Description

CLEANING DEVICE Filed July 8, 1966 IN V EN TOR.
a George MLowe United States Patent 7 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A device for rubbing against a persons body, the device containing soap or shampoo which is released therefrom upon the persons body, the device having a handle at each opposite end so that it may be conveniently handled in being drawn across the body skin.
This invention relates to cleansing devices and more particularly a cleansing strap.
It is therefore the main purpose of this invention to provide a cleansing strap for providing the cleansing action of the human skin which is adapted to admit cleansing solution released by said strap.
Another object of this invention is to provide a cleansing strap which assumes an elongated configuration and is sufficiently flexible to reach any part of the human body.
Another object of this invention is to provide a cleansing strap which is hygienically safe and may be used with liquid soap, shampoo and the like.
Still another object of this invention is to provide a cleansing strap which is inexpensive to produce, may be moderately priced, is of simple construction, and provides maximum utility to its user.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, wherein a satisfactory embodiment of the invention is shown. However, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the details disclosed but includes all such variations and modifications as fall within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.
In the drawing:
FIGURE 1 is a top edge view of this invention;
FIGURE 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of one of the handle members and an adjoining portion of the strap body in accordance with the invention;
FIGURE 3 is an end view of this invention;
FIGURE 4 is an enlarged fragmentary section taken on lines 4-4 of FIGURE 5;
FIGURE 5 is a fragmentary view of the outer face portion of the strap body in accordance with this invention;
FIGURE 6 is a modified end view of this invention;
FIGURE 7 is a face view of the modified form of this invention.
According to this invention, a cleansing strap 10 is provided with a pair of handles 11. Each handle 11 is of generally elongated, tapered configuration and its end portion is provided with a plug member '12 for suitably securing the cleansing solution within the hollow inlet 13 and the hollow space 16 of the elongated strap portion 15. The outer portion of each handle 11 is provided with a Patented Mar. 4, 1969 plurality of friction rings 14 which provide gripping means to each handle 11. Both face portions of the flattened strap 15 are provided with a plurality of outwardly extending, conically shaped projections 17. Each projection is provided with a hole 18 which directly communicates with the hollow space 16 containing the cleansing solution.
Looking now at the FIGURES 6 and 7, one will see that in its modified form the invention provides for an arrangement having handles 19, plugs 20 and generally similar strap portion 21. Like in the preferred embodiment, portion 21 is provided with a hollow space 22 which contains the solution which passes through one wall 24 into the conically shaped projections 23. However, this arrangement applies only to one side of the modified strap portion 21. The other side of said portion is adhesively secured to a resilient, porous member 25.
It will also be noted that, in operation, liquid soap or shampoo is poured into the hollow inlet 13 of the handle 11. Plug member 12 is then snugly inserted into the opening of said handle for suitably locating said liquid soap or shampoo within the hollow space 16 of the flexible strap portion 15. Then said fastening strap is held by the handles 11 and is pulled across the skin of a human body, the cleansing solution within the hollow portion 16 is released to the holes 18 of the projections 17 thereby causing cleansing action on the human skin.
The solution is maintained within the space 16 by surface tension created from the combination of the small size of the finger orifice 18 and the viscosity of the solution. The solution is then dispensed when the strap frictionally abuts the skin by the compression of the squeezing action on the fingers 17 and the compression created by the flexing or squeezing of the body portion of the strap 15. Also the contact of the solution held in the orifices by surface tension with moisture on the skin will cause a dispensing of the solution from the strap by reducing the viscosity of the solution.
What I now claim is:
1. A cleansing strap for dispensing cleansing solution comprising an elongated flexible strap; face portions on opposite sides of said strap; an elongated hollow space extending longitudinally of said strap, between the face portions, adapted to receive cleansing solution; a plurality of outwardly extending projections on at least one of said face portions; a hole centrally located in'each projection in communication with the hollow space between the face portions; a grasping member disposed at each end of the strap; a fill passage communicating with the hollow space between the face portions; and a closure member for closing and sealing the passage, whereby cleansing solution in the space is dispensed through the holes when said projections are pressed against a surface.
2. The combination called for in claim 1 wherein the grasping members are handles and the passage extends longitudinally through one of the handles, and the closure member is a plug removably secured in the outer end of the passage.
3. The combination called for in claim 2 wherein the passage has a threaded portion at one end thereof and the plug threadedly engages said threaded portion.
4. The combination called for in claim 2 with the addition of friction means on each handle to facilitate gripping same.
