Description

UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFICE.
T.- S. LAMBERT, OF PEEKSKILL, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT .lN BOILERS AND TEA-KETTLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 35,455.. dated June 3, 1862.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, T. S. LAMBERT, of Peekskill,Westchester county, New YorkState, have invented a new and Improved Boiler; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and the letters marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in providing a bail and log so adapted to each other that the weight of the boiler will make the lug sustain the bail at right angles to the upper surface of the boiler when it isinclined toward the spout, as in pouring out its contents, while the bail can readily be turned down when the boiler is restingon its bottom.
It also consists in applying a' cover of the boiler, by means of an arm, to the same lug in,
.Fig. 3, rests upon the shoulder the cover may evenly rest upon the boiler-top at max, Fig. 2. The breadth of the shoulder must depend upon the size and weight of the cover.
shoulder the pivot should be grooved upon the spout or upon that and the opposite sides, as shown at the top of the pivot a, Fig. 2, and a Above thehole drilled through for the passage of the bail.
The portions of that which are turned to pass through the lugs must be sufficiently long to allow the necessary motion of the bail into and out of the front groove ofthe lug.
The arm of the cover, Fig. 3, must be made with a hole fitting around thepivot-lug above its shoulder and opening behind, so as to allow the bail to slip through, and with a slight notch in front, as seen in Fig. 3, to allow the more ready removal of the cover when desirable.
The lug may be made with aslot, as in Fig.4, and a wire passed through from side to side to secure the bail. It may be cast, or formed of sheet metal, as in Fig. 5. The top is shown.
The sides of the bail may turn back and catch on the sides of the lug. as in Fig. 6, or there may be a pin fastened upon the front side of the lug, either flat or round, and an eye in the bail, as in Fig. 7.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The construction and combination of a lug and bail in such a manner, by grooves or pins, that the weight of the boiler when in clined in pouring will fasten the two together, substantiallyas set forth.
2. The combination of the arm A, Fig. 3; of the cover with the lug and bail, in the manner substantially as set forth.
