Cl. -325 2 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention consists of a U-shaped spring clamp which is made of plastic and to the upper surface of which is integrally formed a pressure type of clamp having a serrated jaw adapted to firmly hold a pillow when the aforesaid U-shaped spring clamp is placed on the upper end of the mattress of a hospital bed, thereby firmly holding the pillow no matter at what angle the mattress may be raised for the comfort of the patient.

This invention relates to clamps, and more particularly, to a clamp for the securing of a pillow to a hospital bed.

It is the principal object of this invention to provide a clamp of the character described that will, as the title of this invention implies, firmly hold a pillow to the mattress of a hospital bed.

Another object of this invention is to provide a clamp of the character described that will work regardless of the angle of the head of the hospital bed.

Still another object of this invention is to provide a clamp of the character described that is so constructed that it can readily be thoroughly cleaned in a minimum of time and with a minimum of effort.

Still another object of this invention is to provide a clamp of the character described that contains only one moving part and is therefore a practical device that will under normal usage have a long life without getting out of order.

Other and further objects and advantages of this invention will come to mind as the reading of this specification proceeds and the accompanying drawing is examined.

In the drawing, like parts are indicated by like reference characters throughout the several views.

Directing ones attention to FIGURE 3 of the accompanying drawing, it will be seen that this invention consists of a U-shaped spring clamp that is made of plastic cast in one piece that has enlarged ends 11 and a pillow holding clamp 12 which is made integral with the just mentioned spring clamp adapted to encompass in part the upper end of the mattress 13 of a hospital bed which 3,506,988 Patented Apr. 21, 1970 is indicated in the accompanying drawing by the reference character 14.

Returning now to the aforesaid pillow holding clamp 12 shown in FIGURE 3 of the drawing, it will be seen that this clamp embodies an engularly disposed member 15 having a serrated upper edge 16 and a handle 17 supported by the vertical member 18. The lower and angularly disposed edge 19 of the handle 17 is serrated to match the aforesaid serrated upper edge 16 of this part of the invention. A handle 20 for the entire invention is indicated by the reference character 21 in FIGURES 2 and 3 of the accompanying drawing.

The optional form of pillow clamp illustrated in FIG- URES 4 and 5 is made of cast zinc. The clamp is made of two integrally formed and spaced side members 22 between which is swingably located the arm 23 on the laterally disposed pin 24 that has each end extending into one of the aforesaid side members 22. The aforesaid arm 23 has one end terminating in a head 25 that is provided with an angularly disposed serrated edge 26, while the other end of the aforesaid arm 23 terminates in one end of the angularly disposed handle 27.

It is to be understood that other types of pillow clamps can be incorporated in this invention without departing from the spirit and intent of the appended claims. This invention, whose method of use is self-explanatory when one examines the appended drawing, is also subject to any other changes or modifications one may care to make in the same in so long as the changes and/or modifications fall within the scope and intent of the appended claims.

What I now claim as new is:

1. A clamp for securing a pillow to a hospital bed comprising a U-shaped clamp of spring material, the clamp having a straight central portion and ends extending at right angles to said central portion and substantially parallel to each other, all parts of the clamp being in substantially the same plane, and a movable jaw clamp secured to one of said ends and lying in said plane, the extremities of said ends are enlarged in said plane and rounded.

2. The combination of claim 1 in which the movable jaw clamp extends along said end and faces in the same direction as the U-shaped clamp.
