SUN BATHING DEVICE Filed Feb. 7, 1968 INVENTORv JOSEPH f. LEAH) United States Patent O 3,475,050 SUN BATHING DEVICE Joseph E. Leahy, 90 Woodland Drive, Pleasantville, N.Y. 10570 Filed Feb. 7, 1968, Ser. No. 703,774 Int. Cl. A470 4/00; A47d 1/02 US. Cl. 29717 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A device for sun bathing in which the human body can be held in relaxed position to receive the rays of the sun directly and at the same time, the rays are reflected onto portions of the body not in the direct path whereby substantially all of the body is exposed simultaneously.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS In the drawings:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of my invention in use;
FIG. 2 is a plan view thereof;
FIG. 3 is a side view thereof;
FIGS. 4 and 5 are enlarged detail views of parts thereof;
FIG. 6 is a perspective view of my invention in par tially collapsed position; and
FIG. 7 is a view showing my invention in fully collapsed and folded position.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Referring now to FIGS. 1-7, my lounge chair comprises seat, back and leg supporting panels A, B and C, each having a a tubular rectangular frame 10 covered with a strong supporting mesh 12. Adjacent frames are secured to each other by hinges 14. Associated with each hinge set is a conventional ratchet mechanism 16 controlling a support which takes the form of a U with legs 18 and horizontal connecting bar 20. Each bar has protective pads 22.
Patented Oct. 28, 1969 Disposed below the panels on a surface such as ground is a sheet having foldable sections 24, 26, 28, 30, 32 and 34 with an upper light reflecting coating which reflects light passing downward through the mesh upwards to strike the bottom portions of the sun bathers body 36 as previously described.
The sheet when folded forms a hollow suitcase 38 in which the chair in collapsed form can be stored. The chair can have a handle 40 and carrying strap 42.
Back and leg panels can each have a protective cover 44 for the head and feet of a user.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A sun bathing device comprising a collapsible lounge chair having interconnected seat,
back and leg supporting panels which can be adjusted into a variety of body supporting positions including virtually extended horizontal relation so that a user can recline in prone position for sun bathing, each panel being sunlight permeable; and
a foldable sun reflecting sheet adapted to be disposed underneath said chair to reflect upwards, against the body of a user, the sunlight which has passed downwardly through said panels whereby a user can bathe substantially all of his body in the sun simultaneously, said sheet being dimensioned so as to fold into a container for storing the chair in a collapsed condition.
2. A device as set forth in claim 1 wherein each of said panels has a tubular frame disposed about its periphery and a body supporting mesh stretched across said frame.
3. A device as set forth in claim 2 wherein said sheet has a lower surface adapted to rest upon the ground or other supoprt, said sheet having an upper surface which reflects sunlight.
4. A device as set forth in claim 3 wherein said chair is provided with supporting legs which rest on said sheet, said legs having protective pads to prevent damage to said sheet.
5. A device as set forth in claim 4 further including manually adjustable ratchet means for setting the relative positions beween said panels to define the various body supporting positions.
