INVENTOR Ne Ll Le WLS B ATTORNEY United States Patent US. Cl. 272-81 1 Claim ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An arm exercising device comprising a vertical and horizontal board joined together to form an angular sup port for mounting on the edge of a table, a mounting plate adjustably mounted on the outer face of the vertical board, a shaft projecting outwardly from the mounting plate, an operating lever having a rectangular plate at its lower end pivotally mounted on said shaft, a weight arm having its upper end U-shape and straddling said rectangular plate, means for securing said weight arm to said rectangular plate in different angular positions, weights removably mounted on said weight arms, and removable means mounted on said mounting plate for supporting said weight arms in a raised position while applying and removing the weights.
This invention relates to muscle developing devices and more particularly to a hand wrestling apparatus.
Broadly, the invention comprises a portable exerciser of solid steel construction, with built in durability, a completely new concept for an arm wrestling machine, modern in design and inexpensive to produce. The device, per se, is mounted on a vertically disposed board and a horizontally disposed member is secured to said vertical member so that the device can be rested on a table top while it is being used.
Since the device is not fastened in any way and can easily be taken apart, it requires very little storage space and is easily transported.
The main object of the invention is therefore the provision of a hand wrestling apparatus which, when used will simulate opposition and which can be adjusted for very strong and less strong users.
Another important object is the provision of a device which is compact and easily transported.
With these and other objects in view that may appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel arrangement of cooperating elements as hereinafter more specifically set forth, claimed and shown in the accompanying drawing forming part of this application and in Whcih:
FIGURE 1 is a side elevational view of an arm wrestling device constructed in accordance with the present invention.
FIGURE 2 is a side elevational view of the device.
Referring more in detail to the drawing in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout both views, it will be seen the invention comprises a vertically disposed rectangular board 5 and a horizontally disposed one 6 secured to said first mentioned board to form a support for the apparatus.
The device, per se, comprises a lever arm 7 provided with a handle at its free upper extremity and a substantially rectangular plate 8 welded at its other extremity. The rectangular plate 8 is provided with an aperture, medially thereof and two pairs of diametrically opposite holes for the purpose of securing thereto a weight arm 9 as illustrated in FIGURE 1, the weight arm can be mounted to operate the device with the right arm, and transferred on the opposite side to operate the device with the left arm. The weight arm 9 is provided with a U- c CC shaped member 10 which straddles said plate 8 and is provided with apertures adapted to align with the apertures in said plate for securing said weight arm in posi tion by means of bolts and nuts. The weight arm assembly is secured to a mounting plate 11. The said mounting plate is rectangular and is provided with a shaft 12 on which is rotatably mounted the operating arm 7 and is held thereto by means of a collar. At the rear of the vertical board 5 is located a backing plate 13. The backing plate is provided with a pair of bolts 14 which are welded in position and are adapted to register within a pair of elongated holes 15 formed in the mounting plate 11 to make the device adjustable vertically.
It will be noted that the operating arm 7 is bent inwardly at 7a and outwardly at 7b so'that the handle 8 lines with the outer edge of the horizontal board 6 to facilitate the operation of the device.
As illustrated in FIGURE 1 of the accompanying drawing the device is set to be operated by the right arm. When it is desired to change arm, the weight arm securing bolts 16 are removed and the arm repositioned on the plate 11 as illustrated in dotted lines. To hold the device in position while adding or removing barbell weights 16, the invention provides tubes 17 equidistantly spaced from the center of the plate 11 within which a pin 17a is inserted. The pin 17a is removed during the operation of the device.
T 0 provide for the addition of barbell weights to the weight arm, the invention provides a pair of adjustable collars 20 mounted on said arm. These collars will permit the addition of weights or the relocating of same.
It is believed that the construction and advantages have been fully set forth and that further detailed description is not required.
While the preferred embodiment of the invention has been fully set forth, it is to be understood that minor modifications may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:
1. An arm exercising device comprising a support composed of a vertical and horizontal board for mounting on the edge of a table, a mounting plate on the outer face of said vertical board, a backing plate on the inner face of said vertical board, bolts extending through the mounting plate, vertical board and backing plate securing the mounting plate in position, a shaft extending outwardly from sad mounting plate, an operating lever having at its lower end a rectangular plate pivotally mounted on said shaft, a weight arm having its upper end U-shape and straddling said rectangular plate, means for securing said weight arm to said rectangular plate in different angular relations to said operating lever, weights mounted on said weight arm, collars adjustably mounted on said weight arm to secure said weights in position, and removable tubes mounted on said mounting plate beneath said weight arm to support said weight arm in a raised position while applyng or removing the weights.
