon and xedly mounted on the bottom of said boot, said plate having a striking blade fixed on and projecting beyond a forward end of said plate, also having a similar striking blade liXed on and projecting beyond a rearward end of said plate, said blades having pointed saw-like cutting and pain inflicting teeth capable of delivering a mortal blow to an enemy in battle.

These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

FIG. 1 is a View in perspective showing a shoe, more particularly a combat boot, which is essentially conventional in construction but is unique in that it is provided with the improved weapon constituting the subject matter of the present invention.

FIG. 2 is a bottom plan view on an enlarged scale of the shoe or boot shown in FIG. 1.

FIG. 3 is a view in edge elevation detailing the attachment-type weapon and showing the boot in phantom lines.

FIG. 4 is an enlarged fragmentary view with the illustrated parts appearing in section taken on the plane of the section line 4 4 of FIG. 1.

And FIG. 5 is a similar enlarged detail sectional view taken on the plane of the section line 5-5 of FIG. 1.

By way of introduction to the description of the overall concept in detail it is to be pointed out that broadly construed the invention has to do with heavy duty footwear, more specifically, a shoe such as might be worn by a policeman or law enforcing otlicer, or a somewhat heavier type referred to broadly as a combat boot. Inasmuch as it is not desirable to limit the weapon means as applied to a combat boot, the term shoe is used in the title of the invention. However, it is to be understood that the invention pertains to shoes and boots such as are customarily or commonly worn by persons who, in carrying out duty requirements, are called upon to use guns, bayonets, firearms and self-defending weapons.

With reference in particular to FIG. 1 the combat boot is denoted by the numeral 8 and is conventional in that it includes a commonly constructed upper denoted generally at 10 and a heavy duty bottom including a sole portion 12, heel portion 14, a connecting shank 16 between the heel and sole portions. The leading or toe of the sole portion is denoted conveniently at 18 and the forward or leading edge of the heel portion is denoted at 20. In keeping with the underlying principles of this invention the weapon means, broadly stated, may vary in construction but has to do with an adaptation which can be either permanently attached or built into the bottom of the shoe or boot, or may be attachable and detachable whereby it can be applied and removed in keeping with the requirements for use by the GI user.

The expression weapon means is also herein ernployed to designate and comprehend any suitable and practical construction and arrangement such as that which is herein shown as exemplary of the invention and which is accordingly characterized by forwardly and rearwardly projecting spur-like, striking, cutting and pain inflicting implements. In carrying out a preferred embodiment of the invention projecting heel and toe implements are provided. The forwardly projecting one is designated as a bla-de 22 which is arcuate in plan and which is carried by and projects forwardly beyond a correspondingly arcuate or segmental abutment-flange 24. The blade is serrated to thus provide a plurality of rigid suitably pointed saw-like teeth 26. This lianged overall toothed blade is denoted as an entity by the numeral 28. A correspondingly constructed but rearwardly projecting striking, cutting and pain inflicting blade is also provided and is denoted by the numeral 30. `As shown best in FIG. 5 this rearward blade is specifically designated at 32 and is carried by an abutment flange 34 which abuts the rear surface of and conforms to the contour of the heel as at 36. This blade `is also serrated to provide rigid rearwardly pointed teeth 38. This toothed blade is also segmental or arcuate in plan as is evident from FIG. 2. An adapter plate such as is denoted at 40 is provided as attaching means for the toothed blades. The plate comprises a sole portion 42 and a heel portion 44 these portions being secured in place by screws or equivalent fasteners 46. The adjacent portions of the

42 and 44 are joined by a conformable shank 48 having an abutment or shoulder 59 abutting the shoulder 20 of the aforementioned heel.

As is evident when the adapter plate 40 is superimposed upon the bottom of the shoe the

42, 44 and 48 are then secured in place. The toothed blades occupy the relative position and relationship shown and are in a plane common with each other and also in a plane above the lowermost plane of the sole and heel portions of the shoe or boot bottom.

The manner in which the GI or other wearer utilizes his weaponequipped combat boot (or boots) will depend to some extent on his inate instinct but for the most part on and in accordance with the training he receives from those who best understand the battling requirements involved in guerrilla warfare. Accordingly, a more extensive description of the invention is deemed to be unnecessary.

The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes wilil readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.

What is claimed as new is as follows:

1. Inrcombination, a heavy duty shoe designed and adapted to be worn by policemen, members of the National Guard, soldiers and other members -of an armed force andembodying an upper and complemental underlying bottom including sole, heel and shank portions, and weapon means underlying and xedly mounted on said sole, heel and shank portions and providing a self-contained part of the over-all shoe, said means being designed and adapted to increase the Wearers offensive capability and defensive skill and to accordingly prepare him for conflict when, for example, battling with and combatingan aggressive enemy, said weapon means embodying several cooperating integrated relatively fixed component parts, a first one of said parts comprising a rigid enemy attacking and pain inflicting blade having a leading edge provided from end to end with coplanar rigid teeth, said toothed blade being in a plane with and projecting forwardly beyond the forward toe portion of said sole portion.

