Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,`
flL'lilAM A. LlGllTlIALL, OF NET YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN POTABLE-WATER GONDENSERS.
Speciication forming part of Letters Patent No. 35,029, dated April 22, 1862.
To all z/f'z/om, i?? may concern.-
Be it known that l, WTLLIAM A. LTGHTHALL, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Im proveinent in (ondcusers forhlaking Potable Water from Salt or other vater Unfit for Potable Purposes; and l do hereby declare that the following is :t tnll and exact description of the, saine, reference being' had t0 the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in Which- Figure l is a central longitudinal vertical section; and Fig. 2, a trailsversc-sectioii taken through the line .1', Fig. l.
My invention is an improvement upon the one secured tome by Letters Patent of the p United States bearing date oit' December l, 1R61; and it consists in combining' with the eondenser shown and described in said lieti ters Patent (to which reference is hereby made) a. series ol tubes placed beneath the y drip-plate for the purpose of cooling` the condensed Water after passing` through the d ripi plate into the (ilrip-reservoir prior to its being taken oft or away from the condenser to the l tanks or other reeeptaeles placed to receive it. 2
The case otl the condenser, its divisionplates and tubes, and its drip-plate and dripreservoir being constructed and arranged the same as those shown and described in the Letters Patent above named, the only alteration (constituting init-s combina-tion with the above my improvement) is that the drip-reservoir A iS fitted with a series of tubes, B, through which a portion of the supply of cooling Water that is supplied to the condenser in its upper section 'of tubes to condense the steam is passed to cool the condensed Water as it pasces into the drip-reservoir A, and before it is carried ott from the condenser to the tanks or other receptacles fitted to receive it.
That I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, with the drip-reservoir A and drip-plate E, of the series of coolingtubes B, arranged and operated as and for the purpose herein set forth.
L A. lil GHTI-IALL.
