Abstract
This invention relates to a document verifying machine and, in examples, relates specifically to such a machine adapted for use with a banking depository machine, wherein tokens such as coins of various denominations and documents, such as paper currency of various denominations, may be inserted into the banking machine in any order desired. These are tested for their genuineness. In the case of currency, the sensings of currencies of various denominations are sensed in one area, and the monetary values of the currencies deposited in the machine are incrementally shown on an indicator and are set up on printing wheels. If it is desired that the currencies be returned to the operator, a switch is operated, as a result of which the indicator and the printing wheels are automatically restored to zero, and an escrow device in the machine is actuated to refund the deposit of currency. If it be desired that the currencies are to be accepted by the machine, then another switch is operated. As a result the escrow device transfers the deposited currency to a deposit receptacle. Following this, duplicate receipt tickets are preferably imprinted with the amount accepted by the machine and are issued to the depositor, and the indicator and printing wheels are zeroized. Should the machine refuse to accept currency or other documents deposited therein by reason of failure to be genuine, or otherwise, the currencies are not deposited in the escrow device but are refunded directly, and no change occurs in the indicator or printing wheels.

examples, relates specifically to such a machine adapted for use with a banking depository machine, wherein tokens such as coins of various denominations and documents, such as paper currency of various denominations, may be inserted into the banking machine in any order desired. These are tested for their genuineness.
1n the case of currency, the sensings of currencies of various denominations are sensed in one area, and the monetary values of the currencies deposited in the machine are incrementally shown on an indicator and are set up on printing wheels.

Claims (14)
1. An apparatus including therein an overall transport mechanism, said transport mechanism having means incorporated therewith to identify magnetizable ink and including a first transport means; further transport means on the device wherein said further transport means are in the path of the movement of any document, said further means having additional means to magnetize said document; subsequent means to sense the overall light transmissive characteristics of the document; additional means comprising said incorporated means to sense the overall magnetic characteristics of the document and including means to scan the said overall magnetic characteristics of the said document to identify the magnetizable ink; additional means to sense the combination of the above, whereby these means, in combination, produce signals to reject items not imprinted with the properly magnetized and light characteristic combination; and additional means responsive to said signals to reject any improper document having improper magnetic or light transmissive characteristics; and a reject mechanism actuatable by said last means, said reject mechanism operating to reject any improper document.
2. A machine as set forth in claim 1 and including means to test the resistive light transmission character of the document.
3. A machine as set forth in claim 2 in which the document is paper currency and in which the apparatus has means whereby the genuineness of the currency and its denomination is also determined.
4. A machine as set forth in claim 1 and including a specific area light transmission test, and in which the overall light transmission test and the specific area light transmission tests are utilized to determine the genuineness and denominatioN of the currency or the like; the said machine including at least two test devices operative on the currency or the like said test devices being spaced from each other, the signals from each of which, when added together, are of a magnitude to enable the acceptance of the currency of the like to occur.
5. A machine as set forth in claim 4 in which at least two of the test devices comprise a lamp and a photocell on opposite sides of the document or other device under test.
6. A machine for verifying the genuineness of documents, including currency or its like, wherein there is positioned a document entry station and wherein there are positioned a plurality of detecting stations, said detecting stations being positioned a spatial distance from said entrance station and having means provided therewith to perform a multiplicity of test on the said documents so as to determine the characteristic thereof; a further means comprising a transport mechanism for carrying any nongenuine document from said entrance station to said station means and to carry any genuine document from said entrance station to said station means, wherein said station means performs preselected tests on said documents; further means spaced beyond said station means in the path of said transport mechanism and including means to release the said documents from the said transport mechanism when the said documents are transported thereto by the said transport mechanism; and means spaced beyond said release means to detect the presence or absence of documents on said transport mechanism after the said documents on the said transport mechanism have passed the said release means.
