Definitions

  • Identification cards commonly used at the present time consist of limited types of construction, usually a laminated card, that is, identifying data mounted on cardboard, or paper, with the card thus formed encased in plastic by laminating several pieces of transparent sheets with the card therebetween. A card so made is easily tapered with, and the laminates readily disengaged by soaking same in a suitable solvent.

B29d 3/00 U.S. CI. 18-36 1 Claim ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An identification card that is tamper proof, being a card having identifying data bonded in plastic, and the means for producing same.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Identification cards commonly used at the present time consist of limited types of construction, usually a laminated card, that is, identifying data mounted on cardboard, or paper, with the card thus formed encased in plastic by laminating several pieces of transparent sheets with the card therebetween. A card so made is easily tapered with, and the laminates readily disengaged by soaking same in a suitable solvent.
SUMMARY OF II-IE INVENTION An identification card consisting of a sheet of paper or the like having the necessary data, including a photograph, encapsulated in transparent plastic by bonding same, and the device necessary to produce this article consisting of a cavity mold having the holders extending into the cavity for positioning the card in the center thereof and maintaining said card in this position as fluid plastic is injected into said mold, and set.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1 is an exploded view of the cavity mold employed.

FIG. 3 is a top view of the completed card.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT A suitable sheet, such as a cardboard or paper strip, or any other suitable material, such as metal or a very thin plastic, is prepared with the desired identifying data, including a photograph 2 of the person to be identified, and the name and address, and other information, such as a number, and the card thus formed is placed on the holders 3, 3, which are thin, rigid members, substantially L-shaped, and extending into the cavity of the mold, which will hold the card centered in the cavity, with passage space around the entire margins of the card for liquid plastic to pass into the lower portion of the mold and encapsulate the card.
The cap portion 5 of the mold is then mounted on the base portion 4, the pegs 6, 6 seating in the sockets 7, 7, to align the upper and lower portions of the mold.
Liquid plastic is then injected into the cavity through the conduit 8, filling the cavity and encapsulating the data sheet, and the plastic is permitted to set, or may be set by heat, or the like. When set, the cap is removed from the base portion of the mold, and the encapsulated card lifted out of the cavity, with the data sheet bonded into a homogenous mass with the plastic, and the card thus sealed against tampering.
While the foregoing are considered preferred embodiment of the invention, it is by way of illustration only, the broad principle of the invention being defined by the appended claim.
What I claim is:
1. An identification card forming device having means for encapsulating card consisting of an injection cavity mold, with substantially L-shaped card holders mounted in the inside wall of the cavity of said mold, said card holders centering said sheet in the cavity in position to become encapsulated with liquid plastic injected into said cavity.
