E. PORRERA;
GLASS DISH OIL-PLATE. No. 357.689. v Patented Feb. 15, 188'].
ATTORNEY N. PETERS. Pholo-Lilhonmphur. Washin ton, 0.1:.
UNITED STATES PATENT WEErc,
ENRIQUE PORBERA, OF BARCELONA, SPAIN.-
GLASS DISH OR PLATE.
' SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No, 357,689, dated February 15, 1887.
Application filed October 16, 1886. Serial No. 216,461. (No model.) Patented in Spain July 12, 1886, No. 8,697.
To (ZZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ENRIQUE PoERERA,a citizen of the Kingdom of Spain, residing at Barcelona, in the Province of Catalonia and Kingdom of Spain, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Glass Dishes 0r Plates, (for which I have obtained a patent in Spain, No. 8,697, bearing date July 12, 1886,) of which the following is a specification.
My invention has for its object to provid a dish or plate adapted to be decorated or ornamented on short notice with any design, symbol, apothegm, advertisement, name, or picture; and for that purpose it consists of a U dish or plate made of transparent material, as
glass or crystal, and provided with a detachable foot or base, that may be made of glass, porcelain, rubber, metal, or of any suitable material, whether transparent or opaque, and upon which may be painted the desired wording or design, or between which and the dish or plate may be interposed the design printed or painted upon a sheet of paper or other suitable material, in a manner to be hermetically inclosed and to be seen through the transparent bottom of such dish or plate, all as will be more fully hereinafter described and specifically claimed.
The accompanying drawing represents a vertical section through the center of my device, in which A denotes the dish or plate proper, that may be of any usual or fancy pattern, and which to its bottom has an annular flange, a, exteriorly screw-threaded to engage the internal screw-thread of the annular flange b of the disk-shaped foot or base B.
The dish or plate Ais made of glass or crystal, to be transparent, while the base B may be made of any suitable material, transparency not being required.
Instead of the screw-thread connection a b, any other convenient connection may be providedas, for example, spring-clasps secured to either part and engaging with notches in the other part; or all-hermetic frictional joint may be formed by a suitable packing-ring, as a rubber band stretched over flange a and pressed into flange b.
The up per face of the detach able base B may be decorated by painting or enameling, as in ordinary plates or dishes; or also a drawing,
picture, or advertisement printed upon a sheet of paper or other material, D, may be inserted between dish or plate A and base B, to be seen through the dish or plate, which latter again may be decorated with opaque painting or enameling at places where it does not affect the desired decoration, advertisement, 850., of the bottom.
What I claim is- As an article of manufacture, a dish or plate made of transparent material and a base made of any suitable material, both detachably connected with the base, adapted to be printed, painted, or decorated on its top, or for inserting between such plate and base a picture, print, or design, as and for the purpose set forth.
ENRIQUE PORRERA.