2. The combination according to claim 1, and wherein a second one of said partslikewise comprises a similar blade having a plurality `of rigid enemy attacking and pain inflicting teeth, the latter projecting rearwardly beyond the rearward vertical surface of the heel portion of said shoe.

3. In combination, a conventional-type shoe embodying the usual upper and complemental underlying bottom including sole, heel and shank portions, and Weapon means carried `by said bottom and constituting a self contained part of said shoe, said means being designed and adapted to increase the Wearers offensive capability and defensive skill and to accordingly prepare him for conict when, for example, battling with and combating an aggressive enemy, said means embodying several cooperating component parts, a first one of said parts comprising a multiple rigid toothed enemy attacking and pain inflicting blade with the teeth thereof in a plane common with and projecting forwardly beyond the toe portion of said Sole portion, a second one of said parts likewise comprising a similar blade having a plurality of rigid enemy attacking and pain inflicting teeth, said bilade and teeth projecting rearwardly beyond a rearward vertical surface of the heel portion of said shoe, cach blade being segmental in plan and lateral to and carried by an arcuate fiange, said fianges being alike and of a curvature to conformingly firmly abut the coactin'g curvate peripheral marginal portions of said sole and heel portions respectively, said blades being copilanar and disposed in a common plane above the plane of the underneath surfaces of said sole and heel portions respectively.

4. The combination according to claim 3 and wherein the third component part comprises an adapter plate embodying sole, heel and shank portions conforming in shape to and underlying and affixed to the sole, heel and shank portions of said shoe.

5. A one-piece offensive and defensive attachment for fixed attachment to the over-all bottom of a soildiers combat boot and adapted for feasibe use when the wearer is called upon to do battle in guerrilla warfare, said attachment designed to prepare and adapt the boot for close and possible hand-to-hand combat usage and comprising: an adapter plate adapted to be superimposed uponand fixedly mounted on the bottom of said boot, said plate having a striking blade fixed on and projecting beyond a forward end of said plate, also having a similar striking blade xed on and projecting beyond a rearward end of said plate, said blades having pointed saw-like cutting and pain infiicting teeth on terminal marginal edge portions capable of delivering a mortal blow to an enemy in battle, said plate embodying integrated sole, heel and shank portions conformingly applicable to and connectible with the usua'l sole, heel and shank portions of said boot bottom, said shank portion being connected to said heel portion by a complemental bent portion, said bent portion constituting and defining a stop shoulder and said shoulder being designed and adapted to bear against a forward surface of the heel portion of said boot.

An attachment for the bottom of a soldiers combat boot and adapted for use when the wearer is called upon to do battle in guerrilla warfare, said attachment designed to prepare and adapt the boot for close and possible handto-hand combat usage and comprising: an adapter plate adapted to be superimposed upon and fixedly mounted on the bottom `of said boot, said plate having a striking blade fixed on and projecting beyond a forward end of said plate, also having a similar striking blade fixed on and projecting beyond a rearward end of said plate, said blades having pointed saw-like cutting and pain inliicting teeth capable of delivering a mortal blow to an enemy in battle, each blade being segmental in plan, lateral to, and carried by an arcuate liange, said flanges being aflike and of a curvature to conformingly rmly abut the coacting curvate peripheral marginal portions of said sole and heel portions respectively, said blades being coplanar and disposed in a common plane above the plane of the underneath surfaces of said sole and heel portions respectively.

Claims

1. IN COMBINATION, A HEAVY DUTY SHOE DESIGNED AND ADAPTED TO BE WORN BY POLICEMEN, MEMBERS OF THE NATIONAL GUARD, SOLDIERS AND OTHERS MEMBERS OF AN ARMED FORCE AND EMBODYING AN UPPER AND COMPLEMENTAL UNDERLYING BOTTOM INCLUDING SOLE, HEEL AND SHANK PORTIONS, AND WEAPON MEANS UNDERLYING AND FIXEDLY MOUNTED ON SAID SOLE, HEEL AND SHANK PORTIONS AND PROVIDING A SELF-CONTAINED PART OF THE OVER-ALL SHOE, SAID MEANS BEING DESIGNED AND ADAPTED TO INCREASE THE WEARERS OFFENSIVE CAPABILITY AND DEFENSIVE SKILL AND TO ACCORDINGLY PREPARE HIM FOR CONFLICT WHEN, FOR EXAMPLE, BATTLING WITH AND COMBATING AN AGGRESSIVE ENEMY, SAID WEAPON MEANS EMBODYING SEVERAL COOPERATING INTEGRATED RELATIVELY FIXED COMPONENT PARTS, A FIRST ONE OF SAID PARTS COMPRISING A RIGID ENEMY ATTACKING AND PAIN INFLECTING BLADE HAVING A LEADING EDGE PROVIDED FROM END TO END WITH COPLANAR RIGID TEETH, SAID TOOTHED BLADE BEING IN A PLANE WITH AND PROJECTING FORWARDLY BEYOND THE FORWARD TOE PORTION OF SAID SOLE PORTION.
